Okay, folks, sit back and get ready, cause this is going to a be a therapeutic rant. If I don't get it off my chest, I'm gonna bust.

We got a new puppy yesterday. He's a cute, friendly mixed breed (read MUTT) with tan medium length fur, a black muzzle, and a tail that just doesn't know anything to do but wag. He's playful, but in a sort of restrained way, and, like almost all babies, he plays hard until exhausted, then curls up in whatever inappropriate spot he can find, and sleeps the sleep of the totally innocent. He's a beautiful little thing, and we're more than happy to share our home with him. He came to us in a very unique way.

I have a pickup truck that has been at the repair shop for a few days waiting on parts. We went over yesterday to check on it, and, lo and behold, there on the bed of my truck was a half starved, nearly frozen little puppy that some low life, scum sucking, pig of a human had abandoned there the day before, and it was only by a miracle and some dried up leaves that he managed to survive the sub freezing temperature of the night before. Forgive me here if I sound cruel or uncaring, but I believe, and have always believed, that that anyone who would abandon an animal like that, especially one too young to take care of itself, has a very special place reserved for themselves in the Hereafter, and it's located in the hottest, driest pits of hell. I've loved animals, especially dogs and horses, all of my life and I see the abuse of either or any other animal as just one short step removed from child molestation and I will tolerate neither. I believe that it is far more humane, if an animal is unwanted, if no one can be found to care for it, it is far more humane to euthanize it in as painless a way as is possible. Nothing else is acceptable in my way of thinking.

I have tried very hard, and successfully, I see, on this format, to avoid profanity during this little rant, though be assured that mentally I have thoroughly exhausted every vile, profane exploitative that I have learned over the course of a long life associated with a very rough group of men, though I admit freely that it has been a struggle. And for those who have read this far, I thank you for your patience.

I will leave you with this quote from the late great Charlton Heston in his role as Taylor in the original "Planet Of The Apes:"

"GOD...DAMN THEM ALL TO HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

So now I know why they call you White Avenger. 😀

That's awesome that you rescued the little guy! Aww, I bet he's grateful, in his own way of course, that you let him into your home.

Even though it had a happy ending, that makes me sad/angry that somebody would do that to a puppy. 😡

I would be on an angry rant as well if I ever came across that! You are a wonderful man with a wonderful family to take that darling pup in. There is definitely a special place in Hell for those who mistreat and abuse any person or creature who is helpless to help themselves.

WA, congrats on the new addition to your home!
It's wonderful that you and your family took him in and are going to give him the life he deserves!

I can't even begin to express my thoughts on the matter but this pretty much sums it up. It's vile, disgusting, and needs to be stopped. ETA(literally as I am writing this, my dog is throwing up! Yikes!)

You've done something really wonderful! Post pictures!!

Oh my God!!! So thankful that you found him before he froze to death... I totally agree with your thoughts on people who abuse or abandon animals. That is a passion of mine and I'm so grateful for you and your wife that you took him in. Bless his little heart... I've him a hug and kiss from all of us here at BB. What did y'all name him?? You being a John Wayne fan, Duke sounds good to me. 😉

I've had a couple of ideas, but nothing really seems exactly right. "Duke" is one of the ones that I've considered. Another is "Baywoof," from "Beowulf," the legendary Norse hero, since our grandson points at him and says "woof" whenever he sees him. Beyond that, I'm sorta stuck. 64 years of naming dogs, cats, and horses kinda exhausts a man's list. If it was a "she" instead of a "he," I might consider "Miss K," not because of the "B" word, but because it's sweet and cuddly, and my grandson, Spike, seems to love it so much.

Maybe the members could come up with a few names, and we could all vote for our favorite. Do you think maybe the Buffy Boards would like to have an official mascot? I guess we'd have to talk to Darla about that.

I like Baywoof a lot. I love boy dogs with "old man" names like Ralph, too. 🙂

It is a shame humans can be so cruel.

Baywoof is a good name; if I were to get a new puppy the names I'd consider are Ace, Brutus and Buck.

You are a good man WA! Sounds like the puppy found a great home. Soooo, when do we get to see a picture of the little guy? 😀

Good on you for saving the little guy!!!

Wow, this is a great collection of quotes, patriot.
it makes me feel a little better about humanity that you would take in the puppy. i'm vegan and an activist and animal rights is a passion of mine--it's incredibly important to me. you are a good person for doing what you did.

Wow, what a terrible story, but it's awesome that you found him!

I like Baywolf, too. 🙂

However, this thread is completely useless without pictures!

I was misled and expected this to be a rant about the puppy's behavior or something. It angers me that there are people on this earth that do such horrible things. I'm glad there are people like you however, that can take in these poor animals and love them 🙂

But dude, I gotta say. Epic fail not posting pics!!! 😛

That's a terrible thing to happen to such a tiny, defenceless animal. Bless you for taking him in and giving him a warm, loving home.

However when I read this to begin with, I did expect a picture 😉 I like old fashioned names for dogs like Fred, Terry, Bert etc. Although baywoof is lovely too. I personally suggest Oz or Ozzie (buffy themed and also fairly cool)

Our New Puppy: Part 2

For those here who requested a photo of our abandoned puppy:

Hopefully, that address will work. And my thanks to all here who expressed sympathy for and shared my ill feelings toward anyone who would abandon an animal in such a way.
