Question...do you think your buffy boards persona matches your "real life" persona?

Now that I think about it, this is the ONLY place on the internet where I think before posting. Everywhere else, I can be extraordinarily unpleasant and opinionated...but here, no.
Jumping to conclusions, going after people who've been rude, quasi-stalking those who've annoyed me...I've been banned so many times, it's amazing.
But HERE, I'm like a "normal" human being. Fascinating. I actually LIKED it here so much that I modified my behaviour. That's a first! 😉
I'm not sure if I admire you or if I'm scared of you......lol

This place is different though. I can't put my finger on what it is. I've been a member of more forums than I've had hot dinners (probably!), and yet this place is so friendly and welcoming and on other forums, as a newbie,, you really have to fight to be acknowledged or responded to, and being new automatically means you're 'not one of them', whereas with here I've felt welcomed and wanted around since day one.

Maybe it's the Buffy fandom? I'm not a member of any other BtVS forum, so I'm not sure...

Yes, with other forums, you're automatically a target when you're new. It puts you on the defensive, of course!
But this place is refreshingly...nice. Just people hanging out and chatting. No cliques, no post count competitions, etc. I really, really like it. And most especially, people here are actually intelligent.

I've never seen you face to face, but I always assume Athena is a beautiful person. It's a great name. I once had a snake named Athena, she was beautiful

And coincidentally with my scaly skin and forked tongue, I do look a little bit like a snake! 😀

Thanks though @cryptwarmer, your lovely comment made my day!

It just reiterates my comment that everyone on here is so nice. I've not even been here a month yet and I actually like you people, but you also seem to like me too. 😵

I'm visualizing you as Sally Field now. "You like me, you really really like me".

It's too funny that among Scoobies Anya behaves herself. Lol

Frankly, I AM learning how to interact with people and not be automatically defensive. After years of EXPECTING to be attacked wherever I went online, (because I was, actually) of course I'm going to be on guard and ready to strike back.
But like I said before, I much prefer being relaxed and friendly. And having intelligent people who understand words with more than one syllable is AMAZING. 😀

As a local bail bonds place out here says in their ad "We ain't mad atcha!"

It's not easy. Because you do expect to be attacked. I've been there, asked a simple question on a forum and literally been treated like the scum on the bottom of someones shoe for no reason (yeah, I never went back there again!) and then you realise, some people are jerks online. Some people revel in their status of keyboard commando, hiding behind their made up persona and talking absolute rubbish because they feel they're entitled to do so. It absolutely astonishes me how the nicest people in real life can be such total jackasses with the anonymity of the internet, because as far as I'm concerned this is me. I'm comfortable enough in my own personality to not be afraid of who I am and to not have to pretend to be anyone else.

I feel very sorry for keyboard commandos. It must be such hard work to keep up that pretense over and over. So be relaxed, be friendly, be yourself - I for one wouldn't want anything more or anything less 🙂

PS What's a sillibull? 😀

The biggest trolls are on Instagram and Twitter. However, I must admit that I'd constantly overreact when responding to them. Sometimes I'd go back and read what I wrote...and think, "Oooh. That was a bit harsh." Negativity takes so much energy.
Athena, you know what I mean about those other forums where people pick on you just because you're new...that's where I learned to strike back effectively. 😀 There was a couple of people on those forums who REALLY harrassed me a lot. Unfortunately for them, I discovered their Facebook profiles...And their photos were set to public. Magically, many of those photos ended up on porn sites. What a coincidence! 😉

Classic! Take that, keyboard commando! :-D

And you never took it down when I asked you to either.

@Athena "So that's where the name comes from" Tell me about it! I thought the name was innocuous. Furthermore, since pirates typically have a peg leg imagine my surprise when I found out the role playing and pegging they were talking about was not in regards to playing pirates.

I am on a number of forums and every one is a different experience. Some are very civilized (like this one), some are a little more free-wheeling about how people are treated and some are totally the wild west. By far, the most virulent one was Rockstar Supernova in 2006, the successor to the more civilized Rockstar INXS from 2005. There was this one guy, Levin, who was an extreme supporter of (eventual winner) Lukas Rossi. He would post new threads all the time such as "The Importance of the Lukas Rossi Performance" and "Lukas Rossi, King of YouTube" and would bomb all kinds of threads about other people with his love for Lukas Rossi. He would castigate anyone who supported any of the others and since I was a Storm Large supporter, I came in for a bit of abuse, so one time, I indulged myself with this post:

Levin’s (Almost) Girlfriend

Levin lives near a dance hall, but he rarely goes there since he has become well-known to the girls who are regulars there, and they can’t stand him. But he checks it out every once in a while for new girls and one night, a new girl arrived on the same night Levin decided to go there. But this girl was a real Amazon, pretty, but six feet tall with muscles like a lumberjack.

One of the girls at the dance hall took a look at her and said to her girlfriend who was also there, “I’ve seen her before – isn’t she a roller derby queen?”

Her friend said, “I thought she was a wrestler.”

Then they saw Levin walking up toward her. One girl said, “Maybe we should warn him – she is not someone you want to annoy.”

Her friend said, “But it’s Levin – let nature take its course. If she likes him, that gets him out of here. If she doesn’t…” They looked at each other with evil grins.

To their surprise, the Amazon left with Levin. He asked her to go home with him. On the way home, she said, “You know, I’m a wrestler.”

Levin said, “Yeah, but you wrestle girls. How hard can that be?”

The girl said, “I think you’d get a real education if you fought me.” She wasn’t expecting him to take her up on it, but Levin gave her a punch to the arm. She was surprised to think anyone would be stupid enough to start a fight with her, so she punched him back with a blow that bruised one of his ribs and knocked the wind out of him.

She said, “Your arm muscles are like overcooked spaghetti. I could flatten you if I wanted and you couldn’t hurt me.”

Levin was enraged. This… this girl was saying she was stronger than him! They happened to be walking by a road construction site where a truck was dumping hot tar on the asphalt, so he caught her off guard and tripped her right onto the street and she landed in hot tar that burned her hands. She lost it. Levin started running away. “What kind of moron are you?” she said as she caught up to Levin, flattened him down on the sidewalk. “You couldn’t hurt me in a fair fight, so this is what you do?” She had Levin crumpled up in a ball so he couldn’t move. “I want you to apologize!”

Levin said, “Don’t hurt me – I’m sorry I punched you.”

She said, “I don’t care about you punching me – I hardly felt it. I want you to apologize for burning me – the punch didn’t hurt, but tar did. So say it – say you’re sorry tar did.”

Levin said, “I am sorry tar did.”

The Amazon said, “Say it three times fast.”

Levin said, “I am sorry tar did! I am sorry tar did. I am so retarded!”

The Amazon let him up and he was never seen in that dance hall again.

His only reply was, "Dance Hall, what are you, eighty years old?" No, I just happened to be listening to Dance Hall Days by Wang Chung and there are nightclubs with "Dance Hall" in their name. Everyone else on the board congratulated me for getting the best of him but I haven't felt the need since to get back at anyone. The forum continued to get worse with accusations flying around all over. One poster had said that one guy (who lives eight miles west of Toronto and six miles west of me) was having an affair with another poster who was a single mother from Aukland NZ. Possible? Not even remotely. You would check a thread that was five pages long one night and it would be two pages long the next night because the mods were terrified that they could get drawn into slander ripped most of the thread out. Finally a bunch of people started an invitation-only board (which I was invited into and joined) where each person had to be agreed by the membership to be non-abusive. Good times! For some of us.

Yeah, everyone was surprised that Dilana Robichaud didn't get the gig. But I met Storm on a couple of occasions - very nice girl with talent to spare and a great sense of humour.

I hated Lukas Rossi... I wanted that one chick to win. Storm was good too though.
In real life I have a small group of friends who I don't really branch out from. With them I'm not shy, speak my mind, never stop talking and can be quite funny.

Outside my group of friends I'm almost painfully shy. I find it difficult to speak to other people because I'm always over thinking things, like if what I say will offend them and by the time I've thought threw things the moments passed to start a conversation. If people approach me then I'm fine and I'll follow their lead in a conversation. So I guess you could say I'm somewhat of a 'yes person' with other people. If I don't agree with them I won't put my point of view across I'll just give one word agreeable answers.

On here I feel I'm a bit of both. I think I can come across as aloof but I don't mind giving my opinions on topics and discussing things with people.
