Mental health

I predict a rush on divorce courts once people are allowed out again:

@Taake Meh...it's par for the course. Why d'you think so many women insist on having a patio?
I'm afraid that this is also having an effect on my physical health.

Since the restrictions started, I've had two horrible headaches accompanied by nausea and light sensitivity to the point where I can't really do anything other than sleep it off and still feel like shit the next morning (usually happens in the evenings), last time I had one of these before the lockdown was back in November and I'm afraid that it's just going to get worse...and that's also affecting my mental health.

If it weren't for the pandemic I would have already gone to the doctor to see what's going on...

Tip - stop watching the news programs.
I am NOT doing too well. After going shopping earlier, all the masked people seriously depressed me. I put away the things I was going to buy and rushed home.

Then there's work, which has become sheer torture since they made masks mandatory. I go in tomorrow at 7am. The world feels...sad. God, WHEN is this going to end??!!!

I wish there would be a dance off between Sam Rockwell and Tom Hiddleston. My money would be on Rockwell winning but Hiddleston could pull something out of the bag. Rockwell's dancing is all over youtube so Hiddleston would have an unfair advantage at knowing some of the moves his opponent possesses.

Alternatively, have an MCU dance off. The actors have to be in full costume, their character names get pulled out of a hat and they have to dance against their randomly picked opponent (but make sure Justin Hammer and Loki are pitted against each other).

You cold have Hawkeye vs Black Widow, Bucky vs Falcon, Nebula vs Thor etc.

Which MCU characters would you put opposite each other in a dance off?

I know it's Easter not Christmas but still the rest of the world should enjoy our British tradition of panto!

My moods have been all over the place. I've had the last week off work but have to go back today, the thought of which caused me so much stress I broke down crying yesterday. I've been fluctuating between anxious and sad and feel like my mood just swings wildly with no direction. Fun times.

Same here!! 😔
Yeah my 1st week after everyone else was shut down was rough! With the decrease in hours, I've been working mostly 3-4 days a week which helps.

In order to save my sanity I need to give @nightshade some useful information, to make sure that everyone enjoys the good old English Panto. As you are a Staff Member can you alter it (said in a nice way) so that every time a member visits a post with the recording of a panto on the post should be played automatically.
PS If it is possible, don't let anyone else know.

Politicians sometimes (?) do my head in, they kept going on about not touch people, not getting to close to other people, to wrist bump people and not shake their hands. Yet that means a person has to get close to another person.

Cannot stop randomly crying. Haven't been this bad since the long ago days of my PTSD. Seems like the smallest thing sets me off and it's getting annoying.

Might be worth examining what it is specifically that sets you off. You say anxiety but what specifically are you anxious about? I have the problem of crying (I hate crying in front of people) when I'm stuck in a social situation I'm really uncomfortable about because of how uncomfortable I am with it, and because I know I'm likely to cry, that makes me even more uncomfortable so it's a vicious circle. I've also noticed that in the social situations I tend to cry in are also the situations where I kind of have to stay still aka feel trapped in. I tend to move about a lot when I talk (especially when using a phone, I literally move around between different rooms) and that movement helps me stay calm (because I do suffer a little social anxiety) therefore when I can't move around, it does set me off.

Also crying is the naturally emotional response of letting others know that you need help or are in distress. (It was the whole point of the movie Inside Out. Sadness was kept away from the controls which meant that Riley was unable to display that she was unhappy and was putting on a "brave face". Only at the end of the movie when Sadness was allowed to take control was Riley able to cry which meant her parents could comfort her and help her feel better). Obviously a Pixar movie isn't scientific evidence of why people's emotions work the way they do, but the gist that it's okay to cry is an honest one. 🙂

What little things set you off? Is there a common factor?

There's no rhyme or rhythm to it. Sometimes there isn't even a trigger, I just start feeling teary. Or it's something totally random which doesn't even make sense.

Like I said, I used to get this a lot when I was suffering badly from PTSD and did have a lot of triggers. The smallest thing could set me off. These days it's a general state of unhappiness. Probably a mix of a lot of things. Unhappiness at work, constant stream of bad news from the media, not being able to see as many people etc.

I'll pull it together eventually. Just need to vent for now.

Maybe stop reading/watching/listening to the news? You'll know when the good news starts. Why are you unhappy at work?

It's ridiculously hard to avoid the news at the moment, between text alerts from the Governments, pop-ups on my work computer which won't disappear no matter how many times I block the sites, radio announcements and everyone talking and discussing current events.

I've been unhappy at work for a while now and was just starting to look for new employment when everything with COVID hit, making it impossible to leave my current position, as new job opportunities are scarce. My work has a really toxic and chaotic environment and all the Higher Ups are extremely tense and terse at the moment. I had last week off work, and it was wonderful, I felt much more relaxed and happy, but alas, all good things come to an end.
