Nicholas Brendon Arrested Yet Again...

I'm not so sure avoiding the Cons is a good idea to be honest....

While he may come under more scrutiny from the Press and Fans the fact is the Cons are a good source of validation of his Acting Skills and chosen Career.
Also they can be a potential outlet for Fans like us to express their Support for him.

A possible option for Nick is a type of Drug which when taken does nothing.... Until you drink Alcohol.
It reacts to Alcohol chemically and works as a very vigourous Emetic (It makes you Vomit, very strongly too.) It can prevent Alcohol getting past the Stomach essentially and also create a Negative Mental Association with Drinking that can become a self perpetuating feedback loop to aid in resisting Alcohol.

I do worry though that continued Negative Press Coverage may cause Con invitations to be more sparsely offered to him with some places trying to haggle his per diems etc down even more which could set off a Viscious Circle.

It's sad the US Govt is so Hypocritical when it comes to Controlled Substances....

Alcohol is so easy to obtain legally despite being a Controlled Substance and a known "Depressant" which causes just as much damage as Illegal Substances like Heroin, Methamphetamines and Cocaine.

Alcohol may reduce Inhibitions but it is a Downer ultimately.

Ecstasy funnily enough used to be used Successfully in the USSR as an Anti Depression Treatment yet in the USA it is an Illegal substance despite being a "Mood Elevator" known to make people feel less alone and connected.

Of course buying Ecstasy from a Dealer is of course a BAD IDEA usually due to illegality and lack of Legally Enforcable Health and Safety Regulations that keep the mixture Unsullied by nasties like Rat Poison, Chalk or something else to boost Illegal profit at the Consumers expense Monetarily and Healthwise.

If the Govt Legalised Ecstasy however with Legal requirements on Manufacturers and Suppliers to adhere to safe mixes and make Doctors calculate correct Dosages to avoid over or under medicating then many many People could be helped.

It's an appalling thing that Currently Drug and Pharmaceutical Companies are allowed to sell supposedly Anti Depression Meds like Serroxatt (Phonetic Pronunciation not correct spelling I think) which actually not only CAUSES Suicidal Feelings and Thoughts but is also Horrifically sold to Children!!

A lot of it comes down to Companies loving the Profits they can make from Name Brand Drugs with minor chemical tweaks for new Patents, together with an Economic Model that favours long term Drug Courses and Treatments that target Symptoms for Maximum Profit rather than actual Cures that adress the Causal issues/problems.

Things need to change.
Has he had much work recently? I know he's been in Criminal Minds for a while, but he's only ever been in 2-4 episodes a season.

The last thing I saw him in was a TV Movie where he played a Manipulative Stalker.
Very good Performance by Nick who portrayed Chilling and Creepy in the Character very well.
Downside is that Nick looked Terrible and despite his skilled Acting salvaging the Movie the Script was still rather weak.

I think it's the con atmosphere that gets to him more than the con itself. Lots of social drinking around him.
He is a very versatile actor. I saw him play a particularly reprehensible character in "Private Practice" a while back and he was very good at playing the villain.

I'm not convinced he is an exceptional or versatile actor. He was well suited for the role of Xander, but I haven't seen him in anything else that made me take serious attention of him. He might not be finding lots of roles for a reason. I don't think he is a Robert Downey Jr. diamond in the rough at all. I know many fans will be angry at this, but to me he is Mark Hamill all the way. They are about commensurate in their abilities. Like Hamill, Brendon has done some bit roles, and like Hamill he might move on to voice acting for cartoons or something (Hamill was a terrific Joker) but beyond that, we've seen what we needed to see from him.

Poor bloke. I really have empathy for him, he's obviously really struggling.

I wonder if there is anything that we could do as a community to help support him while he is having such a rough time with his alcoholism?
idk this hard to see or hear.

every one is different and each of us brings something different to whatever we are doing. Shouldn't judge someone so negatively because of their usefulness or how much skill u think they have but Nicholas has given a lot and he aint dead . If your still alive you never know what you or any 1 can accomplish. Look at Ben Affleck...lol

I've known a lot of people close to me with addiction problems and it's never pretty. I really hope he gets better. It's never just one thing that needs to be changed, so you can't really pin point one thing. Relationships, cons, past stuff or stuff we don't know about could all come up at any random time and early in recovery it's so easy to be triggered.

He put out a video explaining what he was going through a while ago. I think he said it wasn't an excuse for him, but he needed to be honest about it.

It explains his stutter and everything, not that trauma is the only cause.

Also, omnimercurial, regarding your previous post, repeated use of ecstasy has shown to result in the inability to feel happy by depleting serotonin levels. So, that itself is dangerous, regardless of controls. That said, I do agree with you. Antidepressants aren't fun and it's a lot of wait and see if something works, which means a lot of time and energy on medication that doesn't work for you. I've had some pretty horrid results, myself.

The stigma behind mental health and even abuse is causing a lot of damage to anyone who suffers from either. It's really sad.

I was not aware of Seratonin depletion issues but I'm always glad to learn new things and expand on existing knowledge so Thank You 🙂

I'm aware it's not a Panacea but I myself indulge in large quantities of Cooked Tomatos on a regular basis due to their inherent Seratonin content (Only gets absorbed by the Body when Hot/Cooked strangely so while Vit C Hot or Cold, Seratonin requires some Heat)

Mushrooms contain Vit D when left in a Window to absorb it so that to can help as Vit D defficiency is not only an immune system weakener but lack of adequate Vit D can cause Vone Deterioration and more saliently to this discussion, Mood Swings and is linked to Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.)

There IS bad Stigma you are correct which when combined with poor understanding by so called proffessionals and minimal treatmant options is rather sad.

I hope you yourself are doing ok as I know dealing with these things can be awful.

Often attempting to address these things can exascerbate situations due to all the Stress and Uncertainty.

I agree with you about exacerbating things, but it's probably worth it in the long run if you're able to get the support while you're going through it. Especially with the stigma around it, getting help is a sign of weakness to some even though it's about the strongest and hardest thing to do.

I've tried so many things, natural, homeopathic, as well as drugs, but nothing's really lifted me above neutral, if I even get there. I have struggle with staying on medications, which isn't helpful. But nothing's worked to outweigh side effects... I'm pretty sure my psychiatrist hates me by now because of it.

Well to be fair, he has been in rehab many times before. When I met him years back at a con he was wearing bright pink nail varnish. When some people asked why he said it was part of his rehab program in that it would make him constantly aware of his hands as well as remind him he had a problem.

So I do think he tries, but as we all know addiction is a very difficult thing to crack.

At this point, he needs to be hospitalized. Rehab isn't going to cut it.
I completely disagree. Rehab would cut it. But you have to be aware that rehab is only 30 days.. and you are not miraculously 'cured' after 30 days. He needs a (better) support system in place. For many people rehab is just a detox center. 30 days is not long enough to learn how to live your life differently, especially when you are not living your life during those 30 days.

There are long-term rehab facilities, some that have the capability of lasting up to a year. This is what Nick needs, short-term, 30 day treatments clearly aren't working for him. Like @Mr. Pole says, you aren't 'fixed' after 30 days and if you go right back into the same environment, the same problems exist. Of course, you aren't 'cured' or 'fixed' after a longer stint, either, but you will have a more stable base with which to push forward and get yourself back on track.

I think a halfway or soberhouse would be better than a long term rehab. At least then he has to pay rent, can leave and work, etc.
