I'm not so sure avoiding the Cons is a good idea to be honest....
While he may come under more scrutiny from the Press and Fans the fact is the Cons are a good source of validation of his Acting Skills and chosen Career.
Also they can be a potential outlet for Fans like us to express their Support for him.
A possible option for Nick is a type of Drug which when taken does nothing.... Until you drink Alcohol.
It reacts to Alcohol chemically and works as a very vigourous Emetic (It makes you Vomit, very strongly too.) It can prevent Alcohol getting past the Stomach essentially and also create a Negative Mental Association with Drinking that can become a self perpetuating feedback loop to aid in resisting Alcohol.
I do worry though that continued Negative Press Coverage may cause Con invitations to be more sparsely offered to him with some places trying to haggle his per diems etc down even more which could set off a Viscious Circle.
It's sad the US Govt is so Hypocritical when it comes to Controlled Substances....
Alcohol is so easy to obtain legally despite being a Controlled Substance and a known "Depressant" which causes just as much damage as Illegal Substances like Heroin, Methamphetamines and Cocaine.
Alcohol may reduce Inhibitions but it is a Downer ultimately.
Ecstasy funnily enough used to be used Successfully in the USSR as an Anti Depression Treatment yet in the USA it is an Illegal substance despite being a "Mood Elevator" known to make people feel less alone and connected.
Of course buying Ecstasy from a Dealer is of course a BAD IDEA usually due to illegality and lack of Legally Enforcable Health and Safety Regulations that keep the mixture Unsullied by nasties like Rat Poison, Chalk or something else to boost Illegal profit at the Consumers expense Monetarily and Healthwise.
If the Govt Legalised Ecstasy however with Legal requirements on Manufacturers and Suppliers to adhere to safe mixes and make Doctors calculate correct Dosages to avoid over or under medicating then many many People could be helped.
It's an appalling thing that Currently Drug and Pharmaceutical Companies are allowed to sell supposedly Anti Depression Meds like Serroxatt (Phonetic Pronunciation not correct spelling I think) which actually not only CAUSES Suicidal Feelings and Thoughts but is also Horrifically sold to Children!!
A lot of it comes down to Companies loving the Profits they can make from Name Brand Drugs with minor chemical tweaks for new Patents, together with an Economic Model that favours long term Drug Courses and Treatments that target Symptoms for Maximum Profit rather than actual Cures that adress the Causal issues/problems.
Things need to change.
Has he had much work recently? I know he's been in Criminal Minds for a while, but he's only ever been in 2-4 episodes a season.
The last thing I saw him in was a TV Movie where he played a Manipulative Stalker.
Very good Performance by Nick who portrayed Chilling and Creepy in the Character very well.
Downside is that Nick looked Terrible and despite his skilled Acting salvaging the Movie the Script was still rather weak.
