Discussion of 8.06 "No Future for You Part 1" - Released 08/06/07 (Dark Horse)

Roden is not her boyfriend. from what it appears, he's her tutor, hired by her father.

yes, there maybe a slight connection, if you want to jump to that. but we still don't know if Buffy's dream had anything to do with Lady S. how do we know that it's Buffy the dream-image is talking about? maybe 'the Queen is dead' refers to Faith. and no where does Lady S. say that she wants to kill Buffy ir Faith...in fact, she seemed quite shocked to have killed a Slayer at all.

until otherwise proven, i refuse to belive that Brian K. Vaughn would 'borrow' a plot from a book that wasn't very well received in the first place.

Assume Roden is the sorcerer, i said he was her friend, not boyfriend

and if she is so shocked at killing a slayer, why is it made out to seem like this isn't the first slayer she has done this to?

where does it say that this isn't the first time she's killed a Slayer? it says that this isn't the first time she's taken a human life, but it does indicate this this was the first time she's killed another Slayer, someone like her. that's why i said she seemed shocked...and she does seem shocked at first. look at her body language, and what she's saying:

"Oh, God. I...I thought you said this one would be as strong as me. I thought she was another Slayer!"

Ditto with the agreeing!

It does! She said something like: "you said this one would be stronger, a slayer like me", that says she's never fought a slayer before.

We don't know nearly enough to say how close the story is to the book.

i whole heartedly agree.
The top one does, yes

She looks significantly older (middle aged) and less attractive in that one than the Faith I remember. In many other pics she looks fine though, but the inconsistency was one of the problems.

I don't read the books. I didn't know there were similarities between this arc, and that book. From what Clem Rocks says it would appear there are. Question - does it matter?

Joss says he doesn't read the books. It wouldn't surprise if Vaughan doesn't either. So they create this little sub-plot, and it turns out it has similarities to the plot of one of the books. So what? Good on the book for getting one right is what I say.

This kind of thing is not unknown. I read a post on a message board recently where this guy was talking about something that happened in Season 8. He was right pleased with himself, because he wrote a fanfic one time where that happened. Good for him I say. He got one right.

The Queen of the Slayers thing is no different than when Normal Again followed the Charmed episode Brain Drain. They're similar stories. In that case when you look at the time line one could not have copied the other, yet the similarities are unmistakable.

This kind of thing happens. It's nothing more than an interesting occurrence.

On the what exactly Lady G said regarding slaying the slayer thing...here ya go.

BTW. Doesn't it look like that slayer was dressed as housekeeping staff. This would suggest she was undercover. And speaking of undercover, Lady G can sense when other slayers are around. What will happen when she meets Eliza Doolittle Faith? Will she zero in on Faith as a slayer right away?

LMFAO! Eliza Dootlittle Faith!!

I assumed she was just using her slayer senses... like Faith in This Years Girl when Willow goes to hit her with the bag
So Robin Wood has a troop of newbie slayers. So that makes who - Andrew, robin, Giles and Buffy each with a squad - who's got the others? And Faith didn't get one? (that we know of) which is a bit strange considering that she was very good with the gals in season seven - though is looks like she gets given all the really crappy jobs to do.
I don't think she wants the responsibility, even at this point. She was getting fairly good with command, but I think she has zero desire for that. But yeah, she'll take on a crappy solo mission, out of guilt, a sense of...penance or something...

What was up with a vamp kid calling Faith a whore and making her stab Giles?
Well, the lighting totally changes. To me, it seemed like a flashback to some a-hole ex-boyfriend or even a sib who abused her. Do we know if she has any sibs? I forget, if I ever knew. Or was it supposed to be a vamp? Maybe so. She's got issues with touching at any rate.

Yeah diffenatly a flashback, but it looks like one of the kid vamps she was fighting earlier in the comic, why would a kid vamp calling her a whore have effected her?

because it vocalises her worst personal fear - that she IS nothing more than a whore. sure, she's full of bravado when she talks of getting 'bouncy' with a guy then wanting nothing more to do with him, when she says she's 'banged enough bankers' to know how to fit in to high society and even though she chooses this, that she is the one in control she is still terrified that at the end of the day she is just a whore and that that's all anybody will ever think of her as.

^ awesomely put. this issue really brought back me ending up just really feeling sorry for her. while she's totally a complete bad ass at the end of the day she's so dark and disturbed even after coming out of redemption.

I liked it, it has so many unanswered q's already! Oh and seeing the Dr and Rose never thought it was till someone pionted out!

Shows how much i wasn't expecting!

i liked #6 much more than #5. not that i didnt like #5 or anything, its just, well, i want to read about the scoobies and friends.

i give it 5 out of 5 stars! cant wait for the next one!

okay, so i think we have it settled; Faith is not bi.

I'd say she is, she's just picky. Some frou frou English aristocrat isn't her type I'd imagine.

I loved the Doctor Who appearance too. And the whole issue and that.

Only just caught up with all the comics, whens the next due? Im getting confused because I keep seeing covers and stuff on Whedonesque.

Bite the bullet. Check out the 8.07 spoiler thread. You'll find something interesting
I got this issue yesterday. It was a lot better than 5 in my opinion. Although I was very upset that I got the crappy ass variant cover instead of the Jo Chen one.

bummer!!
dont worry visionguy, your local comic store should have all the covers. if they dont, let me know and ill get you one from my store. peace.

I really loved this issue ... I loved seeing Faith again, and the writing for Giles was so PERFECT -- It made me feel like I was watching an episode. I don't know how I feel about this whole Lady G thing. It seems very vague, and kind of .. I don't know ... Just not very realistic. What I love about Buffy is that it mixes reality with this fantasy world, but the fantasy world is always based in OUR world, the real world. With the comics, it seems like its getting more into the fantasy side of things, and no one's really asking, "Could that really happen?" ... I loved the fairy reference issue 5, but I could never see that happening in the tv show. And I feel the same way about Lady G. She seems to ... I'm not sure how to put it. A little fake, perhaps? I think that once they elaborate on her character more I'll like the arc more.

I also was quite upset about how seperate Faith is from the community. Everyone else seems to have a job and a group for support. Faith just gets called on to do the messy bits, and is back to her loner killer life. I don't think thats fair. By the end of Season Seven, I felt like she was an integral part of the Scoobies, and that they'd gotten over that Faith=killer thing. But it seems like all of that was forgotten, and she's back to her lonely life in her empty apartment being called on for wetworks. I expected a little bit more love/luck to be thrown Faith's way.

I cannot WAIT for the next issue. I can't wait to find out what happens!
Honestly, the comic book has made me so happy. I was sort of apprehensive when I found out about Season 8 in comic book form, but now that is out, and I'm reading it ... I'm so pleased with it.

Got mine today 🙂 Woot. Although I got this one from amazon, not tfaw.. those ones are still on the way. I love this issue, #2 is still my fav so far for laughs though.
Faith is rivaling Willow as my fav character atm, she's great, so much depth. But yeah, I was dissapointed that she's not part of the group.. or any group. Then again, when people find themselves isolated it's generally just as much their own fault as anyone else's.
She doesn't seem phased when Giles points out that she has to kill a human again, is this because she wants out of the country really bad? I would have thought she would refuse to begin with.
I looked up 'augur' in dictionary.com and it means:
one of a group of ancient Roman officials charged with observing and interpreting omens for guidance in public affairs.
2. soothsayer; prophet.
Just in case anyone was wondering?... nope just me with the limited vocabulary then 😛

And yeah the monster in Buffy's dream does look like a Chimera.. does anyone know what they are involved in with Greek mythology? And why is it saying 'long live the queen' when Buffy says it says 'the queen is dead'

Jeez too much to comment on 😛 I'm not sure if they are building up Xander/Buffy romance or not.. it's all so vague, and full of subtext. But I love that about Buffy, keeps me thinking.

Edit:

I also had a theory I forgot to post about, and I can't edit my post now so sorry for double-post.
GiGi (calling her that cause easier) wants "what's mine".. the first thing I thought of was Buffy's sythe and to be Buffy... but mostly her sythe. Just because when Buffy got it, there was a lot of talk about it being hers.. and hers alone. Plus it has a lot of power. Then again I could be way off, maybe GiGi has no interest in that sort of thing.. more concerned with status, money and having fun.
Also, is she having the same dreams as Buffy..?

Great Issue, my thoughts:

- This is Faith to a perfection. Every word written I can hear her saying easily and I love it.
- I disagree with what most people think about the gang abandoning her. The way she's acting and what she's saying tend to make me think that she chose this. Faith still isn't a team player and I honestly don't think she ever will be. She's still fighting her inner-demons and has alot of shit to work out in her life.
- What's up with Gile's "Yellow Submarine" sweater? Very un-Gileish type of clothing.
-What's up with this uber-slayer? How'd she get so powerful? And why did she seem genuinely freaked out when she realized she killed that slayer?
- Loved the classic rock references; AC/DC and Pink Floyd
- We never did find out why Giles came to Faith when even he admitted there were girls better suited for this. I'd like to know the real reason.
- Think Faith was really listening when Giles was explaining that they weren't so different? Looked like Faith might have taken the message to heart.
- Hahaha, Xander's alone training is one of the funniest things so far. And Buffy interupting was awesome, she looked so cute. Anyone else notice Xander was wearing a "Sunnydale Swim Team" shirt? Brings back memories. Also Xander catching himself admitting that he still checks out Buffy...alot probably was hilarious.
- Giles checking out Faith....priceless.

This issue rocked, can't wait for the next one.

I don't think she's an uber slayer... I just thought she sensed where the girl was, because slayers can do that.. they don't live on the same plane as regular people. I assumed she didn't realize a slap with full slayer strength could snap the neck of another slayer.
But then again it would be interesting if the Twilight were magically making her stronger. I'm of the opinion that's she's being played.
