I hope it will not be misinterpreted because I really do not want you believed that I criticize this person (you may be here and that's not my intention) but this kind of message makes me uncomfortable and sad in a way because I really don't understand. I try but I can't !
I understand that the series can mean enormously for some, it is also my case and certain characters, some couples represents a part of life for some and maybe that's the reason why some take things too much to heart and I understand in a way !
But I do not agree with everything that is said about Sarah. She is TeamBangel, Okay, that's her choice, we can only respect that ! But She posted pictures of her and David, her and James, she never disrespected James and his work. She says all the time that she doesn't choose between James and David, she choose between Angel and Spike, she loves David and James equally and even if she prefers David, where is the problem ?
We all have more affinities with some people than others, and as long as she respects James and gets along well with him, this is the main thing for me. Really, I find this kind of message a little extreme and also sad because if you really feel it like that, so I'm sorry for you !

Yes. As much as I love the show, people like this simply need to get out more and appreciate the difference between life and fiction.

Also just to go into it a bit further. People need to stop thinking there's a contract in place between actors and audiences. There isn't. An actor takes a role and does the best they can with it. They get paid for their work and it might give them spring board for more work. The audience watches and enjoys the show, maybe buys some merch. That's it. The audience member isn't obliged to watch everything else the actor ever does and the actor isn't obliged to pander to the audience of any show they happen to have worked on.
 
Anyone who has the time and cares enough to write that out is need of a wee sitdown. Honestly, actors owe you nothing. Especially when it's based on your personal opinion. That's not how the world works? Maybe they're very young and not realised it.
 
Wow...at first I laughed and laughed...but now I just feel sad lol. Could you imagine poor SMG having crazies send her things like this all the time? I'm surprised she's as friendly and open as she is . And the person who wrote it...it's really depressing . It's like those people who sent Selena Gomez hate mail and death threats cause she was dating Bieber. Some people have no perception of reality.
 
The only thing that comes to mind in trying to understand it for me is that some people assume disapproval and hostility at all times unless reassured otherwise, and they can be remarkably creative in finding insults and snubs where none are intended (which tends to alienate most people creating a self-fulfilling prophecy of being abandoned, and many of those who don't are probably trying to exploit or use said person), and I personally find such people exhausting given all the constant reassurance they require. It seems to me this person is doing something similar to that, but on behalf of Spike/James.

Beyond that, I couldn't say. It kind of reminds me of how some people overly identify with certain political figures (so you can't criticize said politician without the person feeling personally attacked, for example), and people are known to become extremely obsessed with celebrities to the point that they become a nuisance, or even danger.

And it wouldn't surprise me if James Marsters was more disturbed than flattered by that "championing" of him, his character, and Spuffy, especially given that he wasn't a fan of Spuffy himself, IIRC. Still, I kinda hope he doesn't say anything as I worry that someone who wrote that isn't very stable and might react in very bad ways to criticism (and possibly even praise) by James Marsters.
 
Not only is this extremely badly written and ridiculous but this part :

«He was the light of the series from the moment he appeared»

Are they seriously telling that to the female lead of the show they're trying to cater to, asking for equality? What bullshit.

And yes, SMG doesn't owe shit to anyone. And after the way she tried to answer the question and dealt with everything for the 20th anniversary (the big thank you, the tweets, the pics, etc.), to see that people are still upset... She's been trying for those fans. To appease them. And it's not still working? At the end of the day those people complain about treatment but what they really can't accept is the fact that she prefers Bangel. Because I really don't see what more she can do at this point.

Honestly, was anyone actually surprised by SMG's answer for this? She's been singing the same tune since the show was still on the air in the early days (since AT least 1999) that she believes Buffy belongs with Angel.

I don't think it's a decision of David vs James. She likes both, she admires both...but she has an opinion for her character and as someone who is actually a fan of the series. Yes, while it can be argued that Spuffy is a more popular ship, she has always maintained an allegiance that for her character, it's Angel. She has said this for almost twenty years, and still maintains allegiance to this day. It's one of the things I enjoy about her (and not because I ship B/A) -- that she has a strong opinion for her character and voices it. Too many actors on shows string multi-fanbases along and I hate that.
 
And then she added one with David saying «and not to be left out...».

This is getting really ridiculous and it's sad that she feels she has to do that. But I get it. I wouldn't want to piss off fans either. I'm just really annoyed at the fans for putting her in that situation where she feels bad for promoting one over the other.

Where are the people yelling because she's not promoting Buffy/Dawn or Buffy/Willow or Buffy/Riley? Urgh. It's always between those 2 groups and I'm sick of it.

"I respect your opinion", goes on a rant clearly not respecting her opinion, rather arguing why her opinion is wrong? 🙄 "Spuffys are suffering from your distreat", right, well some people have real problems.

Hasn't Sarah been saying, and was saying during the reunion, that she does like James just as much personally but that for her personally she preferred Bangel as a ship? I don't get it. I mean, why does her choice matter so much for people? It shouldn't dictate how they feel after all, she's not the authority on shipping.

This is where fandom gets corrosive (just like when people were down on SMG for not doing commentaries etc), when you expect that actor to adjust to your needs.
