As for the Buffy/Satsu relationship, I can see where Buffy would be intrigued, even attracted to her given the circumstances of Season 8. Buffy is living a celibate life and not liking it a bit, but the only alternative is an affair with Xander, which is too much like incest. Along comes someone who is attractive, affectionate, quite obviously available, and with whom she shares some major interests (primarily slaying), plus is a powerful enough fighter that Buffy doesn't have to protect her. Oh, wait a minute...doesn't have to protect...HER? Well, this is something new, intriguing, and it even feels good. We'll work it out... And that's about where they are now: to the working it out stage. Maybe they will get together, maybe they won't. We'll just have to wait and see. One thing's almost certain, though. If they both survive, there's gonna be more to come in the Buffy/Satsu relationship.



Looks like we're both hoping for some "Willow intervention" for Renee here. (If Amie can do it with Warren, Willow surely could do the same with Renee) Like you, I'm kinda tired of Joss' obsession with killing off his characters.

I guess we'll just have to wait till next month for the whole thing to resolve itself.

I just got this issue from TFAW and LOVED IT! Plus, TFAW gave me a free Superman comic with it for Free Comicbook Day, so that was cool. But, back on topic:

I loved this issue. It was one of the best yet, for sure (although Anywhere But Here is still probably my favorite). A few things:

- I, too, loved Dracula in this issue. I love how he's gone from "mysterious, charming, evil guy" to "petty vampire that hangs around and makes inappropriate comments." Perhaps he'll stick around and become the new Cordelia/Anya? I hope so, to be honest. They need a character like that.

- I agree that the whole Batsu thing is getting a bit tired, but I do love their exchanges and all of the conversations about it. I loved Buffy saying how she thought it was sexy when she called her ma'am, and I loved the conversation between Willow and Satsu in the last issue. But I'm guessing that, after Wolves at the Gate ends, Batsu will be a thing of the past. For now, it's entertaining.

- I officially love Giant Dawn. I thought her constant complaining was annoying at first, but now that she seems to be getting used to it, she's so much fun. I still can't figure out which one I like more..."Fee, fi, fo, f#$*ing fum" or "Hi...uh, I mean, roar?" Also, I don't think her strength is entirely proportionate to her size, but she's definitely a lot stronger than she was person-sized. I don't think regular Dawn could've punched a huge hole in a brick wall (even though her hand started bleeding after she did it), and she was able to step on Amy and knock her unconscious (and for all we know, Amy was super-durable.) And I'm assuming she's probably pretty heavy, so having her step on something is bound to do some damage. Even if that is a continuity error, I can safely assume that, proportionate strength aside, the vampires would be scared of a giant Godzilla-woman.

Also, do you think that maybe the vampires might have made Dawn a giant to distract the Scoobies? Just a thought, since I don't think Kenny did it.

- AH, RENEE! I really hope she's not dead, even though she probably is, since Joss is a sadistic fiend. Xander's already lost all of his love interests; Cordelia, Buffy, and Anya (even though Buffy wasn't technically a love interest, and she was resurrected later.) But there is a good chance that she could survive that. I don't think her Slayer powers were taken away before she was stabbed, so she can probably take more damage than most people. Plus, Willow's right there, so maybe she can heal her before she dies. If Renee does stay dead, do you think it might be their secret plan to get Bander started? That'd be cool, since I've always liked the idea of Buffy and Xander together.
 
Of course Willow can heal Renee, I think. She managed to heal herself from the lobotomization in the first arc... I mean, she's season8-Willow!!! She can do anything she wants, and I don't think Renee is dead yet, so Willow can do something if she acts fast, I guess.

ya, if she didnt lose that much blood yet which it looks like she probably did/will but when you get stabbed right through the middle of your chest, most likely you are dead before anyone can do anything.

Plus they would never think if doing that to Renee or any other person. Why would they make them live with that torment?
 
^ I agree. While having a soul probably wouldn't bother her (she wouldn't have had a chance to be a bad person), she would probably hate herself.
 
I always wondered what would happen if a slayer was turned into a vampire. Would they become like a super vampire? And I say this again these vampires have to be pretty damn powerful to reverse Willow's spell, because Willow is no light weight witch, Amy called her the "big all-powerful earth-mother witch goddess." So they have to be using more than just Dracula's abilities because even he cannot take on Willow. That vamp girl even though she caught her by surprise still was able to knock her through the roof and cause her nose to bleed, something we haven't seen happen to her in a while.

Which makes me wonder, shouldn't Willow be the one to take out Twillight? After all he can fly, she can fly, he seems to have super strength, she can give herself super strength, and who knows what else he can do.

The torment Spike and Angel have to endure is because of what they did while they were soulless vampires. It's not because they are still vampires.

Question, if Buffy lost her slayer powers along with a few slayers and then they managed to get the sycthe back, can Willow use the sycthe like she did in Chosen to make them slayers again?

Exactly. That's why I said having a soul wouldn't bother Renee. However, as a Slayer, how do you think she'd feel about being a vampire? Especially since, having a soul, she'd be ABLE to feel about it? If it were me, I'd hate myself.

Interesting reasoning, but I don't agree.
plus how she would have to change her lifestyle. No longer being able to go outside and feel the warmth of the sun, having to drink some kind of blood in order to survive, never being able to see her reflection again, and outliving everyone around her. She probaby would want to be straight up dead. Atleast then she could rest in peace.
 
man, all this talk about season 8 makes me want to crack open issue #1 and reread all of them again!

but back to this particular issue.

i love wolves at the gate. many things are transpiring. many events are being set up.

and come on, dawn?! being a giant!?!?! THERE ARE SO MANY POSSIBILITIES!
 
I liked this issue more then the previous, although this arc is turning into my least favourite. Usually we're given a lot to think about, but most things seem fairly straight forward.. although that could be because I read all the speculation online so I'm rarely surprised.
Loved how Dawn popped in, and Dracula's interaction with the scoobies is great.. he feels like Spike did in season four. But I'm still curious about the next issue.
 
Since I have no money I usually go to my local bookstore and read these. I have to say though that I enjoyed this one. I only recently started to read so I don't know much about the storylines but I do enjoy reading them. I like the whole relationship with Buffy and Satsu. It's very interesting to see what's going on. The only thing I'm wondering and maybe someone can clear this up for me...what happened to Kennedy?

Willow is keeping Kennedy away from Buffy's influence. She thinks it's dangerous. They appear to have an apartment somewhere. It's looking like Kennedy will make an appearance in the arc following Wolves at the Gate.
 
I feel like I'm just repeating what everyone else has said at this point, but...

1. Umm, Dawn and Drac were funny, as was Buffy's sexy line.
2. Xander and Renee were cute, then Renee died, which sucked muchly. I'm not upset about it, though, cuz I kinda saw it coming and, besides, I'm rooting for a Buffy/Xander endgame.
3. I kinda wished she would have let the vamp have a fair fight, not kept him all mystically bound when she killed him, but whatever. He did have that turning-into-air ability, so the basic theory of escalation applies. If your enemy gets armor, you get armor-piercing rounds, you know?
 
Okay, I'll make my review of Issue #14 short and sweet: WTF?!?!?!?

Alright, like everyone else has said, I should've expected someone to die, but wtf dude... wtf... I love Joss to death, but does he have to kill everyone? Especially people that we've just fallen in love with? Damn, Xander will probably pull a Giles (S2) and end up dying... (*Oh, god, banging my head against the wall. Knocking on wood. I really shouldn't've said that*). Anyway, my other feelings on this issue:
1. Dracula is probably one of my favorite characters in the Buffyverse now. "Is someone going to finish eating this?" 🙂
2. I thought the burning was great. Normally, I would've felt bad for the vamp, but this was extreme circumstances. He deserved it, and Buff was pissed.
3. I'm really into Batsu, even if it doesn't work out.
4. Xander and Renee's kiss was great. (Joss, you dumb bitca!)
5. Dawn was great. I think everyone knows what I'm thinking. "ROAR?"
6. Renee's death. See: first paragraph.

Overall, it was a pretty good issue. And it left me with a huge wide-open hole (like usual), waiting for the next issue. Why the hell does it take a friggin month?!? I'm still getting used to this. It's been a friggin year and 2 months and there has only been 14 issues...
 
You know, I don't mind that it takes a month. I really don't. It just prolongs the experience. It puts more time between me and that horrible day when the Buffy saga will come to close (again) and maybe not be brought back from the dead.

Hmm... Well, I guess it's just me then. I do feel the same way you do, but still, it's just so exciting! I can't wait for the next issue, you know?
 
So I got the issue today and I don´t think there´s anything to say that hasn´t already been said (and havn´t even read the whole thread yet). I guess there just should be "The Kinslayer agrees"-karma all over the place.

Personally I´m just disapointed that I didn´t see the death of Renee coming so soon. A happy realtionship in Buffy? No way. And althoug the "mam" thing was great the best thing obviously was Dawns arrival. That will keep me going for days.

And now the wait. I´m torn with this whole waiting thing. On one hand I want to keep reading right now, stupid wait. But at the same time it´s good to have something to look forward to. But I guess two weeks would be more to my liking, but I guess you can´t have everything. I just should be thankful there is a comic.

Don't give hope on Renee yet. I'm still hoping for Willow-esque intervention on that one!
