Sorry to slip off topic . It's just the whole 'Cordelia redemption' narrative is more offputting than anything . Focus on the positives 🙂 .

The writer(Holden) is passable and experienced with Buffy . Amber isn't bad either . The Buffyverse lends itself to alt-verse diversions very readily . Lots of returning characters . That's a pretty awesome list . 🙂

I'd just write the whole thing off as I've done most other in-universe stuff like all the old comics and Buffy tie-ins. It's just at this stage, this is all we get. One shot at making something that contributes to the Buffyverse and it's going to Cordy fanfic. That's the disappointment.

I didn't even think about that! Cordy and Tara never met in the series proper (in some of Golden's novels they briefly met). And she had barely any interactions with Anya (The Wish.... and a brief scene in graduation day? I think?) so that could be interesting. I'm excited. As said before, Golden's novels are very much some of the best. He definitely knows how to write for these characters. So I think it will be good. I would love a new novel series written by him and some of the other greats. Mel Odom, Nancy Holder, Yvonne Navarro. They always had the most interesting stories.
 
Well, when you kill all the cheap actors and murder continuity with... well meaning comics, alternative reality is your last hope for a decent class reunion. Which frankly, is the best way to look at this, one of those made for TV movies from the 70s, 80s or 90s where the stars of yesteryear team up. I mean, we kind of got that for X files, or Will & Grace, or about 70% of Carrie Bradshaw's life. If nothing else, radio is cheap. Not as cheap as comics, mind you, but it's a good way of gauging the show's current market appeal without building sets.

I am interested in it as a new venue. Have any details came out about the format? Like, is it going to be a novel with the different parts read by each character like they did for American Gods or will be an actual radio play kind of thing...

They did something similar with Kiernan Shipka last Halloween with Treat. I assume it'll be mostly voiced by CC.
 
I would have assumed that James Marsters, if anyone, would do the spoken parts for anything not spoken by a character.
 
Someone said it's an audio drama- if that clears anything up.
 
Radio v. Comics; I don’t know the figures. I would guess the amount of talent being used in the radio show would be the key point.

Yeah, but then printing, mass production and shipping I think would outweigh the cost of the actors. I would imagine the actors vs the pencils, inkers, etc would probably close to offset. But I don't know. Though I really want to find out now just too lazy to look.

edit: yeah, comic book is more expensive just based on a cursory look.

Comics are more digital now. I think it depends more on the books and company. On average, I think the audio would be cheaper, but maybe not in this case with all the actors and Golden who isn't a total nobody.

When it comes to Spike I'm actually not to bothered about less Joss Whedon. Whedon was never a big fan of the character and only kept him around because he was popular. Hell even JM admitted that Joss didn't write him much. Same way he never got Angel and Tim Minear was the driving force behind that character.

I'll listen to it before I give judgment. At least its more original than oh its Buffy but she's black which was the idea for the reboot

I’ve also always thought it was Greenwalts love for Cordelia in S3 that killed the character as much as S4. He literally wrote her as being so unbelievably good and pure that she ascended to become a higher power - putting her above every single Buffyverse character in terms of how they were viewed as heroes (for essentially actually doing very little compared to the others). Like where else is there to go with a character when that happens? You’ve just made someone a white wearing, glowing, all knowing all seeing pure selfless hero - what do you possibly do with them then?

Greenwalt wanted the Becoming ending but with Cordy in the Angel role. So it sounded like the writing was getting tired anyway (Dave Filoni and the Ahsoka show dials rehashing stuff up 1000)

HonestlyI and this will be controversial but I thought the Angel show was better without her. They'd Gone as far as they could with the character and Angel worked better with a smaller cast anyway.

Original cast gives me hope. I came to realize that a great cast can make up a lot for writing deficits (and I trust Amber) and nearly everyone involved has a) talent and imagination beyond mere acting b) a history of love for the franchise c) embodied the characters powerfully even in smaller roles.

I do love Buffy the character but not every story must be about her. Maybe if this goes well, smg will come on board in future. As long as there is no Buffy bashing, i am open.

I do hope there will be more voice from the original actors reprising their roles even if it explores alternate universes.

Bottom line: i like this way better than the Boom or the idea of "rebooting Buffy" for TV with no reference to our past universe OR beloved characters. At least here we get 1 of 2.

Still can’t imagine listening because of the Cordy of it all, but if the reviews are glowing, I might reconsider. It is just hard to be excited as the comics and the later novels have been just… bad. It all seems more about getting cash from fans, rather than telling a well thought out story.
 
To me the comics are as much canon as Episode VII to IX. Meaning they don't exist.

Whereas this Slayers audio-drama might turn out to be the Buffyverse's Rogue One.
