Favourite LGBT character on a tv show?

True 🙂

I'm a Dean/Jo shipper when it comes to SPN. While there are big differences in both ships, I don't think Destiel is any less valid than that ship. I know I'm pretty much delusional, its not like Dean and Jo are ever gonna happen (and not just coz
poor Jo is dead! haha
) So rock on all you Destiel shippers! 😉 😀

I used to ship Dean/Jo. But then I met Castiel... And the bond between Dean and Joanna just became one of deep friendship to me. She idolized him, he saw her as a very nice girl and great hunter. But he never loved her really. (though that last kiss was beautiful)

I never saw Dean/Jo. To me they seemed like brother and sister more than relationship stuff. As far as straight ships for Dean, I ship Dean/Lisa... mainly because of Ben. I don't care what she says, Ben is Dean's son... biologically. That is my headcanon. And even if you don't believe that.. Ben is Dean's son. End of story.

I can't stand Lisa... she's such a.... anyways, I kinda like Ben because he's so like Dean (I agree, he's totally his biological son), but that's it.

As for Wincest, I agree that it is not appealing at all... To quote Dean when they found out about the Wincest fandom: "They do know we are brothers, right?"

Oh yeah, I agree that Dean never really loved Jo like that. But, I still like them together 🙂

I like Dean with just about anybody really. I like Dean/Anna, Dean/Castiel, whatever. I guess that just proves I'm not crazy invested in any ships on SPN, its not really a ship centered show, which I like. Dean is awesome and I want him to be happy no matter who it is with.

zobothehobo agrees: You don't think SPN is a ship centered show? It's kind of like the center of my fandom. Destiel, Sabriel, Samifer... my love for these ships is how I identify with the fandom

Oh, Sabriel? I never thought of that one! Interesting 🙂

Nope, sorry I don't. I get where you are coming from and all, but for me that's not a big reason why I love the show.

Ships aren't a big reason why I love most shows. The only ships that I'm passionate about are Spuffy, and probably Sookie/Eric from True Blood, to the point where I get pissy if things don't go the way I want them too. But even then, I don't mind so much. Me throwing a hissy fit isn't going to change anything. I'd prefer to sit back and enjoy the ride 🙂

Oh, Sabriel? I never thought of that one! Intersting 🙂
Sabriel is the BEST! Oh my god I ship it so hard! My favorite Sam ship. I don't think Sam is non-straight... but I adore Sabriel and Samifer. I like Sabriel more though. Gabriel is SO in love with Sam and it hurts so bad because Sam doesn't realize it at all. And it's like "OH COME ON SAM GABRIEL JUST WANTS TO KISS YOU!!!!'

I get that. Although that is a sad life. haha I'm such a shipper. It's in my blood, I swear.

Hehe. Babe, I love the way you are so passionate about it, its awesome 🙂 I'm in the middle of a SPN rewatch at the moment in prep for the SPN convention I'm going to next month. Now whenever there is a scene with Gabriel and Sam I won't be able to look at them the same! hahaha.

GAHHH good! 🙂 (I'd have repped this if I hadn't just repped you)

See, I don't get this either.... Sam and Gabriel have such a messed up relationship (I mean Sam tried to kill him pretty much everytime they met up until the episode in the hotel with all the gods)... And Samifer? Luci almost killed him by making him crazy, I don't get how you can ship them? Yes, some of his jokes were funny, but I was way too sad by what was happening to him to consider shipping them.... Maybe I'm just way too invested in Sam himself *red cheeks*

zobothehobo agrees: I just don't... I don't see how you could agree Ben is Dean's son and not ship Dean/Lisa. It just... Ben could have ti all.

Well, Ben acts exactly like Dean and there were parts when their relationship as father & son was great. But I can't stand Lisa, she gets on my nerves everytime she's on screen. Not really something I can control...

Captain Jack!!!

Lafeyette from True Blood, although I don't really like the show (love the books though, but Lafeyette is killed off right away).

Sam Adama from Caprica- too bad we only got one season. 🙁

Willow & Tara of course.

And it appears that I really, really need to watch the L-Word. I love Jennifer Beal!

Oh, I forgot Pam from True Blood! LOVE her! 😀

Oh I forgot her too, I love Pam, both on the shows and in the books!

Also the mention of Santana Lopez got me thinking about Brittney on Glee. I'm not a big fan of Santana, I like her with Britt, but Santana alone is a great voice but nothing really more to me (the difference with how they treat Dave's bullying and hers kind of astounds me a little). However I do love the idea of her and Britt together but I credit that mostly to Britt 🙂 I don't find her particularly pretty or anything but there's something about her. As someone on these boards once described James Marsters (I believe it was Joan the vampire slayer but I could be wrong) she could have chemistry with a door! That's how engaging I find Britt and that's why she'll have to make my list of favorites here 🙂

Teddy Montgomery. 90210. They did such an awesome job with him dealing with and coming to terms with his sexuality. And he is an every-guy, instead of the stereotypical gay. He is such a good friend, and he's the kind of guy I would like to date. Love me some Teddy!

Rewatching Dawson's Creek and inevitably, i have to add Jack McPhee to my list. I was so sad when he went and kissed Ethan, only to learn the guy was back with his ex 🙁

My favourite's Santana. I do love her bitchiness. And I don't really care if her behaviour is 'wrong' in anyways and she got away with it...it's a frickin TV show! If you don't like the wat the show is written, just don't watch it. I, for one, love Santana and think she's awesome.

Omar Little ofc. But I also LOVE Larry Blaisdell after he comes out of the closet to Xander.

Michael from Queer as Folk... I just love him! Hes such a nerd.... And dont stone me, but I do love Kennedy... a lot...

I love Michael! (And I also don't hate Kennedy. Sshhh...don't tell anyone.) :)
Can't believe I never added Blaine Anderson to the list. He is so adorable with Kurt (like best Glee couple EVER!) and he has an amazing voice and he is so strong (even after what happened with Sebastian in S3)!

Omar Little from The Wire is probably my top pick. He's a huge part of that series and just rocks it the whole way through.

I was a big Renly Baratheon fan from Game of Thrones. I liked the storyline with him where he had the weakest claim to the throne, but probably would have made the best king.

When it comes to LGBT characters on screen, I like it best when their sexuality isn't the main focus of the character. I find that so many times, gay and transgendered characters are portrayed with their sexuality being the only noteworthy thing to say about them, and that drives me nuts. It just feels demeaning. I mean, more often than not we see characters on television where their entire arc and only defining characteristic is that they're gay. I mean, I know Glee is a popular show, but Kurt is a horrible character. If he wasn't gay, would there be a single reason for him to exist as a character on that show? Nope. And that's just poor writing.

I mean, Willow on Buffy, Omar on The Wire and Renly on Game of Thrones are great examples of how gay characters should be written. Their sexuality is never hidden or anything like that, but they're all important to the plot and the story, so who they like to sleep with never really matters. I mean, I don't think of Willow as "the gay character" on Buffy. I just think of her as another person, and that's how it should be, because in all honesty, who you sleep with really doesn't (or shouldn't) matter. But when gay characters are written as little more than stereotypes, that's what the thinking becomes, and that's just dumb to me.

Willow and Tara of course.
Alice, Dana, Shane from the L Word
How can we forget the soul mates Xena and Gabrielle
Bryan, Justin and Emmett from Queer as Folk
Lafeyette True Blood
Santana and Britney- Glee
Kurt Hummel-Glee
