I haven't watched his actual speech but if this article is accurate then it's going to be a real mixed bag of events when Trump takes charge. Obviously you can never believe a word he says until it's actually happened but some of these ideas seem great and others just awful. If he buries TPP for example then he'll deserve a lot of credit. Plans to combat politicians scurrying off to become lobbyists also sounds good. Both actions in theory would be aimed at reducing the corporate strangle hold on democracy, we could do with some of that on this side of the pond.

On the other side however it seems like he wants to deregulate energy production and cut business regulations. That sounds an awful lot like he has no concern for the planet or the people on it. He's also come out and said Nigel Farage would be a good ambassador. He wouldn't. Nigel Farage is an absolute disgrace who's been lining his pockets for years by stirring up hatred and refusing to do the job he was elected for.

Energy policies don't matter.

If clean energy is competitive, it shouldn't need coal/oil regulation to win. If it is not competitive after all, no subsidies or regulations can save it. Even if you ban all fossil fuels, developing countries like China and India will burn all the oil for you and gain some economy edge above you.

This may well be true but we only have one planet. If we make it uninhabitable then it won't make an awful lot of difference who has the economic edge while we're all dying. There's not an easy answer but I don't believe burying your head in the sand and saying "they're doing it so we might as well" is good enough.

I'm an optimist. I think clean energy will finally win after 10-20 year. When it wins it will win by a landslide. But I believe no policy can accelerate or decelerate the advancement of clean energy.

I guess I'm a pessimist. I suspect clean energy will be suppressed by those who stand to profit from squeezing every last penny out of fossil fuels. Without strong and leadership and global co-operation I think it'll be too late for clean energy to help.

I guess I'll be the realist then.
Even though no 100% actual proof has been found just that there is a strong possibility that smoking will kill some people. The governments say they are trying to stop people smoking.
In much the same way burning fossil fuels etc: the planet will suffer. But it is odd that many God fearing Politicians seem to be okay to kill 99% of Gods creations by creating an atmosphere that kills almost everything.

I agree that some of Trump's statements seem somewhat extreme, to say the least, but his plan to revoke Obama's Executive Directives has genuine merit. Congress writes the laws in our country, not the President. Trump hasn't made any more promises than any other President before him has. The President isn't a king or a dictator, and his shouldn't be the final word on any issue. Obama used his power of Executive Order to circumvent Congress and the procedure of passing laws and legal regulations. That makes him no different than any third world dictator.

I'm quite serious. Those operatives have a history of infiltrating groups...not only to observe, but to influence. Whether it was the Black Panthers, the hippie movement, or the civil rights movement.
If you think the American people are free to choose what happens in this country, you're mistaken. Oh sure, citizens can go through the motions and believe their decisions will affect outcomes...but it's just an illusion.

Trump says America will pull out of the TTP, but what happens if the TTP decide to operate without America. That's thirteen countries that are turning their backs on America, plus if America puts a 45% tariff on goods imported from China. A lot of American companies have invested a lot of money in China which Trump has just devalued big-time. If China gets uppity about it and with the twelve countries in the TTP.
Given the unrest in America other countries may hop on the bandwagon if certain countries oppose America.
Britain has already stated it will not replace its Ambassador to America because of what Trump said about Britain and Brexit.

Trump is correct to reject the Trans-Pacific Partnership:

1. It would reduce the required US content in cars sold as American cars from 62% to 45%. Instant loss of jobs. The Camry and the Ford Taurus are both at exactly 62% US content.

2. It would change the copyright laws to not just eliminate Chinese copies from being made of copyrighted music, movies, software etc., it would prevent the manufacture of generic drugs. This would cause drug prices to skyrocket since it would create a monopoly. There was already one case of a guy buying a drug company and increasing the cost of one injection from $150 to $600. How much more gouging can we tolerate in health care? The biggest copiers will escape - when the Israelis copied the F-16 fighter and made it the Lavi fighter and sold the design to China, no one objected. When the Pakistanis sent the wrecked Blackhawk helicopter to China that was used in the assassination of Osama bin Laden, it's not covered either. But when you include a picture from Buffy on this board, you will be presented with a bill because it will cost royalties.

3. Companies would be indemnified against lawsuits stemming from environmental destruction using taxpayer money. I could show you the site of one of the worst beryllium spills in the world, right in Toronto where it washed into storm sewers and into Lake Ontario. Companies have not shown themselves to be good citizens without being shielded from civil action; imagine what it would be like if they could do whatever they please with no possibility of having to pay damages.

One of Trump's earliest promises is that he would revoke all of Obama's Executive Orders. If he then simply issues more of his own, once more bypassing Congress, then, yes, he would be no better than Obama. don't think, however, that he will be too quick to do anything lke that, simply because he doesn't want to be compared with Obama.

The general belief among those closest to him is that Trump will approach the Presidency in the same manner as he would the position of C E O of a large corporation. He will appoint a staff of experts who will assess the existing problems and make educated recommendations as to how the problems can be handled. Hopefully, and I emphasize that word, HOPEFULLY, his team will come up with some actual solutions to our problems, and they will be able to present those solutions to Congress in such a way that the proper laws and regulations can be passed and enacted.

Will it actually happen that way? Ask me in 4 years...
