What's the worst that can happen, in your opinion?

That the movie is awful and that people that could have been drawn into the show won't give it a chance. But if they base a 7 year show on a movie it's their loss and they probably hadn't given the show a chance without the movie either so I don't see it as a big loss.

For those fearing that a bad movie will look down on the show because of it it's a justified opinion. I just don't share it. If the people in question can't see the difference between a show and a movie made by different people and look past that I won't give the time to try and convince them to watch it. I have enough trouble convincing people to watch it due to it's name. Thanks for that Joss. 😉

If the movie on the other hand is a success and if people will prefer that version over the show, if they give it a chance at all, I won't be that upset. Once again, their loss. To me people are allowed to have a different opinion to me even if I of course won't agree with it. The show and Joss won't lose their fans due to others liking the movie better. At worst it won't increase their fanbase.

As a Buffy movie, it will suck.

Maybe it's wrong of me but since I don't see it as the same as the show I don't have much trouble with it. But then again, I enjoyed Robin Hood - Prince of thieves too...

OMG, you got me thinknig about the casting. What if they bring in some horrible well known and popular at this moment celebrity?? Just to drive in more people to the theaters?? Like... Lindsay Lohan???? Now THAT'S a nightmare: "Lindsay Lohan is Buffy the Vampire Slayer! Soon at the theaters!"

I have a feeling they might cast 'nobodies' in the movie though, but you never know.

Yeah, I think it's unlikely.
If they got any of the main cast on board, I'd be much happier though.
Still, there must be a couple of decent choices to play Buffy. I know none of us can picture anyone other than SMG right now, but maybe someone will surprise us.
That's what I'm hoping anyway.😱

I understand what you mean. I can't speak on the Scrubs example though, as I haven't seen season 9.
But yeah, we should try and think of it as being apart from the show, and enjoy it for what it is, which is a new take on the character and the universe.

If SMG were to agree to do this movie, I'd lose all respect for her. After years of claiming she didn't want to play Buffy again in Joss projects, to have her suddenly say yes to a Joss-less version would be just tremendously insulting.

Not that they'd ask her... having her cast as Buffy would give Fox way too much legal ammunition to claim WB was stealing their intellectual property.

The response to this news around the Internet has been overwhelmingly negative. Unfortunately, I think the only thing WB will care about is that it's been overwhelming. Controversy sells tickets.

Yeah, that's true about SMG. I never really thought about it before, but it would be insulting if she agreed to do the Joss-less project.

Now I'm totally torn. About SMG. She could save the movie, but on the other hand IT IS an insult! The only solution is for Joss to make a Buffy movie on his own. But that's not happening either, so I don't know what to do. There is nothing to do.... I'm kinda upset right now, and puzzled.

First of all Buffy is not Buffy without Joss Whedon. I think a good deal of us agree on that.

So what about the rest of them? Now don't get me wrong, I love the character of Buffy. I mean yes she's annoys me from time to time, like all the characters, but I like her. But Buffy is not what makes BTVS so good and interesting. She is a part of what makes BTVS good. Willow, Giles, Xander, Angel, Spike, Cordy and lots of other characters are parts of what makes Buffy so good. This new movie won't be worth anything without those guys.

Anna Kendrick is in Twilight, am I right? I don't think that would work out well. All the Twilight fans would go see it, and claim it as their own. I think we want to keep it as far away from Twilight as possible.

I wouldn't like the last girl to be Buffy either. It's an interesting choice, and she's a decent actor, but she's only a kid really, and that's all I've ever seen her play. It wouldn't feel right.

I haven't heard of the first 2 girls, but they seem okay.

If you've already decided that everything about the movie will suck can you be disappointed? To be disappointed you must have hopes of something better right?

Maybe people aren't as convinced as they sound. 😉 Or they want to be proved wrong. Personally I might not be convinced about the actress chosen but we won't know how it'll work until we watch the movie.

Disapproving of it but watching it is the same as approving of it and watching it. WB's accountants don't care why you watched it, only that you did.

I'm curious about the cast too, but a strong cast is nothing without good writing. I wonder if they'll try to mimic the tone and the dialogue of Buffy (the tv-show) in anyway?
