hey all

dont no if this has already been posted but last night i saw an advert for a new buffy/angel mag!!! each mag will come with a dvd of 4 episodes building up to all 7 seasons of buffy and all 5 seasons of angel so effectively giving you every episode made with magazines over a period of time. 1st issue is £1.99 then £7.99 afterwrds

hope this brings good news to all!!

That's an interesting offer. I haven't heard about anything like that in the US, but I hope a lot of our members "across the pond," as my dad used to say, enjoy it. Now that Buffy and Angel have a Season 8 and 5 respectively, there will be some new things to publish. The two separate magazines here got downright boring and repetitious very quickly.

I have every single episode of both Buffy and Angel on DVD and I still wanna buy this mag. The word 'obsessed' dows not begin to describe me, lol.

Although I have all seasons of both Buffy and Angel, Im very tempted to get this, The magazine looks good.

Heres the website, where you can subscribe: http://www.buffycollection.com

You get lots of goodies too when you subscribe, posters, mugs and binders.

verrrry tempted.

cheers for that link, i am getting the mag tomorrow so would have posted it when i had the correct details so you've saved me a job now.:) hehe
frank no, just think about how much itll all cost... oh please!

especially if you, like im sure most of us do, have all them already.

like £48 for a season.... £336 for all of btvs or £264 since first issue is cheaper and season 1 will only be 3 discs.... but exact numbers aside 🙂

and another £240 for angel... and how often do these magazines keep going beyond a handfull of issues?

This is the thing thats putting me off...
Hmmm. So, we have one season of 11 epsiodes, plus 6 seasons of 22. That makes 143 episodes of Buffy in total. Then we have 5 seasons of Angel at 22 episodes each. That gives a grand total of 253 episodes.

Divide that by 4 to see roughly how many issues you'd need to get all the episodes, and you get 63.25 . They'd make that into 64, to sell an extra issue.

So, 64 issues in the set. The first costs £2, so we have to add 63 £8 issues.

£514 for them all. Lets see what Amazon has to say.

Amazon.co.uk: Buffy The Vampire Slayer - The Complete DVD Collection

Oh. Only £100. And that includes proper packaging? Wow. Angel time:

Amazon.co.uk: Angel - Complete Collection

Oh again. That's only £80, again, with much more compact packaging. Hmm.

So, if buying all of Buffy and Angel costs £180, those 64 magazines are worth about £334 on their own. That's around £5.22 an issue for the actual magazine. Must be some quality journalism. Oh, wait. I forgot. We get a mug.

Don't get me wrong Ripper, I appreciate your bringing this to our attention. Thanks, because I'm sure some people will be interested, especially if it means they can pick up just the episodes they want. But I absolutely hate this kind of marketing, and I just think people should be aware of what they are getting into when they start to buy. Especially when people on here who already have the complete collection will buy this anyway.

Edit: Oh, and am I correct in assuming this is a monthly magazine? It was difficult to tell from their website. If so, just be glad knowing that you'll be able to sit down to Not Fade Away in about 5 years time.

I think I'll stick with my Complete Collections.

Great post! Not that I was gonna buy it anyway but always good for others to see how expensive it really is.. But you know, the first season of Buffy do have 12 episodes. ;)
there is no way any of us should be duped into buying this.. im with 5x5.. i HATE this exploitation of a good show... the magazine will never run to full completion.

Another good point. If this is monthly, do you still expect them to be producing it in 5 years time, if the comics end? Or if it's weekly, can you really afford to spend £32 pounds a month on it? Just make sure you think before you buy.

"Every episode of Buffy and Angel in one amazing collection - who would have thought it?" but they are in seperate boxsets and its been done several times before... with proper reasonably priced dvd compete sets as well as normal dvd season releases and the older VHS collections... GEEZ!

and like we all dont know everything there is about the shows... we dont need a magazine to tell us anything about what we love.... yes im p.o'd at this grr

Yeah, I think ill get the first issue to see the magazine, but like you said, its going to cost way too much.

I did scream of joy when the advert was on TV before though! 😀

i got pissed off when i saw it, they tried it with stargate and star trek, and kung fu films and marvel superheroes and they all stopped waaaay before the end

they get enough people sucked in for the first issue and maybe a few if any after that and then due to low sales can legitimately cancel the series... shoot me if this completes... i have been wrong a lot

looks like they've only got up to issue 5 planned as well.... on the website... lets see if it gets past issue 5.

edit- as for 'free gifts' just think if you are paying £8... right, the mug cost feck all and a price of a dvd is "cheap as chips".... making money hand over fist... lol

and oooh a binder! and a box... really how considerate, a box in which to put the dvds!

I like these offers but the prices always make it 10x more expensive than just buying the boxsets and the added magzine doesnt make up for the price difference.

lol i just saw the advert while reading this thread

anyway, for you Americans, it was announced on Whedonesque months ago, so i assume you lot already have it. For us Brits, i wouldn't recommend it, i've had thicker pamphlets than this so called "Magazine". The price for the first issue is good though, just for the dvd, got mine this morning, can't wait to have enough free time to watch it ^^

Thanks for the link fireball, I only caught half the advert last night so that's cleared some stuff up for me 🙂

I totaly agree it'd be an utter waste of money for anyone looking to collect the entire series, i doubt the magazines themselves contain any more trivia than you can find on imdb and the commentaries are probably exactly the same as the existing ones on the dvds (i appreciate i'm uninformed and possibly being cynical, feel free to correct me!), and as everyone's pointed out you know there's just no way it'll run to completion.

I'll admit I did get excited though at the advert, my mum was trying to tell me something really important and i flipped over the channel and suddenly screamed 'gah..BUFFY!'... lol my priorities displeased her somewhat.

I do think though it's surely a testament to the quallity of the programme that even after being off the air for 5 years people are still interested enough for something like this to be started up?

i'll get the first issue tomorrow to see what its like but after that i wont bother 1 i already own all episodes and 2 it is expensive. i just thought people would like to no one was out i didn't think so many people would have a problem with it so sorry if i annoyed any one with the news of this mag.

star trek's been going since the 60s though; I just thought it was kinda cool that the mainstream hadnt forgotten buffy! lol
Shadowcay saw the advert and told me about it before I logged off last night, I turn on the TV and theres the advert LOL.

Yeah those things never run to completion and you usually end up paying more than the entire series DVD boxset, multiples of the price in fact.

They started one for the X-Files the other day, really doubt that one is going to go for all 10 seasons.

9 seasons of x files... and one season of lonegunmen
Ripper 08 agrees: ye it's a rip off and from what i can make out i think its fortnightly not monthly, i just feel silly now cus most people seem annoyed at the idea lol

Fortnightly. So you'd only have to wait 2 and a half years to see Not Fade Away....wait, who am I kidding. That would mean they stuck with timeline continuity... You'd have to wait 2 and a half years till Chosen, cause they'd burn through Angel well before then. Also, where did you get that timescale, cause I looked all over their website, and they conveniently forgot to tell me how often they wanted to take my money from me.

Again, not directed at you Ripper in any way!

3 times the price, to be exact. Well, 3 times the everyday, just looked at Amazon, I-would-never-pay-in-a-million-years-cause-there's-bound-to-be-somewhere-else-selling-it-cheaper price. Which is rather a lot.

Also, I just saw the advert too. It almost made me consider buying it. But then I just started chanting 514...514...514...514...

And TK: Damn you! Argh! I was almost certain that someone would come along and point out a glaring flaw in my simplistic maths skills (me and maths fell out a looooong time ago), but then you go and pick me up on basic Buffy knowledge! Why did I think there was only 11?!?!? It wasn't even a slip, I honestly thought there was only 11! Perhaps I merged WttH/tH into one single pilot.... My calculations do seem to still hold up though, since I rounded up when deciding how many issues there would potentially be. So :silly:

Yes, damn me! Feels good to be loved. :)
I'm glad you folks have saved me the bother of saying "don't bother with these and save up your hard-earned dosh for getting the box sets, if you don't already have them"

An old school friend of mine does work for some of the publishers of these part works and even he can't understand why people get them but he's glad they do. The DVDs are cheaper from Amazon or play.com and there is rarely anything in the magazines that can't be found on sites like this or elsewhere in the public domain.

woot! my mum wanted to start a down with the btvs dvd mag rip scheme lol
Well I don't live in the UK so I don't get tempted too much. I would like to get these though, just for obsessive reasons. Plus, I kinda prefer information in print over something I read somewhere on the internet. You always know where exactly to look it up, plus, magazines are something nice to look at, even years from now when you maybe don't bother too much with the show anymore and just stumble across them.
