Okay, I'm saying this as a fan of the series, of BOTH series, not a Spuffy shipper, when I say that this has to be some sort of hoax. I could envision some kind of clone or construct like a more sophisticated Adam with enhanced powers, since the real Angel can't fly, or some sort of demon like Kenny (?) the Thricewise, who can project an illusionary image of itself, but having Angel be the Big Bad, since he's the Big Good at IDW, and therefore only on loan to Dark Horse just won't work.

ON THE OTHER HAND...remember the theory that Twilight might be Angelus, somehow separated from Angel so that they are now two independent beings? Now, that might just work here, especially if, as we have seen on his own show in Season 4, Angelus is a good enough actor to fool Buffy into believing that he's really Angel. That would work quite nicely, and would be something that Joss just might do.

(Then, of course, Spike can come swooping in, stake Angelus, save the day, and he and Buffy can live happily ever after)

Angelus isn't that good an actor. He could fool everyone else but he wouldn't fool Buffy (I'd wager my entire Bangelhood on that). She would know if it was Angelus and if it was then she would not be kissing him.

Angel or Angelus, he's slaughtered a large number of Buffy's friends and made her life hell. If Buffy's response to that is a lip-lock, then my question isn't "is that really Angel?" but "is that really Buffy?"

As for the dream explanation, I'd have to wonder why she'd be dreaming that Twilight is Angel, considering she discovers Twilight's identity in the prior issue.

You know guys at the time like this I really hate that I'm living in the middle of the nowhere where they don't sell Buffy or Angel comics. Yes, your thoughts are right, this is lame country. Our bookstores doesn't want to order comics, because they're not books. Once I was so desperate and I tried to bribe woman who is working there, telling her that money is NOT a problem, but she said no, and well my dad doesn't want to order from the internet because you have to leave your credit card number there - he thinks it's not safe. So I'm still Buffy season 8 free and I'm destined to recaps 🙁

It's got to be misdirection. and it cant be angelus,i dont see what angelus would gain out of destroying magic. Sure angelus just does things to be cruel but twilight seems awfully quasi religious and angelus despite his name kinda hates that. Remember when he meets the master in the flashback how hes annoyed at his religiousity. Twilight seems to be way too respectful to be angelus. And why would riley work for him? He hates him because of buffy. Warren would hate him because he might remind him of the people who are better than him. Sure they'd all want to hurt the slayer but they all probably would want to do it a way different way. Think about when he returns in angel season 4. Angelus isnt annoyed that the worlds being destroyed,its just that it wasnt done the way he'd do it which he views as the right way. It's his way or youre dead. Maybe he might be using it to fool buffy,hes a guy who plans ahead. but angelus is the sort of guy who just waltzes in and takes things,i mean hes the scourge man i dont think hed see a point in a fancy mask and lackys to achieve something he might could achieve easier. I for some reason dont think this plan gells with the character. I just dont buy it. I dont know who in the hell it is though. Joss said its a guy correct? I dont get why spike would do it either,Spikes a smart guy but hes not someone whos big with planning. Twilights obviously more about planning than spike. Xander could be it if something bad happens to willow or buffy in the future. Giles would be kind of non sensical. Joss is making my head explode but im excited for whatever comes. for all I know hes crazy,he might make it some lame insignifcant character from buffys past like parker. You laugh but joss would do it. Thats why im sometimes simatanously in love with his work and also scared to read/watch it.

Even I like Bangel more than Spuffy, these covers are too cheesy to be true. 😛

Whatever else happens, all ship orientation aside, I absolutely can not imagine that being the real Buffy and the real Angel unless it's a dream or a memory, or some sort of illusion.

I always assumed that he changed back to human form for one panel, then changed back. I have to ask Scott Allie about it in the next Q&A.

one solution would be to purchase a pre paid credit card or gift card.

personally i think there's more to this than the covers are letting on which sidebar: are the fantastic.

my top suspect for twilight has been spike...and the weird thing is before even seeing theories about angel and angelus being split into two separate beings i somehow see the same thing having happened to spike. it all ties into him losing his first body at the hellmouth...this is "Spike" the demon's soul...not William the Bloody's failed poet soul we've been dealing with and maybe somehow the same sort of applies to angel.

who knows...but i do know enough that DHC wouldn't run a storyline for four years only to have it get spoiled by the comics continuum.

I find it a great April Fool's Joke, but the guy at the end of Not Fade Away will never be Twilight. He would never condescend Buffy by calling her a whiner or a little girl. He would never kill people without remorse. That is, until he loses his soul, in which case Buffy would not kiss or even touch him (she's over that phase, if you remember season 6).

On the other hand, no character would surprise me more.
