Hey guys, this is my first attempt at writing any kind of fan-fiction, and yes, of course it had to be for Buffy (one of my favourite shows, along with Angel)

I hope you take the time to check it out. There's plenty more of where this came from, as I've got loads of time on my hands and I'm really enjoying writing the story.

Enjoy!

_______________

Buffy was staring at the ceiling. Her hair was long, blonde and loose around her shoulders. She looked around idly, letting out a contented sigh. She was pretty comfy, stretched out on Angel's red-brown sofa bed that was in his apartment. She'd been taking in his place one day, as if for the first time, when she suddenly realised how aside from the bed that was there, there wasn't really any suitable seating to be had in Angel's place of abode. All the same, she loved being at Angel's, whether he was there or not. Obviously she preferred it when he was there, but he did have this tendency to take off without warning. At this time, she was wearing her brown heeled shoes, tight-fitting jeans and a white top. The cross that always adorned her chest was present; it comforted her to wear it. At was at this moment, running her hands through her smooth blonde hair, that she decided that that was one thing about Angel that she liked less about him, him taking off so much. She enjoyed being with him so much when they were together. What a paradox to be faced with. He was the love of her life, of that she had no doubt. She never had any doubts about that. She decided that when he got back, or whenever they saw each other next, wherever that was, she would speak with him about him not leaving her on her own as much. She was perfectly fine in her own skin, and of course being the Slayer meant that she certainly knew how to take care of herself. But her heart yearned to with Angel at all times, and she realised that she even felt somewhat dissatisfied that he didn't seem to want to spend all of his time with her.

Buffy started to twiddle her thumbs as she anxiously wondered where he might have gotten to. She decided that she wouldn't prolong the agony any more as she waited for him. With a sigh, in one motion she gently rose from the sofa bed and grabbed her black leather coat off of the rack. It wasn't cold outside per se, but she wasn't sure when or if she'd be going back to Angel's so she took it with her all the same. With that, she opened the door to his apartment and strode off toward the outside world.

As was usual for Buffy, she was walking through the graveyard to get to the Bronze. The trees were stirring with a very slight breeze (there was rarely much wind in Sunnydale so to see that was nice she thought) and the moon was out offering its modicum of light from it's half-crescent. Her footsteps made very little sound as she padded across all too familiar paths, weaving between the gravestones and mausoleums. Hearing a loud grunt, suddenly she was set upon, a leaping figure appearing from her right. Buffy looked at the guy, face disfigured and reached inside her jacket for the stake that she knew was there. The vamp swung and missed, Buffy reaching around his neck with her left arm from behind to clamp him in a rear chinlock as it were. Buffy had never been a massive wrestling fan, but she certainly would have made for a great wrestler that's for sure. With that, she brought her right hand with the stake firmly down into the vampire's chest just as he let out a tormented growl and disappeared from her grip, turning to brown ashes. Buffy dusted herself down as she felt her heart get back to its normal level after the rush of adrenaline that it had experienced. In a way, it was always good to get in a staking or two to really get her going for an evening, as this was something she had both experienced before and become accustomed to. And of course, she was both built for it and extremely good at it. Killing vampires added to the inherent excitement of her day-to-day existence, and her nights just never seemed to have that sense of completion unless she did get in a slaying or two. She realised she was kinda hot after the fight, so she decided to take off her leather jacket and to carry it the rest of the way to the Bronze. She had no idea who she might see there, or indeed if she would see any of her friends, but the music was generally good and she fancied a drink. And anyway she decided, a slight niggling twinge strumming a chord in her heart, if Angel could take off without warning without her and go wherever, well, then she'd be damned if anything was going to stop her going out also and doing as she please. Hell, maybe Angel was at the Bronze (though she doubted that). His melancholy demeanour and character usually stuck out like a sore thumb at a raucous club like the Bronze, so it tended to be a place he avoided.

Buffy had heard and been attracted to the sound of the live music from a fair distance away as she handed over the cover charge to the bouncer. As she entered, the lights on the ceiling of the club lit up her countenance and posture, as she placed her jacket on a table nearby and sat on a stool.

“Gee, will anyone buy me a drink tonight?” she muttered aloud to herself.

Just then, out of her peripheral vision, a dark-haired form appeared and put her a drink on the table in front of her.

“Vodka cocktail” the stranger said.

“Hey thanks! But, you really shouldn't have, I was just going to go to the bar to get one for myself.”

“Hey, no worries. A beautiful lady like you should never have to buy her own drinks” the man said charmingly in response.

He was not too dissimilar in looks to Angel; tall, with dark hair and a strong frame, but still, like Angel he seemed a bit older than her and Buffy was a little uncomfortable at the thought of sitting at a table drinking with anyone other than her friends or Angel.

“So, I take it you live in Sunnydale?” “My name's Henk by the way.”

“Um, yes as a matter of fact I do. Not far from here actually on Rebello Drive” Buffy replied.

Henk gave her a reassuring smile and replied “Ah, and what a wonderful place this is. But hey, at least on the bright side we've got The Bronze, and the bands here are usually pretty good.”

Buffy smiled, and said “Yeah, you know my friends and I come here all the time. It really is one of the only places for kids to socialize, and you know what you're right, the music is pretty good considering.”

At that, Buffy took a long sip of her drink and turned her attention to the stage. It was all in lights, as the band “Sprung Monkey” bounced around and moshed like madmen to their tunes, the audience that was dancing away seeming to dig them.

“Hey, have you seen this band before? I think they're called 'Sprung Monkey'. They played here last year. It was a hell of a night for me, but I really shouldn't, or can't talk about it. At least I'd rather not. The band's cool though” Buffy implored.

“You know what I don't think I've previously seen them, but I was wondering, do you wanna dance with me? What's your name by the way?” Henk then asked, idly stroking the dark stubble on his chin as he checked out the band on the stage.

Buffy turned to look at Henk and took in his handsome features as if for the first time. She said “My name's Buffy. And yes, you know what. I feel like dancing tonight” she replied, giving him a vivacious smile.

Henk then stood up and took her by the hand. Before she left the table, Buffy quickly downed the rest of her drink and together they made their way to the dance floor, weaving between a few of the crowd to get more to the front of the stage.

Their bodies moved in tandem to the beat, as the loud tones of 'Sprung Monkey' filled the club. They smiled at each other as Buffy wrapped her arms around Henk's neck. He was a good dancer, albeit a little bit shaky at first, but he quickly got into the rhythm.

Angel had had Buffy on his mind all night. Having left the apartment, he'd been sitting on a familiar hill writing poetry and drawing pictures of Buffy in his notebook. He had half a dozen such books back at his apartment, and most of their content centred around Buffy. She was after all, his muse, and he'd spent a good hour or so just thinking about their relationship as he jotted down his thoughts in poetic form and drawing her. Really he was just pining for her, but of course, she wasn't to know that.

The sun had long gone down by now of course, as Angel walked through the streets toward the entrance of the Bronze. He'd acknowledged the familiar bouncer with a quick smile and nod as he then pushed open the entrance door. With a quick scan of the club, at first sight he couldn't place her but her familiar, pleasant scent was strong here so he at least knew that she was to be found here somewhere. He got to the table with her coat, following the scent, and then at once his eyes were drawn to the dance floor. The music was pretty loud at this point, but Angel as it turned out didn't really care much for 'Sprung Monkey'. The point was hammered home when he finally caught sight of Buffy, bopping happily away. But, to his dismay, when she turned around, he saw that she was dancing with some other dude; a big, strong, tall looking guy who seemed to be busy jerking away to the upbeat music.

If it had been beating, Angel knew that his heart would have skipped a beat in his chest, but the effect was there all the same, which he felt. He turned and walked around to the table, placing his notebook next to Buffy's leather coat. Angel, despite being surrounded by happy people, was now not in a good place, as his thoughts took a darker turn. “Who is that guy, and what's Buffy doing dancing with him?” he wondered to himself. The thought that Buffy could like or be attracted to anyone other than him stung him, and incited the inherently jealous aspect of Angel's internal character more than he'd like. This had happened before, that time she'd danced with Xander back when 'Cibo Matto' had been playing at The Bronze on that fateful night, which now seemed to be lost to the aeons of time.

His melancholic brooding was interrupted, however, when Buffy came bounding across happily to the table, after having made her way through the outskirts of the people in the audience, who were still jumping and dancing away to the band. Henk was in hot pursuit, holding on to one of Buffy's arms as she dragged him away from the floor to the table where Angel was.

Upon seeing Angel, she immediately let go of Henk and wrapped her arms around Angel's neck, mounting him and instantly planting gentle, imploring kisses around his neck.

“Hey you” she said as she looked up to stare into Angel's dark, chocolate brown eyes, the eyes of her one true love that she loved so much.

At that, Angel stood, glancing at Henk, placing Buffy forcibly yet gently back on her feet. He was clearly uncomfortable as he said to Buffy, “You've been drinking” as he smelt the vodka on her breath.

“Hey, just a little” Buffy responded, looking as innocent as she could as she looked up at him coyly. “I just wanted to come here for a little fun, and hey, look who I ran into!” she said excitedly.

She turned to Henk, bringing him closer to the table, then turned back to Angel saying, “Angel, meet Henk, he's a new friend I met here tonight”.

At that, Henk stuck out a firm hand in Angel's direction, a proud American-style smile decorating his features. Maybe he worked in business, but he really could have been a male model for all Buffy knew, musing to herself.

Angel in turn met Henk's gaze, a slight coldness in his demeanour as he said “Pleased to meet you”. Turning away from his apparent rival for her affection, chords of angst still plaguing his heart, Angel's gaze flicked back passed Buffy as he said to her, “I'd better go, I didn't know you'd be here making new friends.”

“Hey wait, honey” Buffy pleaded, grabbing Angel's wrist. “I honestly and truly just wanted to see you tonight.”

Sensing the immediate tension, Henk stammered out “Hey guys, I can see this is an awkward situation. Maybe I'm the one who'd better leave.”

“Hey, no, Henk, I really don't see why the three of us can't just stay and enjoy ourselves. I know, hey Henk why don't you go to the bar and see if you can get us all a round of drinks. That'll give Angel and enough time to re-acquaint?” Buffy suggested.

“Okay, sure thing” Henk replied. With that, Henk stood up and left, the scent of his cologne wafting in Buffy's direction as she turned back to Angel.

“Hey love, don't be that way” she said as she absorbed the look of disapproval on Angel's face.

Moving closer to him, she told Angel “My reasons for coming to the Bronze were entirely innocent, you can trust me on that.”

Angel's continued look of discomfort was not what Buffy wanted to see, so she said “Angel, sweetie, you can trust me.

The music was playing loudly now, and seeing that she was getting through to him, Buffy put her arms around his neck and kissed his cheek. “See, I like you. You're the one I want Angel, Henk's just a friend” she said as she looked up at him.

At this, Angel's defences seem to lower somewhat as he gently brought her face toward him and caressed her cheek with his fingers. “I just want it to be us Buffy, you and me. I just think that's the way it should be. At least for now. I want to be with you.”

“And hey, you are, right now” Buffy replied. “We're together, and that's all that matters.” “Angel” Buffy said gently into his ear, her face close to his, “can I ask you something?”

“Of course you can” Angel said.

“The next time I wake up in your apartment, I want you to be in it. I really don't like it when you take off without a moment's notice, and I can't seem to find you.”

Angel looked at her again. “Buffy, you know I just needed some time to myself, you know to think and take stock of where we are in our relationship. Never before have I loved you so much or ever had the pleasure of knowing that feeling for anyone else. Its a lot to take in at times. Just being around you makes me wonder what I can offer you, whether I'm worthy or something like that.”

At this, seemingly on cue, 'Sprung Monkey' launched into another tune and Buffy almost laughed as she caught sight of Henk making his way back to their table with a tray of their drinks. She took in Angel's countenance and reassured him, saying “of course you're worthy silly, who do you think I think about all the time? Who do you think I love the most in this world? Its you honey, and let me tell you it always will be.” She pulled closer to kiss his mouth and he drank it in, her soft lips playing a chorus in his beautiful soul that only the choirs of heaven could have composed. “Okay Buffy. Just know that I love you, and I never mean to hurt you. Even if sometimes its hard for me to take in the magnitude of our relationship and what it means to me, just know I never want it to hurt you, not if I can help it.”

Buffy then looked up at him and smiled for her love. “Okay sweetheart, you're totally forgiven” moving in again to kiss his mouth passionately this time.

At this, Henk moved in, placing their drinks on the table. “Ah, I see things are a little better here since I went away. Maybe I should take that as a sign?” he said with a slight, charming smile.

Buffy turned to look at him, pulling away from Angel's embrace. “Nah, its cool Henk, and hey, thanks for the drinks. Say, hey is this one for me?”

Henk nodded grimly in the affirmative. “Well, I saw how much you seemed to enjoy the first one so I figured another one for the evening couldn't hurt.”

“And how right you were” Buffy said as she took a swig of her cocktail.

A little while later, the three of them (Angel, Buffy and Henk) were walking outside back to Angel's place. Buffy's arm was interlocked with Angel's, and her head rested on his tall frame as they walked in silence. She was a little woozy with booze by this point, but she had enjoyed her evening all the same and ultimately being with Angel was all that mattered to her.

“So guys, I guess this is my turn to get off. I'll be sure to see you around sometime. And Buffy, it has been a lovely evening, and it was so wonderful to meet you.”

Giving him a warm embrace, despite his apparent tallness, Buffy said “Sure Henk, and you know what, I had a nice time too. We should hook up soon and do something.”

“Okay sweetheart, sure thing, you bet.” With that, Henk walked over to where his car was parked and got in, his strong frame easing into the driver's seat.

Now alone, as they gazed into each other's eyes, Buffy and Angel were to hear two honks of a horn as the only car on the road drifted out of their vision.

Buffy turned to look at him and say, “I love you Angel” It was all she could muster.

“I know the feeling” was his response. They kissed and then embraced like that for a long time, as the moon shone its light and the cars in the distance were to be heard, morning not so far away.

It was getting late now, and Buffy could feel the need for sleep, as she felt her alcohol infused evening of dancing, music and conversation catching up with her. Her night was coming to a close, but it wasn't quite over yet.

“Shall we go to your place?” she looked up at Angel imploringly.

“Of course, you're always welcome to sleep at my apartment. Let's go” Angel said.

Say, hey, is this one for me?”

Henk nodded grimly in the affirmative. “Well, I saw how much you seemed to enjoy the first one so I figured another one for the evening couldn't hurt.”

“And how right you were” Buffy said as she took a deep slug of her cocktail.

A little while later, the three of them (Angel, Buffy and Henk) were walking outside back to Angel's place. Buffy's arm was interlocked with Angel's, and her head rested on his tall frame as they walked in silence. Only their footsteps made any sound. Buffy was a little woozy with booze by this point, but she had enjoyed herself that evening all the same and ultimately being with Angel was all that mattered to her.

Now alone, as they turned to gaze into each other's loving eyes, Buffy and Angel were to hear two honks of a horn as the only car on the road drifted out of their periphery.

Buffy then turned to look at her man and say, “I love you Angel” It was all she could muster.

“I know the feeling” was his response. They kissed, then embraced like that for a long time, as the moon shone its light and the cars in the distance were to be heard, morning not so far away.

It was getting late now, and Buffy could feel the need for sleep, as she felt her alcohol infused evening of dancing, music and conversation catching up with her. Her night was coming to a close, but it wasn't quite over yet.

“Hey, I know, shall we go to your place?” she asked Angel, looking up at him imploringly.

“Of course, you're always welcome to sleep at my apartment. Let's go” Angel said.

Buffy awoke in Angel's arms, her eyes slowly opening to the morning's light. Waking up with Angel in her bed was one of life's pleasures, given that most of her time was either spent at school or worrying about demons. She just surrendered herself to being so close to him, breathing in his fragrance and moved to enwrap his strong frame with her petite form. In reciprocation, as if to complement the moment, Buffy could see a flicker of strong sunlight just behind the enclosed curtains.

“Morning sleepyhead” Angel said with a smile as Buffy looked up at him, her head leaning on his chest. Half of her body was on his for the most part.

“Morning love” Buffy said in response. She wrapped an arm firmly around him, closing her eyes again as she basked in the radiance of his form, slightly cool to the touch though it was. After an initial hesitancy, she had now gotten used to Angel's no-body heat thing.

The night they'd spent before had been pretty hectic. First, they'd spent the night at the Bronze and met Henk. She thought that he'd been pretty cool with her, particularly for a stranger. At least he was kind enough to pay her some attention and buy her a drink; at least that counted for something.

Buffy was beginning to feel at home in Angel's apartment. When you were in love with someone to the degree that Buffy was with Angel, and you spent a lot of time in the place that he lived, it was difficult to distinguish where home really was, though she still lived with her mother, technically.

“I love you, baby” she purred to Angel, as she stroked his torso. Angel wasn't actually wearing anything, and his heart fluttered (despite not beating) at the thought of the true happiness that this moment offered, and could afford. So many of the moments he spent with Buffy bordered on true happiness, and he seemed constantly in a battle as to where to draw the line. That had been one of the thoughts that had been plaguing him when he had left her back in the flat yesterday evening.

“I thought you'd never wake up today sweetheart; I've been watching you” he replied to her with a smile.

Buffy stirred, opening her eyes to look up at him. It warmed her heart watching her lover smile. “You've been watching me? For how long?”

“Just watching... just know that I also love you. You will always have me Buffy, at your side, throughout anything that could possibly happen.”

“Mmmm, I like the sound of that” Buffy said softly as she moved her form across his body to play with Angel's nipple. “So what d'you want to do today sweetheart? Its a Sunday. That means school's out.”

Angel smiled as he considered. “Any day with you is beautiful honey, you know that. But, my guess is that you're mom is probably wondering where you are, am I not right?”

“Heyyy, I told her that if I ever don't come home on a night, that I'd be staying at yours” Buffy retorted, a very slight indignation playing across her graceful features. “And anyway, I gave her your new phone number, so we have absolutely nothing to worry about.”

Angel leaned forward slightly and kissed Buffy's forehead before gently stroking her hair with his hand. “We have a phone here? When did that happen, and why didn't you tell me?”

Buffy smiled. “Oh, well I figured since I'd be staying here a lot I'd call an electrician to install one. It was no big deal and I managed to get it done real quick, so you need not to worry”.

“Okay, my love” Angel smiled, once again closing his eyes as he basked in the radiance of being in close proximity to his life's one true love.

I love fanfic and I know how difficult it is to start and to finish, so well done! Hope you continue.
Hey, thanks for the words of encouragement. I've actually just improved (edited) and extended the story a little bit this evening. I wrote all this in one day, and tomorrow I imagine I will be continuing to add to the story, I've got a few ideas. Hope you enjoy! 🙂

A couple of things to take notice of, are how the words fit together - and are read. Also of concern is the overall look of your story. Lots of single lines, to me, looks disjointed and I find them hard to read, I use two three or four lines normally. Something advised by Mr. Pointy. But you should decide which way to do yours.

[EDITED AND EXTENDED VERSION]

Buffy was staring at the ceiling. Her hair was long, blonde and loose around her shoulders. She looked around idly, letting out a contented sigh. She was pretty comfy, as she stretched out on Angel's red-brown sofa bed that was in his apartment. She'd been taking in his place one day, as if for the first time, when suddenly she realised how aside from the bed that was there, there wasn't really any suitable seating to be had in his place of abode. All the same, she loved being at Angel's, whether he was there or not. Obviously she preferred it when he was there, but he did have this tendency to take off without warning. Presently, she was wearing her brown heeled shoes, tight-fitting jeans and a white top. The cross that always adorned her chest was present; it comforted her to wear it. It was at this moment, running a hand through her smooth blonde hair, that she decided that that was one thing about Angel that she liked less about him, him taking off so much. But her heart yearned to be with Angel at all times, and she then realised that she even felt somewhat dissatisfied that he didn't seem to want to spend all of his time with her.

With that, she opened the door to his apartment and strode off into the outside world, leaving their sanctuary behind.

As was not an uncommon occurrence for Buffy, she was walking through the graveyard to get to the Bronze. The trees were stirring with a very slight breeze. There was rarely much wind in Sunnydale so to see that was nice, she thought to herself, and the moon was offering its modicum of light from it's half-crescent. Her footsteps made very little sound as she padded across all too familiar paths, weaving between the gravestones and mausoleums. Hearing a loud yell, she was suddenly set upon, a leaping figure appearing from her right. Buffy looked at the guy, face disfigured and immediately reached inside her jacket for the stake that she knew was there. The vamp swung at her wildly and missed. Buffy quickly reached around his neck with her left arm from behind to clamp him in a rear chinlock as it were. In a way, it was always good to get in a staking or two to really get her going on an evening, as this was something she had both experienced before and become accustomed to. And of course, she was both built for it and extremely good at it. Killing vampires added to the inherent excitement of her day-to-day existence, and her nights just never seemed to have that sense of completion unless she got in a slaying or two. She enjoyed the feeling that came with knowing she had done her job as the Slayer; it was that sense of fulfilling her inherent duty of responsibility, she guessed. Buffy realised she was kinda hot after the fight, so she decided to take off her leather jacket and to carry it the rest of the way to the Bronze. She had no idea who she might see there, or indeed if she would see any of her friends, but the music was generally good and she fancied a drink. And anyway she decided, a slight niggling twinge playing a chord in her heart, if Angel could take off without warning without her and go wherever, well, then she'd be damned if anything was going to stop her going out also and doing as she please. Hell, maybe Angel was at the Bronze, though she doubted that. His melancholy demeanour and character usually stuck out like a sore thumb at a raucous club like the Bronze, so it tended to be a place he avoided.

_______________________

Buffy had heard and been attracted to the sound of the live music from a fair distance away as she handed over the cover charge to the bouncer. As she entered, the lights on the ceiling of the club lit up her countenance and slender posture, as she placed her jacket on a table nearby and sat on a stool.

“Gee, will anyone buy me a drink tonight?” she muttered aloud to herself.

Just then, out of her peripheral vision, a dark-haired form appeared and put a drink down for her on the table in front of her.

“Vodka cocktail” the stranger said.

“Hey thanks! But, you really shouldn't have, I was just going to go to the bar to get one for myself.”

“Hey, no worries. A beautiful lady like you should never have to buy her own drinks” the man said charmingly in response.

He was not too dissimilar in looks to Angel; tall, with dark hair and a strong frame, but still, like Angel he seemed a bit older than her and Buffy was admittedly a little uncomfortable at the thought of sitting at a table drinking with anyone other than her friends or Angel.

“So, I take it you live in Sunnydale?” “My name's Henk by the way.”

“Um, yes as a matter of fact I do. Not far from here actually on Rebello Drive” Buffy replied.

Henk gave her a reassuring smile and replied “Ah, and what a wonderful town this is.

It was all in lights, as the band “Sprung Monkey” bounced around and moshed like madmen to their tunes. The audience that was in the crowd was dancing away merrily and seemed to dig them.

“Hey, have you seen this band before? I think they're called 'Sprung Monkey'. They played here last year. It was a memorable night for me, but not for reasons I'd care to go into here, I wouldn't want to bore you. At least I'd rather not. The band's cool though” Buffy implored.

“You know what I don't think I've seen them before, but I was wondering, do you wanna dance with me?

__________________________

Angel had had Buffy on his mind all night. Having left the apartment, he'd been sitting on a familiar hill writing poetry and drawing pictures of Buffy in his notebook. He had half a dozen such books back at his apartment, and most of their content centred around Buffy. She was after all, his muse, and he'd spent a good hour or so just thinking about their relationship as he jotted down his thoughts in poetic form and drawing her from his photographic memory. As was often the case, really he was just pining for her, but of course, she wasn't to know that.

He got to the table with her coat, following her scent, and then at once his eyes were drawn to the dance floor.

If it had been beating, Angel knew that his heart would have skipped a beat in his chest, but the effect was there all the same, which he certainly felt. Sadly, it was a familiar feeling, and not one he enjoyed. He turned and walked back around to the table, placing his notebook next to Buffy's leather coat. Angel, despite being surrounded by happy people, was now not in a good place, as his thoughts took a darker turn. “Who is that guy, and what's Buffy doing dancing with him?” he wondered to himself. The thought that Buffy could like or be attracted to anyone other than him stung him, and incited the inherently jealous aspect of his internal character more than he'd like. This had happened before, that time she'd danced with Xander back when 'Cibo Matto' had been playing at The Bronze on that fateful night, which now seemed to be lost to the aeons of time. But of course he remembered everything in fine detail. At times, his photographic memory seemed to be just another of the curses that he had to deal with, and sometimes it could be an unpleasant attribute to possess.

His melancholic brooding was interrupted, however, when Buffy came bounding across happily to the table, after having made her way through the outskirts of the people in the audience, who were still jumping and dancing away to the band. Henk was in hot pursuit, holding on to one of Buffy's arms as she dragged him away from the dance floor to the table where Angel was.

At that, Angel stood up from his chair, glancing at Henk, placing Buffy forcibly yet gently back on her feet. He was clearly uncomfortable as he said to Buffy, “You've been drinking” as he smelt the faint hint of vodka on her breath.

“Hey, just a little” Buffy responded, looking as innocent as she could as she looked up at him coyly. “I just wanted to come here for a little fun, and hey, look who I ran into!” she said excitedly.

She turned to Henk, bringing him closer to the table, then turned back to Angel saying, “Angel, this is Henk, he's a new friend I met here tonight”.

At that, Henk stuck out a firm hand in Angel's direction, a proud American-style smile decorating his features. Maybe he worked in business, but he really had the credentials to be a male model for all Buffy knew, musing to herself.

Angel in turn met Henk's gaze, a slight coldness in his demeanour as he said “Pleased to meet you”. Turning away from his apparent rival for her affection, chords of angst still plaguing his heart, Angel's gaze flicked back passed Buffy as he said to her, “I'd better go, I didn't know you'd be here making friends.”

I know, Henk, why don't you go to the bar and see if you can get us all a round of drinks. That'll give Angel and I enough time to re-acquaint?” Buffy suggested.

“Okay, sure thing” Henk replied. With that, Henk stood up and left, the scent of his cologne wafting in Buffy's direction as she turned back to Angel.

“Hey love, don't be that way” she said as she absorbed the look of disapproval on Angel's face.

Moving closer to him, she told Angel softly that “My reasons for coming to the Bronze were entirely innocent, you can trust me on that.”

Angel's continued look of discomfort was not what Buffy wanted to see, so she said “Angel, sweetie, you can trust me.

The music was playing loudly now, and seeing that she was getting through to him, Buffy put her arms around his neck and kissed his cheek. “See, I like you. You're the one I want Angel, Henk's just a friend” she said looking up at him.

I really don't care for it when you take off without a moment's notice, and I can't seem to find you. My heart longs for you when you're not there.”

Angel looked at her again. “Buffy,” Angel said to her softly, “I think I just needed some time to myself, you know to think and take stock of where we are in our relationship. Never before have I loved you so much or ever had the pleasure of knowing that feeling for anyone else. Its a lot to take in sometimes. Just being around you makes me wonder what I can offer you, whether I'm worthy. Or something like that.”

At this, seemingly on cue, 'Sprung Monkey' launched into another tune and Buffy almost laughed as she caught sight of Henk making his way back to their table with a tray of their drinks. She took in Angel's countenance, reassuring him by saying “Of course you're worthy silly, who do you think I think about all the time? Who do you think I love the most in this world? Its you honey, and let me tell you it always will be.” She pulled closer to kiss his mouth and he drank it in, her soft lips playing a chorus in his heart and soul that only the choirs of heaven could have composed. “Okay Buffy. Just know that I love you, and I never mean to hurt you. Even if sometimes its hard for me to take in the magnitude of our relationship and what it means to me, just know I never want to hurt you. Not if I can help it.”

Buffy then looked up at him and smiled for her love. “Okay sweetheart, you're totally forgiven” moving in again to kiss his mouth, passionately this time.

Say, hey, is this one for me?”

Henk nodded grimly in the affirmative. “Well, I saw how much you seemed to enjoy the first one so I figured another one for the evening couldn't hurt.”

“And how right you were” Buffy said as she took a deep slug of her cocktail.

__________________________

A little while later, the pressured water was falling down onto Angel's torso as he moved his hands through his dark, wet hair. The water was hot, and it felt great on his skin. He may not have had an internal body heat, but a hot shower was something that Angel enjoyed, particularly in the morning. He'd left Buffy in his bed, rising slowly so as not to wake her after she had fallen back asleep. Perhaps she was dreaming, he thought, as she moved slightly with her eyes closed and murmured something, adjusting her pillow. Angel had crept away from her then, fully utilising his ability to make no sound as he made his way through to the bathroom. He'd had a shower installed based on Buffy's insistence. One night they'd been set upon by a slime demon and, suffice to say it was not a pretty sight when they had to undress at his place later that evening. Turning around in the shower to feel the water running down his back, he took the time to reflect on what to him had been almost a perfect morning. He was spending time with his life's love and that was very special to him. He knew in his heart, beating or not, that he loved Buffy dearly and always found himself revelling in the pleasure of being in her company. “Ah, not bad for two hundred and forty two” he whispered to himself, as he dwelt on some of the kinder memories from his long history.

Hearing a couple of gentle, almost coy knocks on the steamed shower door, Angel turned around. A beautiful blonde form stood in a haze of steam, as Angel watched Buffy gracefully remove her nightie. She opened the door and moved to step inside as she looked up at Angel and said “Mind if I join you?” offering him a radiant smile. He smiled in response at her, then put his arms around her tiny frame to invite her in to stand where the hot water continued to fall. Buffy moved her hands through her hair as she allowed herself to get wet. She really wanted to feel the heat of the shower this morning. She'd noticed that it had been a little cool in the apartment without her clothes at first, so she moved closer to Angel to stand closer to him under the falling stream of water. Angel reached to take a bottle of shower gel that was on the rack and squeezed a small amount into his hand and onto Buffy's back and then onto her small breasts and torso. He lowered his head to meet hers as he gently rubbed the gel into a foam on her form.

“Mmmm, this feels good” she purred into his ear. After a brief period, and still soapy, she turned to caress his cheek, looking up at him. “I love you so much Angel.” Angel smiled at her and took the shower in his hand to clean away the soap suds off her body. After he had done this, Buffy washed her hair with shampoo, before returning the favour and washing Angel's strong, chiselled back with the gel. “I never realised just how beautiful this was” she said quietly as she padded with her hand at the area where Angel's tattoo was. She stood up on her tiptoes, placing her hands behind his head as he leant back around to kiss her.

Upon being satisfied, and thoroughly clean, Angel turned the shower off and opened the door, allowing Buffy to step out first. She did so, then she moved to grab their large white towel from the radiator. They helped each other dry off, smiling and planting firm kisses on each other intermittently when suddenly Angel picked Buffy's entire form up off the floor, with a laugh. Buffy let out a slight shriek as Angel bounded over to the bed and together they fell in a heap, her on top of him. She straddled him and pulled the covers back over them both. “Can we stay like this all day?” was all she said to him. Angel could smell the freshly washed scent of her body and it was intoxicating. He moved up to continue to plant his lips firmly on hers, while she moved her hands through his hair and around his strong arms. Moments like these were times Angel savoured, being with Buffy like this, but thankfully he knew in himself that he knew where to draw the line, or at least it usually got to the point when he felt like he had to draw the line. To his relief, the phone rang, to which Buffy let out a playful moan, allowing herself to hop up from the bed with just a sheet around her to keep her modesty. Gathering herself, she answered the phone, while Angel put his hands behind his head, just basking in the moment. To be with his love, at this time was a blessing because he knew she was the one for him; he truly loved her.

“Hey Willow, what's up?” he heard her say as she manoeuvred the sheet around her frame more effectively. Buffy was still excited at what had transpired that morning so far. Another day with Angel was always a beautiful thing for her, and it certainly was never not lost on her just how precious the time they spent together was.

“Yeah, that's cool, Angel and I will be right over when we're ready. Say about forty minutes or so? Okay Will, we'll see you then.”

After putting the phone down, Buffy walked softly back over to the bed and bent over near to Angel. “I guess its time we got up and dressed, Willow wants us over at her place ASAP.”

“At her place?” Angel repeated.

“Yeah, she didn't say exactly why, but she said that she'd found something interesting, so we'd better go round and check it out, don't ya think?”

“Okay then, lets do that” Angel replied, almost reluctantly. He'd gotten used to their just being in his apartment. It had become something of a sanctuary for the pair of them.

It was around eleven o'clock when Buffy and Angel stood outside of Willow's house in front of the door. The morning was bright and Angel had had to cover himself in a cloak to get there safely, hampering his usually stealthy efforts at movement. “Its okay, you'll be just fine” Buffy had reassured him before they had set off.

Buffy knocked a few times on the door and Willow answered, greeting her best friend with a bright smile.

“Hey Buffy, hey Angel. Wow, Angel you'd better come in, it looks pretty sunny outside” she said. Angel almost fell through the door, taking off the cloak and looking pretty perturbed at the whole ordeal. “I hope this is worth it Willow” was all he said. Buffy smirked to herself and reassured Willow, “Don't worry, I've been looking after Angel this morning” and Willow smiled in relief at that. “Okay, come on in” she said, “There are a couple of people here who I want you to meet. They need to see you. My parents are out shopping, but they'll be back soon so we have to be rather speedy.” “Okaay, if you say so” Buffy retorted as the three of them moved through towards Willow's bedroom.

Upon entering, to Buffy's delight there was a small, dark-haired man accompanied by none other than Henk. Upon seeing her new friend Buffy smiled happily and said “Oh my God, Henk! Its so cool to see you. What on earth are you doing here, at Willow's?”

“Hello Buffy. Well, it turns out that my friend and I had some pressing business to attend to, and really we needed you here in person to discuss it. I hope that that's not been any trouble for you. both”

“No, its no trouble” Buffy half-smirked at Angel, who was still holding his cloak and looking a little uncomfortable. “Who's your friend?” she asked Henk,

“Ah well, guys I want you to meet Doyle, he's Irish but don't worry he doesn't bite. In fact he came up from LA last night with the specific design in mind to see you both.”

“Hey Doyle” Buffy and Angel said, almost in unison.

To this Doyle nodded at them and said, “Pleased to make your acquaintance.”

“Now Buffy, I hope you forgive me for my actions here, but my meeting you last night was no co-incidence. I knew you'd be at the Bronze and it was my intention to meet you because Doyle here gets visions of people in trouble and that sort of thing.”

“Ah, and what a wonderful pleasure it is to have a vision” Doyle said sarcastically and with a charming smile. “Usually splits my brain in two, but I figure its gotta be worth something in the long run if its gonna help someone in need, right?

The Irish man was sipping a beer, even though it was the middle of the day, as Henk continued to explain.

“You see Buffy, the truth is that I work for the Californian arm of the Watcher's Council. I know that Rupert Giles is your watcher and our meeting last night was primarily a reconnaissance mission I was sent on, to scout you, to assess your character as it were. I've been in contact with Giles, and I'll be seeing him later. You're more than welcome to join us by the way. But, at this point, I'll hand you over to Doyle who can fill you in on the vision he had.”

Willow was anxiously watching all this play out, wondering just when her folks would burst through the front door as Doyle continued to explain, “You see you were in my vision Buffy. And you, Angel. My vision came from the Powers that Be, and in it I was told that you need to see the Oracles Angel, because something's gonna come against Buffy that you're not gonna like or enjoy, that much I can be sure about.”

“But why us. What's this got to do with Buffy and I?” Angel enquired, somewhat anguished.

Doyle replied, “I'm not sure, but I can take you to see the Oracles. They're the ones who are gonna explain all this and maybe just maybe we can be sure to protect Buffy in the process” he said, taking a large gulp of beer into his mouth.

At this, Henk intervened by saying “In any event, I need to see Giles at the library. Buffy, would you care to join me? I don't know how feasible it is for Angel to travel there, at least until the sun goes down.”

In response, Buffy said “Actually, I'd rather go with Angel and Doyle to see the Oracles and find out just what it is that's after me. I hope I'm not in any trouble, or at least, more trouble than I can handle. Angel and I will go with Doyle and we'll catch up with you guys later. You'll probably be able to find us at Angel's place or we'll see you at the library.”

“Okay Buffy, that suits me. Doyle will go with you and take you to see the Oracles while I go and visit Giles to discuss these important events. Take care of yourself, and I would implore you, be on your guard because until Angel sees the Oracles we won't know exactly what we're up against.”

“That's cool Henk, I'm used to being the one that's in danger. Its no biggie. Angel, Doyle and I can handle it in the meantime I think” Buffy said.

With that, the meeting seemed to be brought to a conclusion. Doyle finished his beer and tossed the empty bottle into the trash can in the corner of Willow's room. Willow guided the whole gang toward the front door, relieved that she wouldn't be found with “strangers” in the house by her rather strict parents.

When they got to the front of the house, Angel groaned as Buffy made him protect himself with the cloak before opening the door. “Okay, we'll be seeing ya Will. We'll either talk later on the phone or I'll stop by soon, Okay? I promise” Buffy said to her friend.

“Okay, sure thing Buffy” Willow replied, closing the door behind them, relieved as the four of them stepped out into the Californian sunshine.

“We need to go this way, to the Post Office. That's where we'll find the Oracles” said Doyle immediately.

Henk had already gotten into his car and was starting the engine when the three of them, Buffy, Angel and Doyle began walking down the street to the Post Office.

The flashing white light had momentarily blinded Angel, as he stepped through the gateway into the Oracles' antechamber. Upon regaining his senses, he espied two graceful looking figures in his vision, one male, one female.

“Greetings, lower being” the male Oracle said to Angel.

“Uh. Hello. Just what is it that I''m doing here?” Angel enquired in response.

“We have summoned you to our presence, through the lower being you know as Doyle” the female Oracle said.

“Okay, so you've got me here. Mind telling me just what it is that I need to know?” Angel said.

“And so we shall” the golden man continued. “We have summoned you to tell you that your spouse's life is in the balance. The higher orders have seen of your love for your companion, and wish to warn you that it will not be long before your happiness reaches a level you will be unable to contain. You will not be able to manage your love for Buffy Summers, and it will result in you losing your soul, whether you physically copulate or not.”

“And that's not all” the woman interjected. “Another slayer has been called to Sunnydale, and this coming will place your slayer's life in grave danger. Action must be taken on your part to avoid this calamity.”

Angel was reeling at this news as he enquired, “Okay, so just what is it that you want me to do about these things?”

The male Oracle moved toward Angel with graceful poise. “You must surrender your love for Buffy Summers. Only ceasing your romantic involvement with her will ensure that you keep your soul and give her a fighting chance in the forthcoming encounter with the new slayer upon her arrival.”

Angel felt like his intestines were twisted within him, a sick feeling rising into his throat. Surely not like this, and why now, he wondered to himself?

“There must be some other way” he said in pleading.

The golden man shook his head sombrely. “There is not, and you were called here for us to tell you this. The final decision you make will be yours, but make no mistake, staying in a loving relationship with this slayer of yours will end in catastrophe.”

Angel shook his head, trying to process this turn of events. “There must be another way. I will find another way” he said, almost to himself, before the white lights flashed and he was thrust back into the basement of the Post Office with Doyle and Buffy.

Doyle enquired, “Hey Angel, you were just gone this instant, what the hell happened in to you in there?”

Angel hesitated, looking longingly at Buffy before responding, “I can't Doyle. Buffy, I just can't” and with that he turned to run headlong up the stairs into the street, grabbing his cloak along the way.

A look of alarm took place on Buffy's features. “Just what did happen in there” she worryingly pondered aloud. She turned to yell behind his fleeting figure, “Angel!” But it was to no avail, it was too late. Angel was gone, and Doyle was left alone with Buffy.

The candles were lit in Angel's apartment. She'd lit them, thinking solely about her life's love and wondering if he'd appreciate them, or if he'd even notice them. She'd made it back to Angel's apartment first, before him, and since then had been sitting on their sofa-bed, casually reading one of the book of notebooks that Angel kept on top of the table in the main room. Looking at the images of herself had brought a tear to Buffy's eyes, and as she had keenly read the love poems that were written for her, her love for Angel had risen to a level almost unbeknownst to humankind. She was his muse, and she was just fine with that. It just made her love him more, knowing that she was so cherished in his heart and soul.

She'd put on a graceful white dress for the occasion, as night fell outside and the moonlight shone. She looked stunningly beautiful, slender and graceful, and she wanted everything she was to be for her lover. She'd pulled the curtains closed, and hoped that Angel wouldn't be away much longer. Time spent apart from him was more often than not painful for her, as she craved to be in his company.

The phone rang but she didn't answer it, instead moving to the door as sounds came echoing down the corridor to the apartment – footsteps. She opened the door to see Angel looking a bit forlorn, as he came in, trying to avoid her gaze. She thought she could see the remains of tears in his eyes as she implored, “Angel, where have you been? I've been so worried.”

He looked at her, somehow generating the strength and courage to meet her gaze. She had such beautiful green eyes, and he just wanted to lose himself in them, forever. He said, “You don't know what they told me Buffy, the Oracles.”

She moved closer to him, looking radiant in her white dress. Touching his face with one of her hands she said, “Hey sweetie, it doesn't matter what they said to you Angel, you know I'll always be here for you.”

Angel recoiled instinctively based on the Oracles' advice; he needed to be careful now or he may lose his soul, though happiness seemed far out of the equation for him right now. He looked at her, so beautiful in the stunning white dress, that the tears started to flow anew in his eyes. “You look so beautiful Buffy. You are the love of my life, and it kills me to say it.”

Buffy looked up at him, cradling his cheek as she said, “But why, did somebody say we can't be together, is that it? I'm always here for you Angel, with my whole body and soul. I am completely yours. Do with me as you please and I'll accept it.”

Angel was really struggling now, the turmoil within almost too much to bear. “There's another slayer coming to Sunnydale. And, somehow its got something to do with us being together. The Oracles are worried that we were getting so happy that I would lose my soul, and they would lose a warrior, a champion for their cause to the dark side.”

“Angel, my love, I'm here” Buffy said, embracing him in a firm, understanding grip. “You'll always have me. I'm not going anywhere.”

“But we're close, Buffy” Angel replied. “We get so happy being together that there's a danger--”

“Don't” she whispered, standing right next to him. “Just kiss me.”

Their passion was almost indescribable that night. Two lovers, beset in each other's hearts who were seemingly hell bent on losing themselves in each other's eternal embrace.

The moon shone as thunder rumbled and heavy rain falled near to Angel's and throughout Sunnydale. The town, seemingly, was beset by storm once again.
