Just began watching Angel...

I've only seen Angel once, I finished the whole things two months ago. I really liked it.

For me, season 1 was okay, not great - a first season indeed. There are two sorts of first seasons to great shows : the kind that hooks everybody from the beginning and after that it can go either way (Veronica Mars, Desperate Housewives, Heroes...) and the kind that's not that great but that you have to sit through if you want to fully enjoy the rest (Buffy, Angel...).

Season 2 was not my favourite, I found the Darla thing quite boring actually... But I loooved the Pylea episodes ! (Fred love!)

Season 3 was amazing, I cannot understand how people are not warmer about it, I remember being hardly able to resist the temptation to watch it all in one day (with all the Wesley drama, that was so unexpected and well written).

Season 4 was good : it could have been great but I think it's Charisma's pregnancy to blame (though I'm of course not blaming Charisma for getting pregnant! =D). I think it ruined everything, you can truly see how they changed storylines at the last minute just to fit it in (I'm thinking Jennifer Garner in Alias, I'm thinking Marcia Cross in Desperate Housewives, I'm even thinking Holly Marie Combs in Charmed...).

Season 5 was really great, though everyone saying it was amazing made me expect more... I loved lots of things about it, the surprise at the end is amazingly brought. I think my biggest problem with that season must be that it was the last one : never ending the Fred thing really bugs me, in a way I cannot describe. I mean, if there had been a S6 and Joss could have had Willow separate Illyria from Fred (some kind of giant mystical mitosis I guess!), I'd love S5 way more... Now all I can think of is that one of the greatest characters I've ever seen was just killed off, that her soul was burnt, that there's nothing left from her and that her body has been raped by an evil ancient God who uses it just like a shell, disrespectfully. I know that it's not what it was supposed to be but since the show ends, that's all we got to see, so that's all there is to see. It makes me sad, really.

Well, there's always the comics if you want season 6. :)
I bought all seasons of Angel and I watched the first season which I actually really liked (Doyle was so cute! It's too bad...).
I also watched half of the second season but then I didn't have time to watch it anymore and eventually I just forgot about it.

After a while I started to watch Buffy again and when I was finished with S7 I needed to know if Spike really didn't die so I just watched season 5. At first, of course I didn't get that much but a friend filled me in on most stuff so it was okay and I really enjoyed watching it! Angel and Spike together are just the perfect team! (Although they both got pretty old... lol)

Anyway since I'm watching Buffy right now I think I'll start watching Angel again when I reach S4. This time I plan to watch all of it, though.

I've only seen the first 2 seasons of Angel but I LOVED it. I haven't watched it in a couple of years but now that I have both Buffy & Angel sets soon, I'm going to watch all the seasons of Angel in order after I watch Buffy. I'm really excited because I loved season one & season two, it's a great show & nobody should miss out on it!!

Make sure you DON'T READ SPOILERS!! There're some big ones, so just be careful! :)
That's really cool that you're starting Angel. I just started it this year. I first watched S4, then S5. That was a REALLY bad mistake... It spoiled like everything... Then I got S1 and S2. Right now I'm in the middle of a run-through (of all the Whedonverse actually...), and I have two more epy's left of S3. It's intense, but I would've crapped my pants if I wouldn't've known what was gonna happen.

I can't wait til you get to S4. Please tell us what you think!

Hey everyone, so i'm catching up on TNT which just started with the first season all over again (after watching the end of season 4 and all of season 5)

the show's so different.
what happened to kate? she was hot and i think she had a lot of room in the show...i wonder what happened toher.

things i've noticed:
the growth of cordelia just started in an episode today where she starts to talk about how sensitive angel is not.
you really see that she's becoming angel's moral compass in this episode...it's interesting to watch that begin and it's not out of nowhere as cordy knows angel from sunnydale and is on her own road of redemption. it's a really neat contrast s1 cordy vs "you're welcome" cordy. love the growth.

DOYLE...uh...i love him. and i can't believe he was killed off (it's even sadder that he died in real life 🙁).

the show as a whole just seems different. it's more "noir. it really is like a dark detective show..the rogue investigator...in s4 s5 it's become more fantasy/sci-fi. which is cool. show's evolve.

today the episode "i will remember you" aired on TNT and i was like "DAMN!"
it was soooooo good to see buffy in L.A. and how she was interacting with Cordy and Angel....(she was kind of a bitch). if i'd have just started watching angel w/o knowing Buffy, I would not like her.
Still, the episode is gold....I looooove the Oracles. I know what happens to them too and I think they too could have a lot of room in the show, but do understand why they were killed off. it made things a bit too easy.

so far, i'm loving it. i actually liked that i saw s4/s5 before s1...i like knowing where this show is going from the beginning. it seems much longer than 5 years...i mean by the end of the show none of the characters we know in early s1 (besides angel) are even around....
which leads me to the big thing i keep asking myself...why do all of angel's soldiers die?
doyle, cordy, fred, wesley, gunn...
and lorne deserts him...
give the guy a break!
i mean buffy never lost her main 2 or her watcher and at the end of that show she has like 50 allies.
but it'sl ike the powers that be WANT angel to be alone...want his followers to betray him or die. it's sad. 🙁
and it wrestles with my brain...because buffy stresses human connection and i see that on angel too...but for some reason...angel ends up alone and in hell?

hmm....

I also just began wtching it. My sister says the second and fifth season are the best. But I am still watching the first one, where Doyle died and Westley came (I just began falling in love with doyle's blue eyes) *grrr*

I freaking LOOOOVE AtS. The biggest reward from watching this show, for me, was watching the growth of Cordelia into one of my favorite character in the Buffyverse. It's a shame what was done with her. Seeing all the amazing-ness of Darla was also very gratifying. I loved every second of it.

And ladies and gentlemen, let's not forget three of the most amazing characters that originated on Angel: Lorne, Fred and Lilah Morgan!!!

I couldn't stand Connor though. And very rarely did I enjoy Gunn.

karma for the Lorne, Fred and Lilah love. I also hated Connor and rarely liked Gunn.
Angel is an awesome show, i really like all the seasons, i have just started rewatching season 1 as i can hardly remember S1 or 2. Just got through all of 1 and while it was sad that doyle died i really liked when Welsey came on the show, how would angel survive without having the rogue demon hunter by his side 😀

I definitely prefer BtVS but AtS is very cool. I was surprised I liked it at all, seeing as I never liked Angel, Cordy or Wesley before. But I think the reason is because of the awesome character development.
When Angel was in BtVS, frankly he didn't do much (well, apart from when he was Angelus) and he bored me. He seemed like an extension of Buffy, and rarely did we see him interact properly with other characters (exception is probably Faith). Unless he was evil and trying to kill them.. or they voiced their burning hatred for him! So glad he got his own show. Made me like him a hell of a lot more.
Don't think I need to say anything about Cordy and Wes, development pretty much speaks for itself!

I am stoked! I finally got my change jar full, took it down to Coinstar and got an Amazon gift card, with which I ordered the Angel box set - once it gets here I'll be an Angel watching fool!

i'm in the process of deciding if i want to replace my seasons 1 and 2 box sets (original, damaged bulk box with scratched DVDs) for the new ones (in which I just bought the 4th season, the only i was missing to complete my set).

I just started watching Angel myself. I just picked up Season 1 + 2 last week. BtVS is my favorite show ever by far...but never really though Angel looked appealing. Primary reason was because one of the main reasons I like BtVS so much is the character of Buffy. I'm just fascinated with her strengths and flaws, and I really, really enjoyed SMG's acting.

I've only gone thru a couple episodes of Angel, I won't judge it yet because BtVS didn't blow me away until midway thru Season 2. I'm hoping it gets better soon cuz its been a bit of struggle to keep watching and find myself watching BtVS reruns.

I think that what kills Angel is that people automatically compare it to Buffy, and their regard towards Buffy colors how they approach Angel. I guess this will always be unavoidable, but I hate this because sure, Angel is a spin-off - but it is it's own show.

The two shows are very different. Buffy is more classic horror and comedy, with just the right amount of action-adventure mixed in. Angel, though, is dark and melodramatic - it's more like a detective drama with that classic touch of a homage to noir. Sure, the two shows explore some of the same themes, but they are very different in their tone, elements, and set-up. I wish people would stop comparing the two. They're both high-quality, good shows. (And the only two shows I can think of that are meant to be watched together in crossover.)

'Parting Gifts' was a really emotional episode and I agree, it was what first made me really, really start to like Cordelia. She became my favourite Angel character! I hope you enjoy the rest of your 'journey.' I can guarantee you it will be a good one!
