By the way, Michelle, someone I know says that the term "fag" comes from the term for the bundles of wood used to burn gays at the stake in medeival times. I am not sure that I believe that, but maybe it's partially true.

yeah, ive heard that too. i also am for adoption. why not? i mean, normal couples can adopt, so should gay ones.

Someone told me it's hard for single fathers or a gay couple to adopt a child because the child wellfare places are afraid of child molestation. Is that true?

There was this thing on MTV a month or so back. It was about this one season of Real World where one of the cast members was dating some guy from the army and he had to have his face blurred whenever he was on camera because there were certain gay laws in the military. I find all this unfair to people. America opressed the African American community for years, mostly from 1960-1970 (i think), but activists showed America that they are no different than white or hispanic people. If America could change its ways back then, why can't it do it now?

I think Gays should be allowed to be married, there really is no reason why they cant since they are human beings and just like the rest of us. They deserve happiness and to be with the one they love.

As for the whole adoption thing, that could be a reason but I highly doubt it, depending on the company and state its all of their thinking. They probably think that if the child has gay parents they may turn out gay or something. The USA is very judgemental.

everyone who is not actively breeding in a heterosexual marriage "anti-family".

Okay...that is just the most hilarious thing said in this thread...RandyGiles...you just made my day!

I don't know how I feel about adoption, I personally don't want to be a parent...but I don't know.

If you need a good example of gay/lesbian parenting...Just look at Willow and Tara....they took great care of Dawn while Buffy was dead...in fact they were one of the best sets of TV parents ever...and they offered Dawn something she had not had in years...a stable family life....

We even looked up words like "fag" in the dictonary and it means like a bunch of sticks or something. Strange how a bunch of sticks could be described as a gay person.

This word is used pretty often in the UK, but not in this context, its used as another word for a cigarette.

With the condition of most government run adoption and forster shelters today in the U.S (I don't know about how they are anywhere else, so I can't say), anybody who is against anyone who is not mentally unstable or cruel adopting a child is wrong. Things happen in those types of shelters-people get hurt and abused. If someone is willing to take a child out of the foster care system where they are being bounced from unstable home to unstable home and give them a happy, stable, and safe family, they should be allowed to do so as long as they can support them. Be they single parents, or a gay couple, if they are financially and mentally capable they should be allowed to adopt a child.

OK so since every decides not to listen to the person with the different perspective I am going to give up on this argument and let you all agree with each other from here on in. It frustrates me when people can not accept another persons point of view. Sad people.

We heard your opinion and we didn't make fun of you. We're aloud to disagree on a topic.

We have accepted your opinion as your opinion. That does not mean that we have to agree with it. In your defense, I do feel kinda bad that none of the other people who voted no had the courage to say why, but I do respect you for you're willingness to stand up and state your opinion. You're opinions were heard, you were just outnumbered. Unfortunately, we have discussions, so that everyone can state there view...it just seems yours was the minority in this forum.

At the end of the day, you fall in love with, who you fall in love with despite age, gender, race etc.
Gay people are still people, and it pisses me off when straight (guys mostly) pick on, or are just totally anti-gay, there's no point, we are who we are.
Gay people should get married if they want, simple as...

Completly pro-adoption.

FYI: Italian governement has recently passed a law to ban out unnatural ways to get children like sperm donors and such. Only IFV is allowed now, but only if the parents are of different genders 🙁 I hate that little fat piggy president of theirs humpf! What a mean dumb dictator!

Vampyr, I'll admit..I kinda did make fun of you a bit...
But you also have to realize that your point of veiw says I'm dammned for all eternity and I do not deserve the right to be with the person I love...so yeah...I did take your point of veiw a bit personally...

Could'nt of said it better. very true. I dont see why they should be picked on because of their sexuality.

No one here accepted my opinion, no one listened to it and accepted that its my opinion. You all told me that I was wrong and that shouldnt be the basis of an argument. If you want to make me see that my opinion is wrong you have to prove it to me, not just down right tell me that I am wrong. Thats why I am no longer participating in this argument.
Just because I am the minority doesnt mean my opinion should be abused and rejected. And Vicious I hadnt noticed that you had mad fun of me, but if that was your intent then you are more ignorant than I thought you were. Full Stop.

i didn't mean ta offend ya vampyr, and i did listen to what you had to say, did respect your opinion, completely disagreed with it but....fundmental differences...everyone has a right to their own opinions, i'm all for ppl having their own opinions i do have a bit of a problem with opinions that will harm others. it hurts, when ppl say i'm destined for hell just because i like someone, and want to act on it.
you are pretty brave, actually saying, and stating your opinions and beliefs, especially in this case being of the minority and i do respect that, and wish that i could be more like that in a lot of cases, it does take a bit. i hope i didn't come off as mean, and i did not at all mean to come off as teasing you for your opinion. its your choice if ya wanna stop debating, tis up to you, but you also need to be willing to have your mind changed, not totally willing but can't be steel minded, not to imply that you are, but being open to the possibilities helps. and it sucks being a minority doesn't it? specially if you feel no one is listening, paying attention, and saying you're wrong.
i didn't mean to come off that way. i did try to explain and try to prove a few points, but me, i've never really voiced my opinion before, one friend and rarely my parents. i keep my views to myself. i'm new to this, but...

adoption works for me, long as ppl are stable and willing why not? that's what the main goal is right? to get the kids to safe stable families.
episcopalians seem to be pretty ok with gays, 1st gay bishop was just elected even with threat of a schism...not totally for it, but i think they were proposing a thign to let ppl be religiously married, but not legally...i'm not sure, been awhile since it was in the paper so...
anti-family eh? what's their take on infertile couples?
completely agree lee,
and it took quite a while for americans to adjust to not being prejudiced and segregated, it did, and it will prolly take longer for america to do the same for non-straights (except maybe for asexuals, they won't understand them much more, but they're not as....threatening to some...it might not be the right wording, but some ppl are really afraid of gays, there are quite a few reasons, self doubt, vulnerability etc....but...i'm not pos. on this cuz i dunno much bout asexuality, nor do i know anyone but...if i understood the definitions right, asexuals aren't attracted to either gender, may be wrong, and say if am but that's the impression i was under, so they don't pose a "threat" to anyone really. i'm not explaining this correctly and i'm honestly not sure how...but i think ppl would view them as safer cuz they're not really attracted to either, it wouldn't really bother anyone....i really am explaining this wrong...but...)
i always sorta found it funny when some guys were asked why they have a problem with gays, and they said they were afraid they'd get hit on by them...and their manliness or soemthing is questioned, which i dun quite get but might be cuz im not a guy an' all...but that's assuming all gay guys will hit on all guys. which the first few times, totally blew my mind. they expect the guys'll hit on 'em but they never expect the girls to do that, double standard. prolly cuz they don't comphrend anything of it. specific tastes and all....*shrugs* i dunno...

None taken from you faiths5x5 🙂

I just get really frustrated when people are quick to judge and to accuse even when they havent properly researched the two different sides of the argument. They are blind to the other side.

I have looked at both sides of the argument, I love Homosexual people, I have nothing against them. But when you say that they should be given the religious priviledge of marriage, its then that I get mad. If they really want to show their love to the world then whats wrong with getting a legal binding? Its the same thing, just not religious!

But everyone is adamant on proving that Gay people should be allowed to marry. If I was given half a chance maybe I could explain why they shouldnt, but everytime I open my mouth I am snapped at and rejected.

Oh... i had know idea that a legal binding and marriage are basically the same thing, only that legal binding isnt based on a religion. I appolgise for attacking you before. I understand what you mean now.

It depends on your perspective, marriage has evolved and to many it's not religious any more, but there are still a lot of ppl that it's very religious to. Marriage isn't just religious anymore, and it's not just financial anymore either. Atheists get married, legally w/o any religion....you can go to a courthouse and get married and never set foot in a religious (church synagogue etc...i'm not sure on the names and all but get the drift?) they're considered married, tho maybe not in the eyes of god.
I understand the frustration cuz I have it a lot too, almost constantly cuz my school is phobic and they don't want to give any one a chance to prove themselves.
I'm more than willing to listen, i uh...do have some questions, cuz as of yet no one's been able to explain them to me...
A big thing with Jesus was unconditional love, and not judging/condemning others right? so why are ppl that aren't straight the exception? priests will stand in the pulpit week after week saying love your fellow man, treat him with respect dont judge etc...but...then they'll go on and on about how evil gays are. they did the same think to african americans, and many other groups, the church is very...cliquey...
maybe i'm recallling wrong but didn't you say that its aight to be gay as long as you don't act on any feelings and stuff?
have you any idea what that would be like to do? it would be bad enough if you weren't in love with someone but...try to relate...for a moment, pretend that opp.-sex relationships are being treated the same way, and you liked the opp. sex, imagine being told that if you ever acted on those feelings you'd be hell destined....itd be worse if you were in love with someone. its taking away a person's rights to be themselves, to say that they can't act on what they feel.
me i've no plans to get married. i'm not saying i never will cuz i dunno but....i don't want my options closed off to me. or to be married and not be able to declare it really...clarification.
i have dual citizenship with the netherlands. born there and all...but...they allow same sex marriages so technically i could get married to any gender i choose, which makes me adore the dutch more, i'm not sure it'd hold up here (not sure on the age thing either but...) and i wouldn't want to try it at least not now. but i wouldn't plan on having a religious ceremony no matter what gender i married, cuz im not all that religious, i wanna be but i can't really believe in anything at the moment, wish i could but...to me i'd still be married, even if i didn't have a religious ceremony. it wouldn't make me any less married, and i would say i was married. and if they approve civil unions and i'd ever get married which i doubt i will, id still say i was married, its a state of mind thing with me sorta.

OK, I agree with you that some churches are like that. Not all. My church is fairly open with their ideals as long as it abides by the book. The church isnt the ultimate say, God is. God never condemned The African Americans... only people in the church did. And they were sinning!
When Jesus says love your fellow man, he means be at peace with them, do not judge them, that is God's job. Its like, I know in America they have Capital Punishment. Thats like, the ultimate Crime.. even if a person has commited murder, humans have no right to reap so much vengeance on a person as to publically murder them in return. They will have their judgement passed by God. It is not ours to judge. Its the same with Gay people, and also the reason I dont mind Gay people, its not my place to judge them, its Gods place.

maybe i'm recallling wrong but didn't you say that its aight to be gay as long as you don't act on any feelings and stuff?

Probably, I dont remember... but I stick by what I said, however, I dont see a person as being Gay unless they do act upon their feelings. Otherwise they are just feelings. We arent condemned for those... but its when you act upon those feelings that you are choosing to be Gay and to defy the will of God.

but i wouldn't plan on having a religious ceremony no matter what gender i married, cuz im not all that religious

Then you wouldnt technically be married in my opinion. I dont see the point in getting married unless you are doing it to prove to God that you only want to be with one person for the rest of your life. I'm assuming that that is why there are so many divorces these days, because people no longer get married for God. I dont know why people get married if they arent doing it for God. It seems like a pointless exercise.
