I believe there has been a plot holes, and a lot of misdirection concerning Xander and Dawn. ME seem to be beating us over the head with the "poor" weak Dawn story, and normal guy Xander. usually when they do that, we she look in the other direction. Dawn believe she not the slayer, because the Harbinger went after "Amanda", but I believe she is a sit, and if you look closely there seem to be holes in Amanda's story. ::nono1::

-When Amanda happen upon Dawn (I do not think it was a coincident) she said she was "coming from the school".

-the orange ball, pinned Dawn against the door. it did not go around her, or thru her, nor out the window. If Amanda was there at door where did she go?It stop, at Dawn, and glowed on her.[/i]instead of continueing.

--Amanda was walking towards Buffy house, if she had been there, wouldn't she have been walking "Away" from the house.😕

-When she told Dawn about her attack at school, she said she was "Thinking" of going to get Buffy.

-she fell to mention being at Buffy's house before, nor did she mention the orange glowy ball hitting her. (if she can talk about Vampires, you think she would have mention that)

-Amanda wanted to lure the vampire over to the marching band. (wicked)

-she told Dawn she had "Locked" the door, yet when Dawn arrive she found the door unlock. (if it was lock, Dawn would have had to unlock it)If the Vamp wanted out, the door would not have kept him in, nor the windows. so why was he still there? or snacking on the marching band?

Dawn could be a sit:

-A slayer relys on the resources around them. Dawn , not Amanda was the one to use the fire extinguisher to beat the vamp with.

-slayer should rely on there instinct. Dawn, not Amanda was the one to think of running, and moving something heavy onto the door.

-although, sits are not in full strength, they still are strong. Dawn was the one to move the hugh file cabinet in front of the door.

-a slayer should use everything she got. Dawn was the one who was throwing everything at the vamp. when this was happening where was "Amanda?
Why didn't the vamp go after her, instead of Dawn?

all the time Amanda was with Dawn, she acted like she couldn't fight. she did not even try to help. ( what was she doing at the school at night, anyway?)

When the Harbinger came in, and went for Amanda, why didn't they try to kill her? When we had seen them killing sit before, they never took that much time. Amanda did not even put up a fight, there was hardly a struggle. (actually, I do not remember her screaming , nor fighting back) It was as if she was waiting for something.(did the harbinger know there were two people in the room?)It was Dawn, who set them on fire. Amanda didn't really start to fight until Dawn gave her the flag pole weapon, or was it after she had an audience.? (Xander and Buffy ). I believe we were misdirected ( another red herring) to believe that Dawn "isn't a sit, only to find out later on,that she actually is one.::dk::

Note: M.E has been beating us over the head with Xander is a normal guy, a whole lot lately.(big anvil) I believe that might be another misdirection. his speech at the end, of the episode to Dawn was very touching, and the best Xander moment, since the "Zeppo". :: red :: :: red :: :: red ::

Very good thoughts. It did very well seem they were showcasing Dawn possesed the abilities Buffy was describing. The thing is Dawn has been around the supernatural gig long enough she out to have picked up some stuff ability along the way. One Vamp shouldn't overly freak her out, she's dealt with them before. This episode she demonstrated great stupidity and great resourcefulness. Hmm.. reminds me of her sister when she was 16 😀

As far as Amanda should be walking away from Buffy's house not towards it. That can be easily explained. She very easily could have been freaked out by the orange stink ball and took off like a mouse on the middle of the interstate. Then realizes that her only real option to explain these weird occurances are indeed Buffy. On the flip side, I would have thought she'd have told Dawn right off "I was going to see Buffy".

I do very much agree with you we are being given a very large dose of the mis-direction. There have just been so many holes in the plot over the last few weeks.

I'm not sure why Spike didn't want her to see his chest. I understand he probably still has the markings the Bringers left carved inside him. But Buffy saw those when she rescued him, so what's the big deal? Secondly why are Buffy and Dawn both saying Buffy has to die for someone to be called when we very well all know that's not the case. Buffy's part is easy to explain by saying she is just trying to make a point with the SIT's. But Dawn's? Can't think of a dam thing to explain why she'd say such a thing other than she demonstrated "Great Stupidity this episode".

My last rant has to deal with them putting the SIT's by themselves against a Vamp. Ok they should win with sheer numbers I will give them that much. Buffy softened the vamp up quite a bit as well. I'd love to see them thrown up against someone like Spike/Angelus, they'd all be drained by now. They just don't make vamps like they used to. Guess you have to be part of the Masters bloodline to be worthwhile at the whole gig.

i didn't see the ep yet...but

xander needs more relevence...he needs an episode like zeppo where he kicks ass...lays some smack down...and bone someone...preferably if he gets over faith trying to pull a masicist role...bone faith....

and even if dawn isn't a sit...dawn is more of a threat then all of the other sit combined...although there setting it up for dawn to be a slayer...

The thing I was confused at was the way Amanda was dressed. Talk about age-inappropriate! What was that? How many gawky, rail-thin teenage girls wear super-tight tops with no bra? It was just ridiculous--that's something an older, very liberal woman would do--certainly not a suburban girl who has no idea whether she's coming or going.

Anyway, the rest of the stuff mentioned was kind of weird, but I just went with it.

I'm not sure why Spike didn't want her to see his chest. I understand he probably still has the markings the Bringers left carved inside him. But Buffy saw those when she rescued him, so what's the big deal

I don't think the problem was so much that Spike didn't want Buffy to see his chest as he didn't want her to be touching him. Not because he didn't like it, but because he liked it a little too much.

When I saw the energy ball pin Dawn against the door, the "glowiness" seemed to me to go *into* or *through* the door, though Dawn was still pinned.

As for anything Amanda does or says, she's clearly a flake. But then, when Buffy was called, she was a ditsy cheerleader.

Amanda's clothes may have been age-inapproprate, but a lot of teens dress that way because it makes them feel older and sexier. (When I was in high school, half the girls looked like 30-year-old divorcees on the prowl.) A definite failure in Amanda's case, IMHO.

But there's no reason *both* Dawn and Amanda can't be SITs, is there? The coven's information seems pretty spotty. And as for the whole SIT concept, there's no guarantee *any* of the ones we've met will be the one to be called. Misdirection, indeed.

I was thinking the same thing that you mentioned. I mean it could very well have been that since both girls were there then the orange glow spell thing could have found both of them. Like it was half on dawn and half on the other one.

Besides the story line has been hinting all this time that something big was going to happen with dawn. All the times the camera pans on her distressed face when their conversations involving the sits. That couldnt have all been geared up for this one episode...

Yeah, I was thinking that they were both SITs as well. (of course, at first I thought that Amanda was The First... until she brushed by Dawn outside that time... she was tangible. Too bad, I didn't like her.)

I wonder sometimes.... does Dawn WANT to be an SIT? sometimes she seems to, but when she thought she was, she freaked out. But then, she seemed to accept it rather quickly, though her natural stupidity shone right though...

Yeah I caught that part at the end. I saw that crap and it was gay. buffy dissing her sister like that. i would enjoy her on angel after this show ends. Dawn and Xander could go to LA and hook up with Angel. They could go find out where Hank Summers disappeared to. Deadbeat dad!
Yeah, I hope those other SIT's get whats coming to them. Except for Kennedy, she needs some action with Willow.

I think that the whole Xander/Dawn speech at the end -- especially on Xander's part -- is going somewhere. They wouldn't have stuck it in there for no reason. And I think that all of the stuff Dawn did while fighting the vampire.. well, they were showing it as Buffy was saying it. So, I think it kind of means that Dawn has obviously picked up the traits of a Slayer by observing her sister (and being part of her), and though she's not an SIT, she'll still be good with the fighting when it comes to a battle.

-When Amanda happen upon Dawn (I do not think it was a coincident) she said she was "coming from the school".

Yes she was coming from the school, and went to get Buffy because she think that Buffy knows this kind of stuff which she also stated later.

-the orange ball, pinned Dawn against the door. it did not go around her, or thru her, nor out the window. If Amanda was there at door where did she go?It stop, at Dawn, and glowed on her.[/i]instead of continueing.

It left a shimmering light after passing throug her, it didnt stay at her.

--Amanda was walking towards Buffy house, if she had been there, wouldn't she have been walking "Away" from the house.😕

She was walking away from it, she was at the backside of it. Since Dawn snuck out from the back window, on the back of the house.

-When she told Dawn about her attack at school, she said she was "Thinking" of going to get Buffy.

Yes because she explained this, she said some people thought Buffy was a high schizophrenic girl but she thought she knew this kind of stuff.

-she fell to mention being at Buffy's house before, nor did she mention the orange glowy ball hitting her. (if she can talk about Vampires, you think she would have mention that)

Maybe she was still unsure Dawn believed her and didnt wanna seem like a freak?

-Amanda wanted to lure the vampire over to the marching band. (wicked)

A joke?

-she told Dawn she had "Locked" the door, yet when Dawn arrive she found the door unlock. (if it was lock, Dawn would have had to unlock it)If the Vamp wanted out, the door would not have kept him in, nor the windows. so why was he still there? or snacking on the marching band?

She might have locked the door, the vampire unlocked it and waited for them to arrive so it could have a little snack.

Dawn could be a sit:

-A slayer relys on the resources around them. Dawn , not Amanda was the one to use the fire extinguisher to beat the vamp with.

Anybody can do that, I can do that and im no slayer.

-slayer should rely on there instinct. Dawn, not Amanda was the one to think of running, and moving something heavy onto the door.

Thats cause Amanda, much like Annabelle when she was killed and all the other SITs when they were training at the cemetary didnt know what to do cause they werent feeling ready or something.

-although, sits are not in full strength, they still are strong. Dawn was the one to move the hugh file cabinet in front of the door.

How do you know it was her? She had trouble and struggle until Amanda came pushing it.

-a slayer should use everything she got. Dawn was the one who was throwing everything at the vamp. when this was happening where was "Amanda?
Why didn't the vamp go after her, instead of Dawn?

Because Dawn was closest?

all the time Amanda was with Dawn, she acted like she couldn't fight. she did not even try to help. ( what was she doing at the school at night, anyway?)

She was afraid, in shock, terrified - I know I would be.

They came in and grabbed her and it had to be done slow so Dawn could react and save her by setting them on fire. And when Amanda received the pole there was a boost in her self-confidence about being "special". And she was lead by her instincts when fighting the vampire to finally dust it.

I think you should pay more attention to the plots 😉 A lot of you should!

Raz, I think you misunderstood some of her points.

Princess said that Amanda was "thinking" about going to Buffy's house. She didn't think about going; she did go. Which brings us the next point brought up, where Amanda felt comfortable talking about vampires, but not the magic involved in the orange ball. You don't find these facts a little strange? She felt comfortable confiding in Dawn about vampires, but not about the ball, or about going to her house? Uh, that's a little strange. It's not impossible--it's just improbable.

Also, for Dawn to run into Amanda, she would have had to leave her back window and go to street facing her backyard, and then backtrack all the way around. First off, that's just kind of silly. Second, why would she head back to her house? Third, she would have had to go through her neighbor's yard, over a fence. We saw through the episode "Seeing Red", that her backyard faces a fence. You're saying she climbed over it to get to the street in back of it? That's...odd.

About the locked door, I think it's doubtful that the vamp would have assumed a frightened teenage girl who's bleeding and disoriented would have returned to kill him--that was my main problem with it. But it's possible that he thought she would senf for reinforcements, maybe the police. I don't know why she said that she locked the door--she would have had to have a key for that. But she could have gotten a hold one, it's not impossible. Much of her story that night went untold. The vamp could have broken the lock by just turning it hard, like Buffy has done in the past. I think with Amanda's story, it was so vague that assuming there are holes in it is kind of silly, because there wasn't enough story there to poke holes through.

Double Post (next time use the edit button!):

Oh and my explaination for Amanda is that Dawn left her house, and met up with Amanda, who is bleeding, confused, and obviously and idiot. She had just been attacked by a vampire, and struck by a blinding orange spell. That she would be wandering around in circles could hardly come as a shock to anyone. Or maybe she decided to get up the nerve to find Buffy again. I've wandered neighborhoods for reasons far less compelling than that.

I think you guys are looking just a tad deep into the events of Dawn running into Amanda lol

Next thing we know someone's going to be posting physic's equations to explain it. Give it a rest 😀

The lead post that created this thread is about Dawn and Amanda. What else should we be discussing here, world peace?

Well if you feel like talking about world peace I suggest you start another topic. I'm merely pointing out we're diving a little deep into the whole "How did Dawn meet up with Amanda behind her house" discussion. No matter how much we analyze it and determine it's not possible, obviously it was because she did.

So instead of flaming me, how bout you develop a sense of humor.

Maybe you'll allow us to determine how "deep" into the show we get--is that okay? This is precisely what the board is here for. Someone made a thread about something very specific for an episode. It's clear, it's labeled, and now we're talking about it. Not to be rude, but maybe when people want to discuss things, you can just let them use the board as it was intended. If you think the thread is too specific, I understand, but there are plenty of other threads here, okay?

I like the "Amanda's an incoherent flake and is either pacing back and forth or wandering in circles" theory, myself.
