Discussion of 5.04 "Hell Bound" - Airdate 10/22/03

LOVED THIS 1!!! I loved the scene w/ angel and spike sitting on the couch and the poems and barry manilow. Only bad thing is the possibility of Spred/Frike(w/e). I was a lil depressed by that but overall it was great. Can't wait until spike's corporeal(if it ever happens.)

OMG SPIKE NAKED!!!!!!!!! Not exactly everything I was hoping to see but... lol I really thought this eppy was good. I liked the fact that they had spike fighting and that he saved fred insead of becoming flesh and blood. When pictures come out someone has got to post them here!!!

I loved this ep! Very creepy!

I agree that the nudity in this episode was about as unecessary as the parental advisory that came with it! That wasn't nudity! more of Spike has been seen on Buffy, plenty of times! Hell, when Angel fell out of hell, you saw more of a butt shot then you did here! Don't know why they made such a great big fuss!

Anyways, I think the best scene in this episode was the scene where Spike and Angel were talking...I couldn't help but think that all those Spike/Angel shippers out there were gonna be eating that convo up with a spoon! And best of all, Spike called Angel LIAM. i don't know why, but I got really psyched when I heard that-I kinda think it's a tad silly that Angel has another name and noone ever uses it-yet we hear William all the time.

Spike makes fun of Gunn's weenie! LOL

I didn't mind the whole Fred/Spike thing...I thought I would, but I didn't..I'd rather have Fred/Angel, but you can't ask for too much 😉

WE NEED MORE WES....and Lorne needs to die or get a storyline!

There, my piece has been said! 😀

I also loved the reference to Buffy.....I am still stuck in the past.

That was kinda boring. There was some nice direction, some scary jump moments and some good creepy stuff, but overall it just fell flat. There was no real sense of danger that Spike might actually be sucked into Hell, and Pavayne was pretty lame. Plus, we really didn't need more naked Spike. Teasing us with Fred in the shower is just EVIL. I can't even remember much about the episode, and I just finished watching it 10 minutes ago. Uh...I missed Lorne. Making Spike choose between flesh and Fred was an unbelievably weak plot move - shockingly predictable for what used to be such an unpredictable, innovative show. I wish I had more good stuff to say. There were a few funny lines. The Angel/Spike scene was amusing. Um...Eve is pretty hot. That was nice. ::thumb::

Wait.. What was the whole Liam thing? I didn't really understand that reference at all. I think that the plot was a little weak but i hope it will get better.

Wait . . . What was that whole Liam thing? I didn't really understand that reference at all.

Angel's human name is Liam, but no one ever has called him that, yet Spike has been referred to by his human name, William, a couple of times.

I loved this episode! It wasn't as scary as I thought it would be, but it was great nonetheless. 😀

I was kinda hoping the 'partial nudity' thing was for Fred, rather than Spike. I mean ... how can you not enjoy Amy in a fog infested shower? Of course, I was dreading the idea of Spike actually getting in there with her ... yuck. But that's just the way my mind works. 😛

But all-in-all, it was an awesome ep! Can't wait til next week. 🙂

Great episode! So far I'm really impressed with the standard of writing this season, let's hope they keep it up. Loved the Angel/Spike interaction. Also good to hear the Shanshu prophecy get a mention.

And to sum up, three words: Fred in shower!

Great episode! The interaction between Spike and Angel is classic. The bickering can be annoying at first, but it is so hilarious! Angel gets so irritated. Spike is his ultimate pet peeve. ::rolf::

I liked seeing Fred in the shower. I've come to really like her a lot more this season than I have in the past. ::love::

Also, what exactly is the white room? Is it a place that can join dimensions and all? Plus, what was that liquid? It's dark power...but, ahh I dunno! Another W&H mystery!

Next week's episode looks funny. It's a Halloween version of an office Xmas party. I'm thinking...alcohol, music, dancing...and apparently, hooking up. ::evil2::

omg!! I just watched this episode and it was soo good!! I loved all the Fred/Spike scenes, and spike sacrificing having a real body again to save Fred that was sweet. I'm soo mad that he's still a ghost though!!
the scene with Spike and Angel was soo funny. I liked the parts where they would play the dramatic music and then it would be something funny, or not at all dramatic

Are u saying u like Spred! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!

Man I really can't stand these Spuffy/Bangel/Spred combo names. Very annoying. Sorry. Anyways, I was thinking about the characters that werent getting that much air time. I actually like it. Yes, I love the characters...but it would really get old having every single one of them in every single episode, ya know. If Wes and Lorne don't have much to add to the plot of the episode, why throw them in. I think it's good thinking on Joss's part to not use up everyones airtime. Looks like next weeks ep will have lots of Lorne...that's what got me thinking about it. I think Joss is smart in using his resources sparingly. I would rather see the characters not appear in all episodes, rather then cramming everyone into the same plot. Now that they are running an evil law firm, some of them just have other things to do, ya know. Spike will probably get less airtime now that they took the first couple episodes to get him settled into the show.

Ninjalizer-normally, I would agree with you, but there hasn'y been one episode in the season so far where Wes and Lorne had an importnant role-I think that's what everyone means.

Thank you Faithy. I thought I was the only one that saw that. What is the deal with Angel? Is he that jealous because he isnt the only vamp on the block with a soul? I dont like the way the writers are taking him so far, seems like he is going to be the one corrupted by the power of Wolfram and Hart.

Angel lost his son and would-be-girlfriend only a few weeks earlier, and Spike (whom he has always hated whether he's Angel or Angelus) has come in a turned everything up-side-down. If I were Angel, I'd be acting bitter too. Remember Buffy in "When She was Bad?" It took her months to get over her issues. It would be unrealistic (IMO) to have Angel all-smiles right now.

Lmao! Naked spike pics, don't say that to loud you might get mobbed..
And Slayers destiny, glad I am glad I wasn't alone in seeing that..
I understand Angel is having issues, it is to be expected, but it is his moral view that bends so quickly when Spike is involved that bugs me. (and that leads to what Slayers Destiny said about Angel being corrupted, does the W&H office remind anyone else of the hellmouth?) Angel is suppose to be a Champion, and now he is acting petty. It just looks bad. Plus Spike is always getting a bad rap, Angel was much worse when he was bad, and between Giles, Wood, and now Angel, no one seems to care that he has a soul. It seems kinda hypocritical that Angel gets forgiven, but Spike gets relentlessly punished for it. I also think that because Angel's feelings toward spike are so exaggerated that it will somehow tie into the story arc of the season in more than the obvious way. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I liked the episode. I don't know if it's my favorite of the season because I really liked the first two as well. It was creepy and intense with a little humor as well(I loved the line about Spike popping in and making fun of Gunn's anatomy andalso Gunn's spontaneous outburst of lawyer-speak.) I said last week that I'm sick of Spike being a ghost...I'm still sick of it and none too happy that he's not restored to corporeal form, though I liked the fact that he chose to save Fred instead of getting fixed. I didn't care about Spike's nudity because I really have no interest in seeing men naked. I would, however, like to see more of Fred in the shower...or maybe Harmony in the shower...or perhaps Fred and Harmony in the shower...but I digress. Anyway, it was good but I agree with a couple of others that it wasn't quite as good as I had hoped. Next week looks pretty cool.

On the subject of characters not getting enough screen time or playing an important role I think we'll all just have to get used to it. We all have people we want to see play a prominent role every week(I want to see a lot of Spike and Harmony and I'm interested to see what they're going to do with Eve; and then there's also Angel and Wesley and Fred, etc) but there are just too many characters and not enough time in a one hour episode to satisfy all of us.

The thing that bother's me about Angel's attitude towards Spike is that it seems like he's on a moral superiority trip and he doesn't necessarily have a right to be. Without their souls Angel was just as evil as Spike, if not more, and Spike now has a soul and "saved the world" on his resume as well. I can understand them not being best pals but Angel is really annoying me at the moment. Of course, Angel doesn't have to be perfect to be a Champion and God knows Buffy had her faults too. I expect that we'll see Angel and Spike's relationship improve as the season goes along.
