Mh,

over the weekend I watched a couple of films. First of all "Marie Antionette" and I came to the conclusion it's a film with nice pictures and everything, but in a way it really lacked something. I'm not too sure whether it's a plot or something else, but it just seemed too distant, but in a weird way, just this very style also kind of gives the film a personally for me way more interestung sub-plot. Maybe the film will grow on me with time passing by.

So anyway, yesterday I watched "The Strangers". A horror movie, but it wasn't that scary. There were some quite scary moments and everything but it didn't freak me really out. But maybe I'm not allowing my brain to let it sink in, that this is just more than a film, ever since Blair Witch ^^ So it's quite okay and not overly bloody, but yeah, it's not that great a film. And then afterwards I watched the first half of "SAW IV" and I really thought it too disgusting. It shows things, that are not really scary but just really yuck. Urgh. And plotwise, well mh, I'm not too sure, have to see the rest, but yeah.
 
I just saw Slumdog Millionaire.

OK, I get it, its a feel good film and I felt good so in that sense it does what its meant to, but I was expecting it to be amazing.

I know you should never go see a movie with a preconceived notion but this film, everyone in the whole world has told me, 'You will find this absolutely amazing'.

I liked it alright, I liked elements of it (FYI, in no country is Millionaire filmed live because it prevents cheats!) and even laughed when I was supposed to laugh but there was nothing 'amazing'. I actually found it quite predictable.
In a way, feel good films should be predictable because you need the happy ending so I won't hold that too much against it.

One of the things that we were supposed to think about this was its epic tale set in India.
My problem - take away the scenes of India itself, which didn't really add much to the story, and you could have transplanted that story to any major city in the world.
Manchester pre and post the regeneration, Liverpool during the last recession or Newcastle during the strikes.
It wasn't a story I haven't seen before.

Like I said, I liked it alright and I loved the music, but to be quite honest, the hype for this film made me think while I was walking out that if I don't say its amazing, I'm gonna come off as prejudiced against it.
 
i saw yes man which i thought was pretty much crap except for the role of Norman who was awesome.

Also saw role models which i thought was crude but it really was a great funny movie with a good message.
 
For the first time that I can remember, not only am I excited about the prospect of seeing a film at the cinema, I am excited about seeing FIVE.

Well, four now that I've seen Slumdog Millionaire (which is excellent except for the terrible mushy Hollywood ending).
 
I haven't seen any movies this year so far, but I really want to see these movies:

Bride Wars
Changeling
Confessions of a Shopoholic
Doubt
Revolutionary Road
Slumdog Millionaire
The Reader

I probably won't see these anytime soon, so I guess I'll just wait for the DVD releases.
 
I saw Frost/Nixon last night.

I actually really liked it, though it made Richard Nixon a little bit more sympathetic than I reckon it should.

I laughed a fair bit too and there was not one performance I didn't enjoy.
Definitely recommend it.
 
Star Trek 11 had better be good. Terminator 4 also coming. Either they will be great or they will stink. I think there is no middle ground with these.

I'm a little more optimistic of Star Trek after seeing a new Trailer at the cinema that ends with an amazing sequence involving
Leonard Nimoy

One of my issues with the film is that there seems to be something between Uhuru and Kirk - I don't like that at all because it devalues the series relationship and that infamous kiss.
 
I saw Underworld: Rise of the Lycans recently.

That was, ummm, interesting.

I also, last night, saw The Curious Tale of Forrest Gump...I mean Benjamin Button.

It was 3 hours long!
It was alright but with a different malady and time frame it was the same story!

I'm cautiously holding my breath for Benjamin Button, though the angle they're taking the film is pretty original. Plus, I loathe Brad Pitt.. I know, I can be painfully dense.

Friday the 13th, going to see that this weekend with a group of friends. Oh crap, I can remember how much the original scared me when I was little! Right now, I'm trying to avoid stereotyping it as a 'failure to-be classic remake' as if I was to catch a plague! Better be epic, just saying.
 
Relic, my friend who loved the other films and liked this.

I liked the others and found this 'interesting'.

It wasn't that it was a bad film, I'm pleased I saw it BUT I will never watch it again, its just SO long.
And the only thing original is the fact he is aging backwards, as I said, everything else is pretty much what you see in Forrest Gump, from a lonely man with a disability, travelling the world trying to find a place in it, a girl he loves from childhood that sporadically meet and have a will they/won't they.
Other stuff I could say that I won't because it would be a spoiler but seriously, there isn't anything new in this really.

Grand Torino
Watchman (With fingers crossed)
Milk (Bit surprised that no one has mention this)
 
I want to see the Wrestler! Don't ask me why, but I quite like Mickey rourke and what I've seen of it so far looks good.
Apart from that, I wouldn't really know. Whereas last years I was always making lists of films I wanted to see or rent on dvd or whatever, this year I sort of didn't. I don't have money to go see them in the theatre anyway, so I'll have to wait till they come out on dvd so I can, erm, buy them. (Okay, that sounded weird but I feel that paying up to 10, 12 euro to see a film once and maybe not even like it is a waste of money, you know?)
 
Going to see the curious case of Benjamin Button next week i can't actually wait! Its looks like a great film and i don't really like Brad Pitt that much so for me to like it is pretty big. 😀

I'm looking forward to seeing Veronika Decides to die as well.
 
Today I saw Gran Torino.

Normally, I wouldn't single members out and just suggest that everyone sees this film, but while I think MOST people would find this a good film, White Avenger and StuckinTraffic, I cannot urge you guys enough to see this awesome movie.

Having seen your personal likes over the years, I truly believe you will think this Clint Eastwood movie is awesome.

Is IS on my list, has been since I saw the trailers for it.
I recently went to see both Slumdog Millionair and He's Just Not That Into You.

GOt to say i was really disappointed with SM, i read so many good reviews but it fell short of the mark for me...on the other hand i enjoyed HJNTIY, it was a nice easy story line that you could follow with out trying too hard, a nice rom com for a sunday afternoon 😀

I was talking about this in chat earlier but honestly, i think this is one of the greatest movies he has ever done.

I dont say that lightly as a movie fan or a CE fan, but the depth of his racist/heroic/bastard character that he portrays is truly inspirational.

Im now searching for a movie that can inspire me the way this movie did. I'll be honest...
when he sacrificed himself with a lighter instead of a gun, that was one the THE most tearbreaking pieces of cinema i have seen in a LONG time.

I'm right there with you.

I have to say that the spoilers we are placing are pretty much WHOPPERS so please don't read if you don't want the film ruined (see SiT - I wouldn't have done that 2 years ago!)

I've rarely been close to tears in a movie, but after the rape and him sitting in his house, crying to him letting himself die - it was a sucker punch the likes of which I haven't felt before

Ohhh but the thing was, I laughed so bleeding hard up to the spoilered bits, he was brilliant.
I absolutely loved the female character, she started as a stereotype and won me over with her sass.
 
Push - What a pile of shite!
There was no point to any of it!

Franklyn - I was REALLY looking forward to this film and I was unbelievably disappointed. Again, it was pointless. The storylines felt forced together and they absolutely missed a trick with connecting the stories!

Watchmen - Sadly I fell asleep in this film.
Now, what I saw was amazing BUT the problem was that I had just done an all nighter the night before and the film was quite long. I will go see this again. Luckily I have read the comic so I know the story!

Bronson - This film was a revelation!
Tom Hardy spends alot of the film naked and for that alone its worth watching but its hilarious.
I do have one issue that it glorifies Charles Bronson (the criminal not the actor) who is in actuality a VERY bad man.
