Where's the follow up support? Where's his sponsor? It seems like they give him a bit of rest each time and then he's just thrown back out without a life jacket.
I hope he gets the help he needs, because at this rate... 🙁
PS: I should know better than to read comments on news stories like this. Nothing like the toxic, high and mighty rants of people who no f*ck all about addiction. ¬_¬
I have this from a close friend of mine who is a recovering alcoholic, so I would think that he knows more than the average citizen about the subject.
Alcoholism is an addiction, and, just like any other addiction, there is no cure. Your only hope is to put it into remission, and the only way to do that is by the addict, himself, making the decision to never, ever, go back. No amount of doctors or sponsors can stop you from sliding back, short of locking you up somewhere, because they can't be there for you 24/7. At best, they can be on call, but a lot can happen between call and response.
It's not impossible to control an addiction, hundreds of thousands of people do it every day, but the reality is that once today is over, you have to do it all over again tomorrow.
Any sort of help that we can give him, I fully agree, let's give it. Write letters, sign virtual books, pray, anything and everything that you can do, but, above all else, pray that he finds the strength to help himself.
