I don't want kids, honestly. I do, however, accept that I'm in my early 20's, and might well change my mind when I'm older. I can't see myself wanting to have kids before I'm settled in a permanent home (rather than rented rooms in student houses 😛) with a decent paying job, for the financial stress alone. Babies are expensive.
Also, a child is your legal responsibility until they are 16. A lot of kids stay living with their parents, or reliant on them in some way, several years after this. That's around 18 years of your life when you have to raise a human being. Feed it, clothe it, get it to school, teach it morals and random stuff- you have chosen to have this child, you should do a damn good job. That child has to be the centre of your life, other stuff has to be fitted in around them. And I want to feel like I've lived my own life, done stuff that I want to do, had freedom to please myself, and live for me, not someone else. And I would probably resent the child if I had one before I felt satisfied with my own life. Not wishing to sound selfish, though I recognise it could be seen as such- I love my friends, I love my boyfriend, there's a lot I would do for them, but it's very different to have something that relies on you so completely, IMO.
I would quite like to be the crazy aunt to my kid brother's children when he has them, though 😛 I'm not really a fan of children, but I wish to mould them in my image! *insert evil laugh here*
