Mental health

It's ridiculously hard to avoid the news at the moment, between text alerts from the Governments, pop-ups on my work computer which won't disappear no matter how many times I block the sites, radio announcements and everyone talking and discussing current events.

I've been unhappy at work for a while now and was just starting to look for new employment when everything with COVID hit, making it impossible to leave my current position, as new job opportunities are scarce. My work has a really toxic and chaotic environment and all the Higher Ups are extremely tense and terse at the moment. I had last week off work, and it was wonderful, I felt much more relaxed and happy, but alas, all good things come to an end.

What do you do for work?

I work in admin in Real Estate

I need to just focus on today, and what I can do today rather than tomorrow or next week

Grateful that the sun is out again today. Neighbours no longer running a deafening sander either. I've set up and used my weights a few times. Also taken up skipping in the garden. Trying to skip on the off beat is tough.

All keeping me in good spirits while I can't do the things I usually enjoy.

Do you live in a terraced house, semi-detatched or a detatched house? Having a shared wall makes revenge for that deafening sander a joy to behold, practising tennis or cricket on the adjoining wall can be fun.
been on lockdown for about a month now and even my introverted/lurker ass is losing it..

@nightshade in response to #103,
should I be the cheerful farmer, why not? My land bears no new growth yet it is often full of lush green meadows.
HOW?
I go to my neighbours farm in the dead of night to pull all his ripe new shoots that deserve to be at my farm.
In my house my wife and children have all left home, at night after plucking Mr. Grumpy's new shoots I err
play games with his wife and kids, in the morning I go back to my house and eat the breakfast that was made
for me. Yes I am Mr. Cheerful.
And when it comes time for the church to hold its Harvest Festival, boy, am I glad that Mr. Grumpy looks like
my twin brother. For if his new son has a 7th son I might have an unwanted response before I push up the Daisies.

Being awfully shy/anxious towards people, it's actually a relief to go outside with nearly no one around & outside being calm. In normal time, I don't go outside much mainly because of people but now that people are in quarantine, I would want to go out.

If you’re stuck with time to kill and are desperate for distraction, I recommend a game called Bakery Story.

It’s a time suck, for sure! But that’s the point, right?

If you decide to play, let me know if you need a neighbor. Getting good neighbors is the hardest part.

This is exactly the situation I'm dealing with right now!! And while our customers are generally pleasant, the majority of my coworkers are ignorant, gossipy, and extraordinarily insecure. Therefore, some are threatened by my excellent job performance and find little ways to "provoke" me. (They have absolutely no idea what a bad idea that is)

The fact that I'm bipolar, dealing with this bloody CORVID-19 situation, a broken thumb, a badly injured knee, AND the aforementioned coworkers is almost too much to bear. Yes, I'm a strong person, but I'm nearly at my breaking point. When I leave the house and see all these people with face masks on, it utterly depresses me. I went to Target today, and there was a LONG line outside to get in. So I went home straightaway. I was in tears because of EVERYTHING that's been happening.

Yeah, my job wouldn't be too bad if it wasn't for all the unnecessary stress. If it was just as it should be (IE: ringing up items, stocking & helping people), it would be a pretty good job with the pay & benefits. However, they want everyone's contact info, extra sales (memberships, warranties, more items, etc...) and it all has to be said and done just so. Then there's always the occasional (or more often depending on lots of variables) rude customer, or coworker. Then add in all this coronavirus insanity, and it can make the best of us want to 'climb a clock tower'. 😉

A good job at the hypermarket, counting all the placements of unnecessary stress. A guaranteed placement for you to keep your job.

I did some baking today since I have a lot of time on my hands. Made a whole load of cinnamon biscuits, which I'll have with my cups of tea. Tasty!

Ugh. I don't like the cinnaman. Did you use real cinnaman or like mass produced canned cinnaman?

I like cinnamon until someone gives me something with cinnamon in and then I realise I like the idea of cinnamon more than I do the taste. It catches me out every time. Cinnamon would be better if it was Ginger.

I think it were females who gave us sugar and spice and all things nice. Not so sure about Ginger and the Spice Girls though.

I am wondering if I might be able to enjoy the fresh cinnaman. Or if it makes a difference in the taste at all. Maybe fresh cinnaman tastes better than that other nasty crap they call cinnaman.

you ever have Ceylon or Saigon cinnamon?
I am doing much better 🙂

I miss my relatives and I miss my friends, but after 5 weeks of this I'm OK with not seeing them indefinitely, would definitely prefer a situation where I'd be allowed to invite someone to coffee or something but things could have been much worse...

I also realized that I don't miss some of the social things I was doing before the lockdown, but these things will return to my life once possible in order not to be seen as a complete hermit that barely comes out of her cave.

Now that some non essential places have reopened, I have some hope that one day things will be OK 🙂

@HowiMetdaSlayer "you ever have Ceylon cinnamon?"
That sounds like it would be cinnamon that would want to kill me to inherit the earth.

I doubt I've had either kind. I just thought cinnaman was cinnaman.

This is how it worked back in 1918. Every model of the spread of contagion has a double hump at least and this one has a minor third hump.

I don't see how actual deaths can be mistaken for government propaganda or control. This lasted four months whereas the current coronavirus could last a lot longer. We eventually had vaccines against influenza but we have yet to find a vaccine against any of the coronaviruses, including the common cold.

Just ground cinnamon from a wee jar, not too much. They're more buttery than cinnamony. What would you prefer in your biscuits?
