Joss made the "Buffster" & w/out him... I just don't trust the girl. Or the world.

Brilliant :D
Thank you, but in actuality.

It's from Ats 5x19 Time Bomb; Illyria sneak attacks Spike and dust him while she's invisible (bitca). Shortly thereafter time is rewound and Spike's fine.

Had to vent some aggression.

Ok nevermind my comment, it's from when Illyria sneaked up behind him. I thought it looked like when Andrew was filming him, lol.

Angel ended in 2004, so there's not been a Buffyverse adaptation for movie or TV in 6 years - which is a short period.
By the way, I think perhaps a reboot is the only way to go. I don't think the idea of thousands of activated Potentials lends itself for a movie or TV show...but that might just be me. More importantly: do you really wanna look at Kennedy for an extended period of time again?

"And Buffy fans are specifically Joss Whedon fans, in a way that Star Trek fans are not—not to a person, that is—Gene Roddenberry fans. Might be a good idea to find a way of making the movie without flipping him off, you think?"

well said!

Roven added: "There is an active fan base eagerly awaiting this character's return"¦.
Uh, the character never left. Is this guy aware of Season 8? And not all of us are eagerly waiting a crappy reboot, thank you very much.

Well, this won't be canon, so I don't give a damn.

Well said. Apart from the fact that our character and verse is still very much alive and kicking there is the small matter of this "new" Buffy being a totally different character. The only thing that really will remain is the name.

I still can't imagine why Fox wouldn't sue WB to keep them from using the Buffy trademark, which they own.

I wouldn't care about this nearly as much if they weren't calling it "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," tricking people into thinking this has something to do with the Buffy that people actually watched and liked.

If it's bad, people who aren't Buffy/Joss fans will say "Wow, I don't understand why there are so many fans of this show." And if it's good, and they decide to give the TV show DVD's a try, they'll just be confused and probably upset because it's nothing like that movie they liked.

It really is a threat to Fox's trademark.

That's something I'm annoyed with. If they want to do a crappy re-make or new take of something great and do something that sucks... ok. Fine. This won't be the first time and in 90% of those cases, the crappy re-make gets forgotten in the long run. But they should stop trying to sell it for anything other than what it is. It's not "re-boot" to "jog the fan base" or to "give the fan base something to be excited about." It's a way to cash in on the vampire craze. But it's certainly not a "re-boot" because the story's not over yet. It doesn't need to be "re-booted" because we're not done getting new material on the story from the people who created it! It's like if someone tried to "re-boot" Harry Potter by writing another book before JK Rowling had finished the 7th one. It doesn't need a "re-boot." The fan base is still large, we're still active, and we're still getting new material.

Why would they? If the movie is a success it will be free advertisement for the TV series. If not, it will be probably be forgotten very quickly. I am not sure if they even can, considering the people who are making the new movie were behind the original one and got producer credits in every (or at least many, I am not so sure) episode of the TV show, never mind they took no part in creating it. So they obviously hold the right to something.

The vast majority of the people who have watched BtVS probably don't even know there is a season 8. For most fans the story is over. And whatever the new producers say, the new movie is obviously not aimed at the hardcore fans because if it was they would have hired Whedon. Or at least Noxon, Espenson, Greenwalt, Fury or someone else whose name carries some weight among the die hard fans.

I still don't see why people can't make a difference between what they think about the movie being made and what quality it might have. Honestly, with a behavior like that along with all the Twilight bashing from many Buffy fans you (general sense not meaning everyone) just sound like stubborn, narrowminded and selfish people. Show that you're better than that. I thought Whedon fans were supposed to be openminded and friendly. Maybe that's just illusion and we just want to be a closed society there nothing's changing.

The vast majority of the people who have watched BtVS probably don't even know there is a season 8. For most fans the story is over.

And even among the fans that know about it a lot of them don't care about it or count it as canon. But lets ignore that fact so we can "prove" a point.

Please don't miss
that I don't see anything wrong with hating that the movie is being made. I guess it can be easy to miss if you concentrate on the other things. Lets take what all the Buffy actors are saying. They say it won't be the real Buffy without Joss. But I haven't seen any of them saying that the movie will suck. Feel free to prove me wrong.

I am half with you Washburne, however Twilight is so beyond awful. For me hating Twilight is not about being a Buffy fan as much as about being a human person.

Thinking Twilight is awful is one thing. Telliing people they're incredibly stupid for liking it is very insulting though. And I'm not a Twilight lover.

I'm trying to think positive about the movie, made this decision this very moment. Not in the sense of wanting this to happen, but in the sense of: would it be THAT bad? And then I ask myself: what would happen to the verse, to Joss, to the verse if this movie does become a hit (say like "Twilight", even though I hate it and its craze)? What good can come out of it, or would it make it all worse? What's the worst that can happen, in your opinion?

Ok, so the movie might not suck. But it won't be Buffy and to me, marketing something as something it's not makes it suck because it's not what you're saying it is (if that makes any sense at all). As a Buffy movie, it will suck. As a separate entity entirely, I have no idea what the quality is going to be.

The worst that can happen is people start saying this movie is the real Buffy and the show sucks. Obviously these people would be people who haven't seen the show. My biggest fear is for this movie to do well and for new young people to say "This is the Buffy I like and all the other Buffy's be damned!" I'm so scared people aren't going to give the show the time of day if the movie does well.

Ironically I think it will probably suck
Obviously, it's not gonna be the Buffy we all know and love, but hey it's happening and there's not much we can do now.

I say we wait for the first cast release before we all make up our minds.
As long as they don't "Twilight" the movie, it could be okay.

We just gotta think of it as being seperate to the show.
Kinda like how the Resident Evil movies are apart from the games. Bad example, maybe...but you know what I mean. 🙂

Sure the movie will suck and not be Buffy, I have no doubt in that. I'm talking about the consequences that will come afterwards. If it becomes a big hit, if there is the smallest chance of that, and of not destroying the show Joss has built with his own dear hands, would that be so bad even if it wouldn't be Buffy? Twilight sucks (to most of us, no offense), still a hit and gets the book some good reputation points. Sure I don't want the movie at all, but if they make it anyway, do we want it to be a failure and give the show a bad name, or succeed even if suck and give the show a good name?

I know, I was responding to the doubt it will suck by Washburne and Justme

I want the movie to do Ok. I don't want it to be an epic fail that is in the news as one of the worst movies in history and I don't want it to be a huge smashing success. I just want people to generally not see it, not talk about it, and let it fade away to nothing.

OMG, you got me thinknig about the casting. What if they bring in some horrible well known and popular at this moment celebrity?? Just to drive in more people to the theaters?? Like... Lindsay Lohan???? Now THAT'S a nightmare: "Lindsay Lohan is Buffy the Vampire Slayer! Soon at the theaters!"

I think people need to get over it, honestly. We are talking about replacing Sarah Michelle Gellar and Josh Whedon, its not that big of a deal.

Look at all the James Bonds, look at all the Batmans; they are more iconic than Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

IT IS JOSS, NOT JOSH!
Personally, I hope it's one of those films that doesn't suceed in the box office, but a select few (AKA fanatics like us) love it.
I'm hoping it'll be more of a cult classic, rather than a big craptastic blockbuster that everyone goes to see.
