Nothing personal?

Do you also think that you're introverted? If you are, do you dislike it or do you embrace it

I've always been since ever, it's a part of my personality and I didn't really think about it negatively or positively. Though now I'd say I do embrace it - I've long lost the care I had over how other people think of me (the worrying about appearance people do as teenagers) and now just enjoy the ability and choice I have to avoid constant social interaction. Because with the internet it is constant interaction and pressure to be socialable. I feel bad for introverted teenagers these days, as they get a narrow definition of how Iife should be lived on eg Instagram and the like.

Introverts make for better partners, in my biased opinion lol.

I can't really tell if I'm introverted or it's my anxiety disorder lol.

I've always wondered the same, but then I don't think being introverted is as big a hindrance as anxiety. Anxiety is a constant reminder of tension, like an alarm going off forever reminding you to be fearful of everything lol, whereas introverts can relax if taken out of a draining situation.

As an add-on to this, if I do watch a new show, I will often wait until the entire series has aired and then binge it, so I'm not stuck watching week-to-week and can look up spoilers if need be.

I tend to do this, then I know if a show has been cancelled or if it ended as it was meant to
I consider myself awfully introverted and I hate it, I wish I could feel at ease around people instead of looking for ways to avoid social interaction.

I've always been an introvert, people and loudness get to me, but I can handle small groups and I'm getting a lot better at talking and asking for things. No chance will you get me on a stage or reading aloud.

I'm introverted and I also hate it. My current profession allows me to have a lot of alone time, but there are periods of a lot of interaction with people. I'd like something in the middle. I wish I could have a bit more interaction on a daily basis and less intense periods of interactions. And if there's a justice-demon reading, please make me less introverted!

Another introvert here! Also wishing that I weren't, my life would be much easier (I think).

I'm a Perusian from the Verusian port of Tonglo-nia. I am not an introvert, an extrovert or a ambivert, just a plain communal garden kinda pervert, as the name of where I come from suggests.

(per from Per-usian, ver from Ver-usian, t from T-onglo - nia.)

Extrovert here. Makes some thing easier but I often feel like people (esp on the internet) get judgey towards extroverts and think that we're bossy/aggressive/attention-seeking etc., when in reality we're just really friendly and like to express our opinions and talk to people (a lot).

I'm an introvert. I can be extrovert but only for short bursts. Like, on a vacation, I am the guy who wants to party every night and speak to everyone. But when I get home, I have major fatigue, my nerves are shot, and I need to lock myself away for days. When I am stressed at work or school, I may lock my phone in the drawer for the entire weekend and stay off social media so people can't contact me.

Never call me, because I never want to talk to you, but if we have a date or there is a party, I will show up with lots of energy.

Not really sure if I am introvert or just very self centred 🙄

I think I was born an extrovert, but life growing up made me more of an introvert. I'm sure many here can understand why some always wanted me to shut up. 😛

Teachers were only one of the reasons for my introversion, though I did love it when one teacher called home to complain of a drawing that "scared" her only for my father (who I overheard) mock her of being scared of a child's DRAWING (of a monster) with scathing sarcasm and how she chose the wrong profession because he knew I was far from the worst and he as a kid would've caused her to be sent to an asylum. (That same teacher also called Mom later but I didn't overhear it, just that she also mocked my teacher.) Dad did later tell me to cool it with my teachers. He did think they were idiots and didn't blame me, but he was tired of getting calls from them. (This was elementary school, btw. By middle school a system was designed that I was allowed to read and write what I wanted as long as I did my classwork and didn't participate in class discussions or ask questions. But a couple of teachers were better than this so it's not like every teacher thought I was scary or bad. One teacher even said I should be in a school for the gifted.)

And now as an adult (and often back when I was a kid), I'm different things with different people, and also different moods. Some would describe me as extroverted and others as introverted (many of both would be surprised at a lot else about me). Some who would describe me as one or the other would've described me differently had they met me under other circumstances or just me in a different mood.

It doesn't make sense to me to be in one mode anyway. Sometimes I'm in the mood for fun, other times I just want to veg. Sometimes I want to be alone in nature or in my room, or other times helping out at a social function or entertaining (professionally) at a birthday party. Sometimes I like to be alone with my thoughts and other times to bounce thoughts off others, gaining new perspectives (for me to think about when alone again). I wouldn't want to be either extreme all the time, so I like how I am now.

That said, I want it clear that I was never introverted out of social anxiety. There were and are times I'm quiet because it affects my survival (either literally when I was younger or how it might affect my income today), but that's not the same thing as fearing how I am perceived by people in general, that is I don't see myself as garbage who fears being discovered for being such, just knowing when to hold my peace. Likewise, if someone isn't in the mood to socialize, even a close friend, I don't take it personally as I know what it's like.

Introvert here. I used to manage it better when I was younger, but somehow now it gets to my nerves too easily.

Introvert too. But I can't say that I'm surprised that there seems to be more introverts than extroverts in the BB. We tend to prefer this type of interaction.

Introvert. I recharge from alone time. Doesn't mean I don't like people/parties.. just that there's usually a time limit and I need sometime to recharge alone afterwards.

Extroverts are rare. They probably make up no more than 5% of the population. I am an introvert but not from fear of interacting with other people, just from the pointlessness of most such interactions. I am not afraid of speaking in public and I was one of the engineers our sales department used to take on marketing junkets because I could speak well in front of an audience that could not be guaranteed to be favourably disposed. I have also spoken at City Hall here in Mississauga when other people were to afraid to do so.

That's great for you. In my current profession, I have to often give seminars or present in conferences and my stomach is a mess a whole week before the event. I'm not only introverted, I also suffer from social anxiety... go figure. I'd give anything to change that part of my personality, baby steps I guess.

@BuffyForever85

Nothing wrong being a introvert. Being a introvert myself, my personal quote, we are in the era were original thinking is dead. As a introvert, I can have my own thoughts and my own ideas, and I do not have to share them to anyone.

@r2dh2

I got my training in engineering design reviews where you have to defend every aspect of what you were doing and people were trying to pick holes in everything. After all, it is a lot easier and cheaper to fix problems in the design stage than the circuit board stage and reviewers had some responsibility to catch errors before they went any further.

These were white knuckle affairs that sometimes threatened to turn into brass knuckle affairs.

And I could give as well as take. The usual sequence is to have a preliminary design review where the concept is presented and the customer has to pass judgement on whether the vendor allowed to start the detailed design. Once they have the detailed design, there is a critical design review which is the authority to build the qualification test units. I once forced RCA in Montreal into two intermediate design reviews because they had made such a mess out of everything. It resulted in the replacement of the engineering project leader. I was still young and oblivious to the career carnage I was causing but I was right - they never would have got that spacecraft running with what they were doing. And worse yet, some of their mistakes could have gotten through qualification testing but caused a failure of the flight unit. Not on my watch!

Just ask yourself what could happen in your case. If someone asks a question in a seminar you are giving and you don't have the answer, you can arrange to get back to them when you do have it. If someone questions something in a presentation, you either explain it or promise to get back to them with an explanation. Unless you have made a colossal error, have no clue what the objection is or try to bulldoze your way over people, most people are more interested in the topic than the presenter. I used to be somewhat anxious about meetings with a customer but sooner or later it got to be fun. You have already been selected to represent your company at conferences and you are also the person to give seminars, so your company seems to trust you and your knowledge. Do what you need to do and you will eventually get over your anxiety.

Who else has pets? (Just an informal pool for fun)

Me! 3 Bunnies, 3 hens, a duck and a drake

I guess I am introverted in that I need time away from people to recharge. I do not dislike it. I love alone time. I need alone time. I get snappy if I do not get enough alone time.

See, sometimes I wonder about the labels slapped on me and their use in current culture. Cos if a situation stresses me and I avoid it, then there is no anxiety 😛

Also, I have zero problems with speaking or performing in front of crowds (I quite enjoy it - but prefer not to be a solo act) or being in public in general. I have found it harder living in such a small town (approx 200 people) because EVERYONE knows me and most will want to stop for a chat about the most mundane things. If I express my real thoughts on a topic, I know it will cause trouble. So my interactions are anxiety provoking because I have to watch each word I say. Many residents are older than me with what are currently considered racist/sexist/classist opinions and language. I am not about to call out an 80 year old on the culture at the time of their upbringing. To me, acceptance of differences is more important than being correct to current social trends but right now all of that is clashing and causing anxiety about the limits of respect.

I don't really like rose wine, however it's not as bad as white wine.

We won't say white wine is a clear somewhat of a yellowish tint, I'm not suggesting anything but do only like 'white wine' after a bottle of Rose Wine.
Alright, as you keep talking about pets,
I wouldn't say the peacocks in the garden are my pets but when I'm out for a wander around here and they are near we tend to seek each others company. Thing is I have two peacocks which is odd because after a bottle of Wild Turkey I have four peacocks. Either that or two of them peacocks think it fun to hide until I'm two parts gone to the wind (legless to you youngsters).
