Official Discussion of 7.10 "Bring On The Night" (UPN-US)

hmph...again, I look forward to a Buffy episode I haven't seen, and I miss it. My sister didn't even record it (as I do for her so many times...), and now I missed it...sorry, I know this is venting and I shouldn't do it, but it had to be said 🙁. Anyways, if someone wants to give me a good site for episode synposes, that would be great...😉
 
Hello. I was able to see this episode last night, and noticed several things:
1) There are several continuity errors in both this episode and the previous one ('Never Leave Me'). First off, in the last episode (NLM), Quentin calls Giles 'a former employee'. However, back in "Checkpoint", Buffy convinced him (and the Council) to restore Giles' position and pay, making him a full-fledged employee of the Council. Just because he is no longer Buffy's Watcher, he should still be employed by the Council in some form. Secondly, in this episode, Giles acts as if he is completely unaware of Buffy's original encounter with the First, but he is the person who initially informed her about the First and the Bringers; also, while it wasn't specifically stated that she told Giles about her encounter with the First, she did tell the rest of her friends about it, so it doesn't make sense that she wouldn't have told Giles about it as well.
2) It is never explained why Annabelle took off, which hurts the episode's credibility a bit because it makes her death seem like nothing more than an excuse to get Buffy beaten up by the Turok Han a second time.
3) The fact that it is never explained HOW Giles knows everything that he talks about in this episode hurts his credibility as a character, IMO. If what Quentin said in NLM was true, Giles would have had no way to know about the explosion of the council, nor would he have had the opportunity to retrieve the books that he brings with him.

He killed him a former employee because they were trying to deceive her plus he returned to England RESIGNING his watcher position in S6.
 
Okay.. after watching this last night again... I noticed something that bothers me!

If the first cannot take corporeal form it obviously should not be able to touch anything right?

Well, when the FE was in the guise of Drusilla, it touched the rock when it was kneeling down by Spike near the end. Hello? Her hand did not go through the rock. So what's up with that?
(I've also noticed that the FE in the guise of Cassie touched the touble and was sitting down, and every time we see someone that the FE is being that person touches themselves... It all seems odd to me.)

I'm beginning to think that we do not know a thing about the FE that is concrete or are these just writing inconsistencies?

Writing/continuity inconsistencies/holes. I could devote an entire post to the number of errors Joss and Co. have made in continuity as it pertains to the FE and this season as a whole, but I won't.

I do not recall it ever being stated ANYWHERE during S6 that Giles had resigned his position as a Watcher with the Council. He left Sunnydale because Buffy no longer needed a Watcher, but as far as I know, he was still employed by the Council. Rationalize it all you want. It doesn't change the fact that it's a continuity error.

I was under the impression he was fired from the watcher's council several seasons ago when Wes and Faith came into the picture?

You are correct; he WAS fired. However, in "Checkpoint" (Season 5, Episode 12), Buffy 'bullied' the Council (which had information Buffy needed and was trying to bully her into submitting to them) into re-instating him immediately, with full back pay. Therefore, at the end of Season 5, he was now officially Buffy's Watcher again; however, in early S6, he realized that she no longer really needed an official Watcher and returned to England.
 
This reminded me of something, just before the watcher's council got blown up weren't they on a manhunt for Giles? Has anyone speculated as to why this might be?
 
Not a manhunt, just looking for him as they knew that "it had started" and were wondering were he was. Bringers were killing Slayers and Watchers on a rather large scale, so it was obvious they were worried.

My opinion....not sure if I am right though
 
I would say that's correct. They found out that the 'war' has started, and since everybody was getting slaughtered, they wanted to find Giles.

Maybe because he has in some sense, dealt with the First before, in season three "Amends" telling Buffy about it and researching and stuff.. so maybe they wanted to know what exactly he knew!
