Do people with younger sisters like Dawn more?

But you're Buffy at the beginning of 'No Place Like Home'. Think of Buffy at the end of it.
Dawn is the greatest, you can't help but love her

Buffy loves her at the end because she's HER sister. My sister is just like Dawn, annoying, whiny, always thinking she can do thing she can't, always thinking she's older... Everything Dawn is, my sister is... But she's also something else, she's MY sister. I love her to PIECES and I wouldn't let anything happen to her. I would give my life to save hers. Dawn is everything I hate about my sister without the being my sister thing.... so I despise her.

I am so glad my younger sisters are not like Dawn! Yes she is whiny and a brat, that didnt bug me but the thing that did was how selfish she was...nothing was ever good enough for her. Buffy died for her so she could live and she still thought Buffy didn't love her enough. I felt like through out the series Dawn's character never changed...she remained annoyingly selfish.

Word to that. My younger sister is like Dawn but yeah. Word to that.

This is my theory. Dawn attracts a lot of hate from fandom for apparently being whiny, annoying and brattish, but I love her despite that. I think that people who have younger sisters like Dawn more, because our own little sisters are annoying, whiny and brattish, but we love them anyway. She's a very realistic depiction of a little sister, and I think that people with little sisters can relate to her because of that.

So, tell me, do you support or contradict my theory?

Sorry, but Dawn was such an accurate portrayal of my younger sis that I hated her with the same force I hated my younger sis. Serious. Theory proven false in my case. :chainsaw:

And I still hate the both of them now. Sorry.

I never thought of that before; my sister Tara is two years younger than me. When we were younger she was like Dawn; even worse at times. I guess the thing is people never got to see Dawn in her "My sister's so cool she's a Slayer" phase. From her first appearance it showed Dawn at the point where she resented her sister somewhat for always overshadowing her. I would say that theory is a good indicator of Dawn's popularity; that and how much you like Michelle as an actress.

Harriet the Spy for the win!

I HATED Harriet the Spy with a firey passion.
I am the older sister and my sister is the youngest. And the answer is no. Might be because of the big age gap that my sister and I have. About 5 year age gap. But my younger sister always ANNOYED me a lot.

I'm the younger sister here (my brother is 4 years older than me), and I can go either way with Dawn. I wasn't that fond of her in season 5 (oh my GOD with the whining and screaming and tantrums), but on the other hand in Real Me when she's making her diary entries, I totally related to them, cuz I'm sure I wrote my little diaries and journals that way too when I was 14. It was kind of cute. I also related to her liking Xander and Spike because they were older, and cool, and therefore hot. I liked her a bit more in season 6, but not by a lot. I think I related most to her grief for Buffy (the scene where she goes to lay down with the BuffyBot is TEARJERKING, every time).

Season 7 however, I loved her. She had matured, she was witty, she'd fallen into the role of Watcher Jr. beautifully. I think the only time I really wasn't fond of her was in Him when she tried to kill herself (I know, I know, SPELL with the crazy-making, but still, it was sort of typical of younger Dawn), and in Potential when she thought she was going to be a Slayer and she goes and hides in her room and then climbs out the window. That ENTIRE scene reminded me of Season 5 when she does the same thing and ends up at the hospital. It completely irritated me. LATER in the episode, I had no problem with her, but that one scene just didn't sit right with me. I suppose that was a lot of information to take in at once, and naturally, that would be fairly freaksome, but it seemed like she was being the overdramatic teenager again.

I have a younger sister, and I like Dawn ok... but I don't think the two are related as my sister is one year old. 🙂

Dawn does annoy me a lot, but as I tend to be the "younger sister" figure in my group of friends, I sort of get it. You want to be treated like an adult, but there are also times you like being the young, protected one and want to exploit it. I always wanted to be considered like one of the gang really truly, even though I'm two years younger than my best friends. But then if someone wants to pick on me, I'm happy that they have to go through the older ones first.

So I definitely get Dawn, even if she annoys me to tears sometimes. Especially Season 5.

I've said my piece regarding Dawn and younger sisters.

But, I think by Season 7, she's thoroughly likable, and by then, this would be a moot point. However, I would like to ask as well, does having a younger sister have any effect on this change of opinion?

Or is it just me?

I dont have a sister. But after seeing how Dawn acts I wouldnt want one lol. Especially not a little one. Haha. I dont like her in season 5 and 6. But I do like her in season 7. Shes seems a lot more mature and a lot less whiny.

I love Dawn, and I have a little sister. My sister doesn't like Dawn much though. Dawn was whiny at times, but overall I loved her and preferred her to my sister!

I have a little sister, and I still hate Dawn. I sympathize with other younger sisters on other television shows, but not Dawn since she was so annoying for two full seasons. I hate her for many other reasons though, one of the biggest being that Michelle Trachtenberg, from her performances on Buffy, is just an awful actress, and that didn't help change my opinion of her in season 7

I don't have any younger siblings (I'm kid sister to my big sister) and I actually didn't mind Dawn...though I liked the actress since her Pete and Pete days

I have a younger sister but we are only 20 moths apart, so that is a lot differnt then 4 years apart. I hated Dawn the first time I watched the series but when I re-watched it I liked her A LOT more and I do think it is because I have a younger sister. Buffy and Daawn have the same type of relationship that I have with my sister so I guess that could be why I like Dawn.

This past re=watch, I've found I like Dawn A LOT more and I do think it's because my sister has been getting on my nerves more than she used to so I cold tolerate Dawn's crap. Also, this re-watch one of my goals was to look at events/situations from other perspectives and character's eyes than I normally do. As a result, I ended up liking Xander a lot more, I like Dawn a lot more, Tillow officially became my OTP (part of me is still tying it with Spuffy because I don't want to admit that Tillow is above Spuffy... It is only because the love went both ways for the entire relationship).

So I do think having my little sister, it was easier to like Dawn this re-watch... although I still think it's probably easiest to like Dawn if you are a little sister yourself.
