How do you feel about Season 8?

I haven't readany of the comics, but i have roughly scanned the plot and blah.
I just can't bring myself to like, or envisage it. It all seems a little, i want to say far fetched. Just for lack of better words.
It's hard to follow, and, call me old fashioned, but i like the idea of 'one girl in all the world' ..Just Buffy. And Faith ofcourse.
But yeah, i think if i read it, i wouldn't like it. Too much change. Hard to follow. And loss of the orginial Buffy-Magic that we all love.

It's definitely a different medium and doesn't come within a hemisphere of the TV show but I enjoy it, if for no other reason than it continues the story with characters I grew to love watching the TV show.
 
I thought I was going to dislike it which was why I avoided them for so long. However now that I've read them I'm glad that I have. I find the stories highly enjoyable (though much like with episodes I don't love every single issue) and I love the chance to get to see the characters develop and live on, even if in a different format.

There's a difference between skimming the headlines of the plot and actually following the story, or so I discovered when I gave reading the comics a chance. Suddenly it wasn't hard to follow anymore 🙂
I'm re-reading them currently and enjoying them a lot so I'm very positive towards s8 (though yes, there have been a lot of changes... not all bad though 🙂)
 
It's alright. The story is decent, while a bit underwhelming after the premise(I thought). I really like how Xander turned out, he's my fav character in s8.
But why kill Ethan why? Why not just have him be one of the villains instead of that lame ass Warren...

I still think that AtF was more interesting and loyal to it's tv show counterpart. Hopefully the whole *Twilight* plotline get more enjoyable.

I hate the comics.

I've read them, so I'm not saying this out of supposition, but the storyline's are terrible, the art (not Chen's covers, the inner art) is pretty bad and the characters are not who we saw on the show.

You can tell me they're canon all you like, but for me, in my canon, the series ended at NFA. I'd much rather have fanfic, anyway. A lot of it's better written than the comics.

So yeah, I don't like them. 😀

So far, I've found it rather enjoyable, though there are times that I disagree with some of the minor, or not so minor details, like Batsu, for instance. Being one of the few people who enjoyed him when he first appeared, I really enjoyed "Wolves At The Gate," and the return of Dracula as an ally, if not a friend of Buffy's team, except for maybe Xander. Faith's arc was good, if you can get past an only semi-educated Bostonian being able to pull of a believable impersonation of a sophisticated British debutant. It's been nice to see Oz again, as well as Fray. On the whole, I think that Joss and his staff have don an excellent job of adapting Buffy from a live action TV character to the much different comic book media. On the other hand, I absolutely DESPISE the cliffhanger at the end of issue #35, coupled with the long wait until #36 is published.

On an aside, Season 8, as well as After The Fall, and of course, the "Fray" miniseries, have served to reintroduce me to the comic book media, something that I have not explored in decades, and it is interesting to see just how much comics have evolved in my absence. Most noticeably the slick paper as opposed to much cheaper pulp of my youth, obviously a concession to collectors, the new generation of artists (I would have loved to see how the great Russ Manning would have drawn Buffy or Angel) and the much fewer number of pages, coupled with the much greater amount of advertising, per issue. Evolution isn't necessarily always a good thing. On the other hand, I can appreciate how the level of maturity in the subject matter has grown.

"Evolution isn't necessarily always a good thing" yeah, they dont have the tactile experience you expect from a comic book. They feel dispassionate..
I loved the season 8 comics until about 3 issues ago. The last arc challenged my fandom quite a bit, but I am still hopeful things will really come together again in this last arc that's starting next week.

I had no trouble adjusting to the comics format of the story, and I don't think the "ridiculous" elements have been any sillier than some of the stuff done on the TV show. But I do think the long wait between "episodes" has not been good for the story. In season 9 it looks like they're changing things up, with the story split into several different series with different writers and artists, with a new comic on the shelves almost every week and the whole thing lasting only two years instead of five.
 
Season 8 is decent. Not good but not terrible, somewhere in the middle. Hopefully things will pick up again in "Last Gleaming" but I won't count on it. It's still better than Season 6 IMO.
 
I'm in love with it. Completely in love, and I disagree with statements about the characters being different from the show. They all felt more in character to me than they did in S7.

Agreed 100%. I was more than content with the Buffyverse ending at Chosen/Not Fade Away and in my head, it still did, but I'm the same way. I thought they wee horrible until I read them and they're not.
 
Let's just say I read it only to see how much worse it can get. Not just because it's full of plot developments that make me wonder if I am reading a crack fanfic but also because I like the mixture of normal life and monster hunting that the show used to excel in. In S8 there is no normal life, everything is about Slaying and the supernatural.
 
While I like S8 for the most part, I really miss the more down to earth of the tv series and hope we return to that in S9.

I agree with that. Sometimes with the comics the lack of a budget limitation works against them and they just got too big with things.
 
In my opinion it's really bad and it feels like it's going to be like most super hero comics out there from Marvel/DC.

Now that I think about it the plots feel like they were gotten from those wrestling shows that are popular in the US.

Of course we are now up to the whitewashing part of Angel with him killing people for the greater good and all that rot.
 
I love Buffy comics but i wasn't that impressed with Season 8. I am glad it wasn't made as a television show as i think it would have ruined Buffy for me. I dunno what it was but just some of the things that that characters were doing in season 8 just didn't seem believeable, i dunno if it was just me but i just couldn't imagine some of the characters doing the things they did :S
 
I haven't read the comics, but I've looked up what happens and I too think it's far-fetched and a long way from what the TV show was. Also, I've never hated Bangel (even as a Spuffy shipper I can appreciate it and accept that Buffy and Angel will ultimately end up together) but what the hell is with the new-universe-creating space sex? Suddenly they both have god-like superpowers?! I would have been happy with Angel eventually getting shanshued and having a normal life with Buffy, but this?! No, this isn't what I envisaged or hoped would happen! Season 8 is WAY too weird for me. I don't think I'm going to buy it. I would much rather pretend it doesn't exist and just stick to watching the epicness that was the TV series. Also, I'm not really a big fan of the comic format.

Sorry to anyone who likes the comics.

I feel that Joss should have worked more within the limits of what the shows limits would have been (such as NO giant Dawn). Kind of not buying the most recent storyline with Buffy and Angel, and I hate Buffy and Satsu together, it just makes no sense to me. Joss said Buffy was a very sexual character, but I just never saw her going and sleeping with another woman. If it had been Faith I honestly don't feel like it would have been that out of place, but Buffy never.

Overall though I've enjoyed seeing Buffy continued. I've read all the comics but I'm still extremely excitied for the motion comic release even though the voice acting sucks!!
 
I´m in the beginning and so far I feel weird... the plot is, I don´t know, weird.
 
I've read all the Buffy issues and I hate them I only keep reading because theyre deemed canon by Joss so I like to know what's going on even if I personally dont consider them canon. The storyline is terrible. The characters are written out of character. The writing is terrible in general. And it pretty much infuriates me to see the characters acting so stupid.

However, I decided since I was trudging throught the awfulness of the Buffy Comics I might as well give the Angel ones a try. Those are really good. Aftermath not so much but i've heard good things about the following issues. But After The Fall is amazing. So well written, the characters are spot on, and I found the whole story arc so interesting and fun and almost had me crying at moments.
 
Honestly, I'm let down by the comics. I was so excited to see what season 8 had in store. Don't get me wrong, it had a lot of good plots "The Chain" was amazing and the Japanese vampires/dracula story line was my favorite. But the majority of things that happened was so ridiculous that it killed a lot for me.
Buffy and Angel having sex on the moon? Buffy & Co vs US military? Demon dolls?
I was really hoping it would have something to bring to the series, but now it makes absolutely no sense to me, especially the last 2 arcs. Depending on how this season ends will completely chose whether I follow season 9 or not.
