lol. She so wouldn't work as Buffy. In her defense I highly doubt she would sign on for anymore vampire movies....I'm guessing being involved the twilight series will have her seriously consider being in anymore "teen vamp" movies.

Note that this is a different reboot project than the one Fran Rubel Kuzui was developing in 2009. Warner Bros and Atlas picked up the rights from Vertigo Entertainment, the company that was pushing forward with a new film at that time.

The whole new Buffy movie with no Joss Whedon involvement is just...strange to say the least. I heard the news at the end of the day after a long day of work.
 
Still, not sure what to make of this.
Obviously, with no Joss it'll be very different, and it certainly won't be as good. We can all agree on that, right?

But we might as well hold out some hope that it might be decent.
It won't be the Buffy we all know and love, but it could still be a lot of fun if they do it right.
As long as there's a decent cast and they don't "Twilight" it, I'm looking forward to this. 😀
 
I got told by a friend who knew I was obsesed with Buffy and she thought I would be happy. She was VERY suprised when I started yelling and getting angry at her because of the whole no-Joss-no-SMG thing.

I'm sure as hell not excited. Remakes tend to go badly, especially when someone other is directing it. I remember the talk few months ago how they would like to make Friends remake, but the cast is too old now, so they would like to hire new people.. can you imagine that? We love Rachel because JA is so perky, and we love Monica because of the way Courtney talk. And can you imagine somone other as Joey. "Joey doesn't share food." - can anyone say that good as Matt did?
Sex and the City wouldn't be half as successful without the original crew.. actors are big part of characters.
There are some great directors out there, probably better then Joss.. and writers. Probably there are better actors then Sarah, Alyon, Eliza.. but that doesn't matter. Sarah is Buffy, and Alyson is Willow.
I won't discriminate the new movie, if it comes to that, I'll watch it and won't deny if it's good, but in the start it'll have one big minus, because it'll be Buffy, but it won't be..
Plus, with all the vampire craze, I'm really worried it'll become Twilighty..

Words cannot even begin to describe my disappointment at the news of the Buffy relaunch. I will say that without the involvement of Joss I will not support this project nor will it see a dime from me. Period. End of story.

I agree. I think this is all being done in an attempt to cash in on the latest "vampire craze." And what's even more messed up about that is the fact that Joss did it long before Twilight or any of these other posers came on the scene. To do this without Joss's approval is wrong, just wrong. Yep, this whole thing is motivated by greed and love of money.
 
I guess I'm probably going to be in the severe minority here, but if the original cast and crew aren't stepping up to say "we want to do this", how are we honestly going to expect anything BUT a ripoff?

We're not. The point is they shouldn't do it period.
I'm open to the idea of a reboot. I just want it to be done right.

I don't want:

Casting of teen idols in the movie. No Twilight stars, no Harry potter stars and no glee stars.

I don't want it to comedic. It needs to be a certain shade of grey that made the series so enjoyable and good quality.

A certain budget. Not to high, not to low.

Make it for the movie and story. Not for us Buffy fans. Not for teenagers. Not for Twilight fans. The talk of 'bringing it to a new generation' worries me.

I skimmed this page and saw 'Kristen Stewart' and I yelled out, "NO NO NO!"
There are already several things wrong with this Buffy reboot and casting Kristen Stewart as Buffy would be like stabbing me repeatedly in the heart.

What happened to originality? Why must others copy or remake something that's perfectly fine untounched? I'm a teen myself but I do know that most of the people my age that I know would know more about this remake than the actual phenomenal series. It'd just be a waste of time, trying to get the next generation into it.

My cousin even said to me, "Ew, they're just copying Twilight."
I hit her after that, by the way. I've always wanted too. She's never heard of Buffy and is a huge Twilight fan, my fist was just itching for it.

It's bad enough Joss Whedon won't be involved. Neither are the original cast, which made me cry a little bit. But how can these so called fans who are doing this project not do the right thing and try and get Joss involved, or better yet, not create a remake?

Honestly. Hollywood frustrates me. No imagination. It's all book adaptations and remakes these days.

I kind of want this movie to be a success just to spite all the nay-sayers. Come on, give the girl a chance, she's a fan of the show.

Obviously, I don't think Buffy needs a reboot, especially not so soon, but I'm going to sit back and reserve judgement. If it's bad, then at least we get to point and say, "I told you so." They're not burning your DVD's, people.

I'm just annoyed that the people behind this actually think that people who are fans of the show are their "active fan base". Anyone who's spent two seconds on google would know that most of the fans wouldn't be interested in this. For every site dedicated to the Buffy character on her own, there are about a thousand fan sites for the supporting characters and the creators. Without Willow and Xander and Anya or the dozens of others I'm bored already, and the fact that their rushing the script doesn't help either.
At best I'll watch a pirated copy online just so I can make snide comments about it on facebook.

So aren't the weirdo's that write Dawn/Giles fanfic. I really wouldn't care so much except for the fact that if this movie bombs it destroys every single last hope of another spinoff show or an actual Buffy movie. And if it's a hit, then it'll just mean more Joss-less movies.

It's a lose/lose for people who love the show. Their not burning my dvds, just my last hopes for a continuation of the Buffyverse that isn't some weird comic.
 
I'm still holding out hope. It could be one of the greatest films of our time for all we know - until we see a cast, teasers, or a general summary of what the plot will look like, we don't know anything.

Yep, that's how I'm looking at it too for the time being. Keeping positive.
Im conflicted about this. In the statement that they made about it,I agreed with virtually everything. Theres no reason buffy shouldnt endure and be introduced to a new audience. But at the same time it just...feels too soon. Buffys continuing in the comics and it doesnt seem to be done for a while. It isnt dead and it only ended on tv 7 years ago. And still everywhere I go I see signs of it. Buffy is still alive and kicking. And I feel as if the old addage of if its not broke,dont fix it.

But I also feel as if I should give it a chance. I mean only 13 years ago did a show come on the air based on a movie that was a critical and box office flop...and who thought that it was a good idea at the time? This could be no different. Buffys a character that could undergo thousands of interputations. It's just...well..I already think they nailed the best. But who knows? That heath ledger guy sure beat that jack nicholson guys interputation of the joker.
 
Upon reading Whit Anderson's take on Buffy, she seems sincere and seems to possess a solid interpretation of the character. That said, she doesn't really say in what direction she wants to take the character and the mythos. But if her statements indicate that she wishes to remain faithful to the spirit of the franchise (if not the exact content), then I feel that's a good start. I have also taken a wait-and-see approach to this, though I agree with everyone who has said that it's a bit too soon for a reboot. Joss' incarnation of Buffy is not even 20 years old, whereas many other recent reboots (Star Trek, Doctor Who, Sherlock Holmes, Batman, etc.) are new interpretations of series that have been around for at least 40 years.
