Just out of curiosity, how does the Anita Blake series compare to Buffy? Just thought it be alright to add another franchise to the discussion.
It's veeery different. But jean whatever his name was reminded me of spike and angelus and damien, attitude wise. I only read the 4 first books and from what i remember each book was:
Anita is a kick ass female who's trying to be witty, but failing. In each book she has to solve a case. She seems like a feministic role model at first, not being enthralled with vampires like the rest of society(which reminds me strongly of season 8&9s vampires are popular plot) but she doesn't seem to be angry enough with the sexually harrasing jean as she should(it really made me appreciate buffy's more healthy disgust with spike in season 6). Also, all that hot action we're promised? I heard there's actual sex in book 7 or something, but in the 4 first books there's maybe two "sexy" scenes per book, and those consists of anita being sexually assulted. I think it's okay to be into that, book there weren't enough scenes to be a very sexual series, as i hoped.
I didn't buy the fifth book since anita was contemplating going out with jean, since he pointed out that since her boyfriend had dated her for a while, he should get a date as well.
It was years since i read the books, and obviously there were good things about the books, since i bought the following three right after reading the first one, but for the life of me, i can't remember what. The angry feministic voice in my head couldn't stand it anymore, and even though my niece, who loves the series and also twilight and buffy, so i think she has somewhat good taste, assures me it gets better and that jean is nicer later on, i didn't read any further. I just couldn't stand he thought of her ending up with that creep, which she will later on.
I'm thinking about reading on of the later books one day though, to see how the series evolve. But i would recommend borrowing, not buying. And to answer your original question;
Buffy would roll her eyes at anita and stake jean. It's a very very different plot and set of characters.
