Possible Storyline to Make Spike Interesting

Well we all agree that the pep-talk ally Spike is boring as hell. Also they seems to be reluctant on separating Spike from Buffy semi-permanently like they did to Angel. So what choices left?

Can't make him totally evil by accident. That's BtVS S2 Angel.
Can't make him temporarily evil by accident. That's AtS S1 Angel.
Can't make him temporarily evil by team plan. That's AtS S4 Angel.

Can't make him doing morally grey things for vengeance. That's AtS S2 Angel. Plus he doesn't have anyone to do vengeance for. After the authors kill Dawn first then?
Can't make him getting away from Buffy for Dawn. That's BtVS S9.
Can't make him under something powerful evil's control. That's BtVS S7, or at best some one-off volume material.

So.

Maybe instead of taking away his soul, how about giving him one more soul? Or 100 more souls along with memories? I know that's Alpha, but still more interesting than the current one. And some guys miss the transformation of Alpha into a good guy, why don't we do it here?

Maybe the "immortals don't change" needs some twist? Let's make Spike homosexual for REAL. Not the Spike/Xander subtext crap. I know that's Willow's sexuality all over again, but... What about this? Willow tried to turn R.J to a woman right? Can she do the same to Spike?

Or maybe the paradoxity of "character development" for "immortals" is already too much. People just want to see the comedy relief Spike all the time. I have no problem with that. Then how about making him the voice-over of the comics in the background like what they did with "In the Dark (AtS S1E3)"?

Obviously, we DON'T all agree that Spike is all that boring. That being the case, I see no reason whatsoever to change his character or story arc whatsoever.

On the other hand, if the idea is to make an ensouled vampire's story more interesting, why not simply get Angel a girlfriend? Like, maybe, Ms Cordelia Chase, former Higher Being. She's been gone for far too long.

Or maybe pair up Angel with Andrew. I bet they'd be cute together and if Andrew gets to it our brooding hero wouldn't be able to resist him 😛 'sides i wish to see Angel's reaction when Andrew reveals something shocking from their private moments before a larger audience 😀

Because Xander is going to get with Andrew. That's part of his problem now and why he broke up with Dawn. He is in denial. It goes back to his 'joke' to Willow to gay him up. He had doubts about his sexuality even then. Xander and Andrew would be the perfect couple.

I hope not. Those two are too alike for it to be entretaining. Same geek jokes, same interests... then they could just split Xander again and let him have fun.

If you've the comics at hand, go back and read the one where Xander was talking to Andrew about coming out. Look at his facial expressions and read it again thinking Xander is in the closet. It was shortly after that, if I am not mistaken, that he broke up with Dawn.
 
I am not saying it isn't possible, i am saying i wish for more contrast in a relationship. But sure, about Xander being in denial, thats plausible. I just rewatched pangs yesterday and i really enjoyed watching his expressions when he was talking with that school bully coming out.

Yes we do!
There's a big silent majority that doesn't care for good, fuzzy-soul Spike because he's an a-hole. And a boring one at that. This Spuffy storyline is just the latest example.
 
Uh, falling comics sales as soon as the two vampires show up in S8?
Als that trend continues well into S9 and 10 with the Spuffy heavy alternate covers.

Spike's abysmal sales regarding his mini-series 'A Dark Place' and the terrible 'Into The Light' which in now canon. 🙄

The more the writers foist Spike stories on people the worse its gonna get.

See, not just bias. 😉

Actually that proves nothing. The Spike fans are a communal bunch. One person buys the comic and twenty gather round in a circle to mass read it together; taking their turns, passing it from one reader to the next so they can share, in unison, the joy that is Spike. Whereas Angel fans are more solitary and loners. They each buy a comic (sometimes two to create a sense of inflated numbers among the beancounters) and then, behind closed doors with the shades pulled read the comic with white gloves so as not to soil it or let anyone see they are enjoying reading it.

Yeah, Joss Whedon and all professionals who run things at Dark Horse should retire and go home, because they are really really stupid people. Not. 😀
 
Yeah, what do we do with Spike? Mess with the soul and you get Angel, turn him into a human and you get Riley, none of which is particularly interesting. The problem with Spike is that the things that made him cool are the things that he mostly cannot do anymore. He cannot be an asshole to the gang, he cannot be evil, cannot be threatening nor aggressive, turns out he cannot even drink or smoke either. More importantly, he cannot desire Buffy in the same way he did when he was a soulless vampire - that's why Buffy/Spike seems so passionless right now.

Man, I don't know. I just want Spike to be cool.

You forgot to mention that he can't, for some reason, sleep commando anymore.
 
I will always, always prefer Spike as the bad guy. That guy in S2 who was trying to kill the Slayer and end the world and liked to torture people? I thought he was much more interesting than the Spike from later seasons. I'd kill to have that guy back.

Except, we can't actually have that guy back. Take away Spike's soul, he still won't be that guy because of the way he evolved thanks to the chip. It would take a lot for Spike to turn evil again and I just don't think that DH want to put in the effort right now to do that.

But I do agree that something needs to happen with Spike.

So nothing to do with the fact that by then so many readers had found this cracktastic piece of drivel so appalling that they'd stopped reading? To lay all that at just one character turning up at the very end (when readership had been dropping from the middle of season 8 onwards and Spike wasn't even in the damn thing) seems utterly ridiculous to me.

Any character written that dully will turn people off. It did me. But then the writing since these damn silly comics began has been sh*t. Only with season 8 has it felt a tad more like the show, but imo only a tad.
