People just need to learn to give their opinion in a way that doesn't stomp all over other people's work. Especially when it's something where it's not important at all. Don't like the newest color scheme? Either say something constructive such as "I think the text is difficult to read" or something like "just not my cup of tea", because in the end, there are about 75 styles to choose from and you can just select another one. "It's awful!" just hurts people's feelings. Same when the staff posts an activity and people jump all over it criticizing it - just don't participate and save being super upset for things that are important.

Looking at this thread, I don't know how many ways to say "we'll try it a few weeks, and if it doesn't work out we'll change it". Constructive criticism is "It's too wide for my screen resolution". "It's terrible" is not constructive. If I ask for feedback and then I say "oh no, I only want positive feedback" that would be one thing...

Everyone is allowed to voice their opinion. That's why there are open threads that announce changes on the board, so we can find out if something's not working out. Obviously if something was changed on the board and it wasn't working correctly or there was a unanimous hatred of it, it would probably be changed back. But this is a case of people just consistently being negative to a change that's really not that big of a deal; the same stuff is here, it's just moved.
We, as a staff, have no problem with people voicing opinions. It's HOW some people choose to voice theirs that gets us P'O'd.

Honestly, while I miss the theme I had before and the "unread posts" at the top... I like this bare minimum a lot better than what you had changed it to.

Now that's not to say that I'm saying don't change it back. It is your site and you can do with it what you want. I was offering you my feedback... because I am a user on your site. User feedback is an important part of any site, is it not?

Beyond that, there is ALWAYS going to be negativity when presented with change of something like a website. This is most obvious every time Facebook changes. Remember when they FIRST introduced news feed? Like half the users of facebook said they'd quit because it was "stalkerbook" not "facebook." Most if not all of those people are still on facebook.

I like to think I tend to be rational when I see changes of websites. For instance, that facebook change I was just talking about... I was excited because I saw the limitless possibilities that could come from that change. However, I despise timeline with a passion. It's cluttered and it's not a timeline. What we had before, that was a timeline. It was a LINEAR order of your activity on facebook. What we have now is supposed to be more like a collection of things about your life. "Lifeline" would be a better name than "timeline." And I really honestly and openly hate it. It's frustrating and difficult to use. Most of the time, I, like most people, have a "well I don't like it now... but that's probably because i'm just so used to it being different. I'll get used to it" kind of view. That is what most people have expressed in this thread. That is not negativity. That is simply people not being used to change.. which is what change is by it's very definition.

But at any rate, with anything in life... literally ANYTHING you will have people who like it and people who don't. There are people in this thread who have said they like the changes better and there are people in this thread who have said they don't. There are more people in this thread who have said they need to get used to the changes to like them, which is really all you can ask of people.

So bottom line: don't want to hear feedback of change, don't change. End of story. I do not see why people vocalizing their feedback of the change requires this little tantrum I see here of taking the site down to the bare minimum.

I'll also mention, I'm not trying to hurt your feelings and I really hope you don't feel bad about anything I've said. I do not like the changes implemented earlier. I do not like them. They feel cluttered, and are distracting. It is distracting for me to look to the right side of my screen and see a whole column of boxes and information that is important and the left side and see the forum. It is also frustrating that the forum is smaller... it is also frustrating that the most bold thing on the front page is the random quote which is the least important thing on the page. This is criticism that is not personal. None of it is "I DO NOT LIKE YOUR WEBSITE!" It is simply "I cannot focus on what is going on on the page anymore and really hate that."

I just want to point out that this style we're using now has been available for a long while, so if anyone hated it THAT BAD they could have used it.

I'm not throwing a tantrum, I'm trying to get people to see and understand that if I didn't care, this is what you would see. This is no change, this is not trying anything. We wouldn't have the old style we had if I never tried anything new to see how it went. It evolved from something before.

I'm just asking for a little consideration and acceptance when I ask people to try it out.

I was considering using it to be honest. I wanted to spend the day with the changes to see if I wouldn't have to give up the unread posts and the pretty things... if I could live with the changes.

Instead of reminding people that this was here, you made it mandatory. That feels like tantrum material to me. We KNOW you care. If you didn't, you wouldn't have spent the past 10 years running this site. You give us a lot, we KNOW that. No one EVER said you didn't. What a few people did say was that they didn't like this change. What more people said was that they'd need to get used to it. What more do you want?

I'm sorry but saying she's having a tantrum is really rude and to me says you don't think she cares. I know you're saying you do. And I'm not saying everything you're saying is wrong. But saying she's have a tantrum is rude. It's how you phrase things that matters. That's what the mods are saying. Its how people PHRASE things.

I want people to listen when I say we'll test it for a couple weeks and change it if it doesn't work.

But no one didn't listen! We were all simply stating our opinions about it. I for one was offering feedback about what didn't work for me and why. And most people were saying "ok, I'll sit on it and see how it works." I don't understand what it is that made you think people weren't listening to "try it out." That's what "I'll have to get used to it" means!

I just find this whole stunt of taking it down to the bare minimum to be a rather immature way of getting people to listen to something they were already listening to. And by the way Katie, that is what I meant by tantrum. I know that's a rude way to phrase it, but I feel this is just as rude. It's like a mother saying "fine! Take care of yourselves" and making her kids make themselves dinner.

Come back to BB after being away for awhile, find a fight going on. Is this always how it's going to be? I didn't get to see what the changes looked like, which disappoints me because I feel as if I wasn't given a chance to form my opinion before we were shown the bare minimum. I really liked the old layout, I liked it a lot. It was truly awesome and I thought this was the best looking forum on the web. I would have liked to know what the changes looked like. Are we changing it back to them any time soon?

A lot of the feedback on this thread was positive. Only two or three members that I read expressed great dislike for the change. Most said they were getting used to it and were being optimistic or said they really liked it. The ones who don't like it were and are still rather vocal, this is true but mostly they are trying to help. Opinions do help and it has been said that you're never going to create something that everyone likes. But most people like or are at least trying to like it so although I do see both sides, there isn't too much of a problem here.

I don't like fighting, I don't like confrontation. In fact, all of that scares me half to death and it's quite hard for me to press the 'post' button on this because I'm afraid someone will get angry at me about something I said. I don't wish to offend anyone, never. I, myself, would like the oppurtunity to have the board changed back to the new changes and give it a week or so. I'll probably be used to it by then and if not then we can all discuss and see what is going to happen. Ultimately it is up to the mods and Darla. But I do hope we all have a say in it also.

Ok but you're saying you know your phrasing is rude and you dont care. Really? So you think she's rude so you should be rude back. Thats exactly the problem with BB!

I want the old layout back I dont want this bare minimum but if people are going to be so rude why should she give it back?

Maybe if people stopped acting like children we could stop being treated as such.

And people keeping on talking about how much they don't like something, when they've already said it a bunch of times before, is pretty immature too. We don't need to keep hearing how much people hate the new look or how much they want the old one back. It's like those same "kids" you mentioned whining over and over how much they don't like the "dinner" their "mother" worked so hard to make for them, until she's to the point where she wants to just walk out of the room and let them fend for themselves. To keep on stirring the pot just for the sake of arguing is pretty damn immature in my eyes.

Why does it matter? The forums are the same. The threads are the same. The members are the same. Why does it matter so much the layout?

... I'm trying to decide if you're serious or not. This forum has had the most themes and color schemes of any forum I've ever been on. Because of that, I would have thought that this question would just be a duh. Because in order to use the forum you have to look at it. The layout of any website is important because you have to look at it to use it.

Beyond that, the way you use the forum is different with the different features and the layout of the main page. And that makes it important.

All I wanted to say is that I think it would be a good idea for certain people to maybe let this go for awhile and us all to have a big group hug and smile. So, I would love to do what you originally wanted to do Darla because I know that's what you want. To give the new layout a try for a while because I do want to see it.

I guess one thing that needs to be said is that the reason members are being (in my opinion) irrationally angry about the change is because they care about the boards. We all know how much Darla and the mods care and we know that is why changes are made but it definitely needs to be pointed out that the members care about the boards as well. That is why people get upset about changes. Not because they don't care, but because they do.

Also, I would just like to point out my number one complaint at the moment is that Darla's Jon Bernthal/Shane Walsh banner should be removed immediately.

Every time I see it I get awkwardly distracted and excited. Just saying. Took me about an hour to read one page of this because every time it got to Darla's I got distracted.

Can we please stop arguing about the forum changes and start a revolution where we call for this banner to be removed? I would appreciate it and so would my work ethic.

I'm not seeing any smilies in posts or PMs with this clean layout. They just show little boxes with a broken image inside. I'm using Chrome, by the way. Anyone else having this problem?

Honestly, some of you whine like babies about every little thing Darla & the staff do here. It's crazy to me how ppl who have no financial investment in a board think they can dictate how its going to be run/presented/maintain & think they can dump on the staff for every thing they try to do.

im apart of message boards that would bounce ppl right on out for far less than what i've seen the staff tolerate on here. *smh*
