I haven't had a chance to read it yet but the woman who rec'd it to me said it is terrifying...and she doesn't scare easliy.

This entire season has been laced with the theme of this story, "Be careful what you wish for".

I mean the very first words of this season were "The thing about changing the world is, that once you do, it's all different".

Buffy wanted to be a normal girl, she didn't want to be the one and only. She got that wish but look at what it has cost.

It's a really great story. I wouldn't call it terrifying, though. Especially in view of what passes for entertainment in the horror and terror genres in the movies. It's downright tame. You might notice a similarity to a Season 5 episode, though.
Did anyone else LOVE the Kitty Pride reference? Joss always said that he based Buffy on Kitty Pride and I loved that they managed to get that in there, lol.
 
I knew that Joss' inspiration with Buffy was to create a empowered female icon who challenged the typical "role" the blond female had in most horror movies, but I never knew she was based on Kitty either. Can someone post a pic of this character for me?

To be honest, I think a lot of fans read too much into the Kitty/Buffy thing. They're really completely different characters.

I think Joss basically meant that Kitty inspired the reluctant-teenager-with-super-powers part of Buffy's persona.

But yeah, it was a nice little nod to the character in this issue. 'Phasing' would be a spanktastic superpower to have. 😉
 
I finally just today got my #32 issue in the mail (oh, the wonders of international shipping! 😉), thought I'd pop in and post my two cents.

Really enjoyed the dialogue in this issue. Maybe I just haven't read BtVS for a while, but it seemed to me that in this issue in particular everyone's dialogue was spot on. I could almost hear the original actors coming through while I was reading; which almost never happens with comic books! I'm a little surprised by Dawn's reaction to Buffy's powers, I got the vibe that maybe that was because Xander was paying so much attention to her (or maybe it is genuine concern for her sister!).

I really did enjoy watching Buffy run around like a speeding bullet, flying all over the UK. Even though she's getting her powers from dead slayers (that's a teeney bit morbid!), I like having a new "fun" element to the series. I'm curious to see if any more powers emerge for her, or if this is it. I guess I'll have to wait 'til next month to see 😉
 
Coming very late to the discussion as well. This one actually brought me to tears twice, first with the reveal of the field of dead slayers and the line, "Don't tell Buffy we failed," and again when we learned that Buffy's powers were coming from the dead slayers. I loved Brian Meltzer's voice. I LOL'd more times than I can count with the opening sequence between Xander and Buffy, even though I probably missed half the references. Again, the comics bring these characters to life for me as much as the TV show.

But I really don't believe that they don't realize Giles, Faith & Andrew are missing. I mean, really?

I'm also surprised that Willow didn't jump on the "Buffy you don't know what you're doing" bandwagon with Dawn.

And Willow sure is playing fast & loose with her powers now, huh?

I liked the bit about Faith needing Willow the most, though. And that Buffy gets the power from the dead slayers is awesome.
 
Xander and Buffy trying out her new superpowers is cute. But it seems like her powers should only be enhanced ones of slayers. Running fast, super-strength, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound - these track with slayer powers. But flying? Telescopic vision? Those don't make sense, since no slayer had any version of those abilities before.

I appreciate the explanations of all the geekverse allusions that people gave in this comment thread! It explained the 'phasing' comments, though I also thought that was a reference to ghost Spike, and thus foreshadowing.
