Spoiler! Extremely spoilery: Buffy #34 Soliciations.

Wow. I'm freaking out. Totally. I come home early from class with a bad cold...to this? I don't know what to say...that Bangel kiss was like...an assault to my eyes. *shudders*

I agree with all that this must be a joke, a dream, a glamor, or an illusion. Or simply a fake, fan-made cover as AC said. I refuse to believe that Angel could be Twilight. Why in the hell would Buffy be kissing him if that were the case? She must be being controlled in some way. A spell. Or it's not her. Or it's a dream (which I agree, would be lame.)

Maybe....Angel comes back in this issue, and he's human, and there's some big Bangel reuinion...and Twilight is someone else. I guess we'll see.

Is this is true, this is a sad day for the Spuffies.

Angelus isn't that good an actor. He could fool everyone else but he wouldn't fool Buffy (I'd wager my entire Bangelhood on that). She would know if it was Angelus and if it was then she would not be kissing him.

Buffy might be able to differentiate Angelus from Angel more quickly than most people, but not immediately, I don't think. Remember, she hasn't really spent any significant amount of time with him by the time of Season 8 in at least three or four years. People do change, plus the shock of seeing him unexpectedly after that amount of time, might very well give Angelus enough time to do something really evil before Buffy caught on.

Remember, Miss K, love is blind, not analytical.

Besides which, we're spending all this time picking apart the implications of two pictures that most of us believe are a hoax, anyhow.

(On the other hand, that statement about risking your whole Bangle-hood on the outcome opens up some real possibilities...)

Maybe I'm wrong but I honestly believe in my bones that Buffy would instantly know the difference between Angel and Angelus ("I feel you...inside.") and even if she didn't know right away she would know as soon as he touched her and she sure as hell wouldn't be kissing him.

Then again, maybe she's just distracting him while someone else sneaks up behind him with a stake.
I would be shocked to my core if Twilight was Angel. Everything he's done up until this point has not been very Angely to be honest. These cannot be real.

I thought it would be anyone else in the whole 'verse Spike, Giles, Xander, Adam.... hell I'd almost think it was Tara dressed as a man before I'd think it was Angel.

This cannot be right, must be a hoax or some type of massive plot twist.

Oh goodie, would you please, English people, take a look at Jeanty's cover, under it's signature says "After [something]".

So what's up with the third heart shaped form not filled with any couple - who do you think are supposed to be there Oz&Bay, Faith&Giles, Andrew&Satsu (joking) ?

I've just looked at that. It says "After Infantino". During this arc Georges has been paying homage to some of the most famous comic covers ever drawn. Carmine Infantino, from what I can gather is a big deal in the comic world and drew for Marvel and DC.

Can anyone who is more familiar with comic lore tell us which comic he is paying homage to here?

Oh, wow...so these covers are real?

I can't believe we have to wait until April to know what's going on.

*freaks out more*

Well we don't know for definite but the fact that CBR has posted the solicitations and that Goerges has apparently paid homage to another comic great (and so maintaining the theme for the other covers of this arc) would indicate that they are real covers.

I just can't see everyone involved going to this much effort for a prank. Especially a prank that has caused so much upset in the fandom.

I just hope the pay off is worth it because if this is a joke or if Angel is actually evil and Twilight, I will feel beyond betrayed. And I know I am not alone in that.

I hope Angel is not Twilight too.
I don't really think that it's as much a particular comic or cover that Jeanty is referring to as much as Infantino's style of drawing

You can see the similarity here. It's not identical, but quite similar.

I've been thinking that too I've been searching the net for Infantino's covers and while I haven't found anything that matches exactly Georges cover is very representive of Infantino's style.

I swear it's a copy of an actual cover, and I think that it's from Amazing Spider-Man. I could be way off and I'm going by very vague memories. I am however a huge comic book geek. I think it was Spiderman in Angels pose (see the sort of weird leg thing) and Mary Jane as Buffy.

I think it's safe to say that Angel isn't evil. Either it's Angelus or Angel's playing at a bigger game, for the greater good (with Buffy, seemingly being complicit).

I don't think he is evileither but this whole thing is so weird you never know. I hope you're right.

If Angel isn't evil, then Angel isn't Twilight.

The things he's done... mass murder of Slayers in their beds, attempted mass murder of children, torture of Willow, ordering his own soldiers to pointless death, convincing all of humanity to submit itself as food for demons... and the arrogance with which he's done them... point to unambiguous evil.

And if Buffy is complicit with him... be he Angel or be he Angelus... then she's evil too, a betrayer of her friends, and needs to be destroyed along with him.

*edit: not enough posts

i can tell you that that isn't carmine infantino's artwork in the link.

and i'm surprised i can't place the homage... carmine infantino is a comic book artist most famous for his work during DC Comics silver age...particularly the Flash and some of DC's silver age science fiction heroes and comics (like Mystery in Space and Adam Strange). Infantino's cover to Showcase Comics #4 is whats considered his most famous cover:

* cover image edited out due to the fact i need more posts..

but i must confess i don't see any similarity between the two.

my best guess is that infantino did a few covers for some of DC's silver age romance comics...or possibly one from their "kids oriented" titles being published at the time.

To my knowledge Infantino never did any work for marvel Comics.(which after googling the guy up it shows he did later on in the 70's and 80's which totally surprises me...i'm s'posed to be an extremely knowledgeable comic book geek!)

That's true, unless...

As you know Andrew, I'm one of Armstrong's Aftermath's biggest critics, but the only way to justify an ambiguously good Buffy & Angel orchestrating this war would have to follow the principle of the Aftermath arc (lifted from other stories such as the film Minority Report).

It would have to be the two culling off those who would pose a threat to the Good Fight in the future, just like the Armstrong!PTB-Angels were doing.

I'm not saying that's what I believe, but I think that if Buffy + Angel set this all up, that's amongst the most reasonable explanations.
