If Buffy and Angel were airing on tv today

Sure classics win, I agree.

But if it wasn't a classic. I.e. if it was aired, in it's current condition, now as a new show... then it wouldn't be classic, it would sadly probably become a failed tv-show because there's a different climate in the tv-world and it wouldn't have the competitive edge, no matter how good the writing.
 
Sad to say but you could be right .. Their too many bad shows out there so people wouldn't be attracted to it & as such woun't have a chance
to get pulled in by the writing .
 
There are also too many good shows out there too... there are more shows period. And granted, I know some people like those CSI's and Law & Orders but please. They can go.
 
Some shows just hang on because the networks have no idea what else to do.
 
They hang on because they have an audience and/or make money. L&O I think does both of those.
 
Lets face it, moron TV has always more popular then anything even vaguely well written. Imo depressing really.
 
Agreed. Look how popular Realty Shows are when you know they anything but real.
 
Yeah, a lot of people watch TV for simple mindless entertainment and to escape real life; networks give us that. Lots of it.
 
I think if you played the exact same show it would still have a following but if you remade it with the same scripts & actors but updated effects you'd have a hit show. I think the most similar show currently airing is Grimm and it is doing okay in the sense it's been on for several seasons. I watch it and enjoy it but I don't think the stories are as strong as on Buffy.
 
Once upon a time has gotten really confushing .
 
You know things are bad when you cant keep track of the storylines .
 
I haven't had the time to read all the comments but I don't think
Just airing the episodes as is would work. Obviously new technology would have to be used and the setting needed some updating but all in all, taking the pure script and cast it would work.
Plus I think without Buffy opening the way for supernatural teenage shows todays shows wouldn't be where they are now.
 
You right in that it need some updating to work . Also I think the other shows are popular because Buffy showed the way so to speak.
 
I think you need to realize how influential Buffy/Angel are. Shows like Vampire Diaries wouldn't be as good as they are. Although I've never watched Vampire Diaries, I've seen comparison threads and such where people pointed out how TVD copies BtVS.
