Freddy Vs Jason (2003) ...7/10?

Is it weird that this is actually a decent crossover? Yeah, its dumb and the teen characters are classic examples of those early 2000's 'the jackasses you want to see get killed bloodily' but at least the writers know what the fans want; Elm Street, Crystal Lake and an excuse to see 2 horror icons slash each other to ribbons. They also put a modicum of effort into acknowledging the 'lore' and figuring out how to bring Freddy back; no 'dog pissing fire onto a corpse' here (yeah, that was a movie writing choice, probably one of those 80's cocaine-fuelled ones) and some of the kills are fairly OTT and inventive.
Both killers get plenty of respect- in fact Englund hasn't been this good since NOES 3- and the finale is as close to epic as slasher-horror is ever gonna get. This is a fun time for you and all your mildly drunk friends.

The Gorge (2025) - 4/10

Don’t know how they manage to make such a fun premise so dull. Miles Teller is maybe the worst possible choice for the male lead (he’s so boring 🤣). The main problem is they play it far too straight and seriously It ends up riffing off the likes of Bond, Mr and Mrs Smith and Stranger Things but much less appealing versions. The effects are poor too.

One Day (2011) - 6/10

It’s weird rewatching this having seen the show because by comparison this whips through a lot of the scenes and chapters. It plays more comedic than the series which was a bit more dramatic. Overall prefer the show but this is solid enough. Actually don’t hate Hathaway’s accent as much as some. Think it’s more of a mild accent where she has shied away from going for the full blown Yorkshire (maybe a wise choice 😁).

The Darkest Minds 6/10
I enjoyed this, a good introduction to dystopia for tweens. Didnt quite hit the mark, like, watered down, but a fun flick all the same. Liked the cast too.

Promising Young Woman 4/5
Good show. I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be a comedy when I started it, but as it unravelled it revealed what it was really about. Havant seen many movies like it, and was engaged throughout.

Satire I’d say
Cold Skin - 4.5/10

IMDB gives this a 6.0 rating which is a bit generous. This is the story of a weather officer assigned to a remote outpost on the Antarctic Circle only to find that he has to defend the installation from amphibious humanoid creatures who come out at night intending to kill them.

Ghost (1990) - 7.5/10

Some dated elements, but overall this one holds up pretty well, and for what its doing is an effective film. Remember seeing it in the cinema age ten and it freaking me out 😀

Boys on the side (1992) 5/10

Anyone who has seen this movie will understand my level of confusion, watching it.

I thought this was gonna be a fun movie. It had Whoopie Goldberg, Mary Louise Parker, and Drew Barrymore. Seemed like a fun road trip movie. It was not. It was a goodish movie, very moving at times but also strange.

Basic plot: WG and MLP are strangers deciding to travel across the country together for reasons. One is a free-spirited lesbian, the other a stiff WASP. On the way they stop by WG’s friend , Drew B, who is in an abusive relationship. They end up accidentally killing her boyfriend, with whom she is pregnant (it turns out it wasn’t his)

Up until this point the movie has been a road trip movie.
At this point it shifts gears. It is revealed that MLP has AIDs. Then we’re several months into the future and they’re all living together in the South, having a whole community that loves them. Whoopie is unhappily in love with MLP.

DB eventually admits their crime to her new cop boyfriend, and the rest of the movie is her murder trial and MLP’s slow match towards death.

… it is a nice movie about friendship and love, but it is scattered, strange, and a bit confused overall. I am not sure what this movie was really, but it did make me cry and the actresses are great.

I can see however why I had never heard of it.

The Monkey (2025) - 4.5/10
This was so dull😆 The characters were very annoying (there was a lot of stoner looking dudes doing a lot of mumbling). The Wes Anderson style voice over did my head in!😌 The main problem is comedy just isn’t this directors strong suit.

Heart Eyes (2025) - 6/10
Solid enough and quite adorable. Olivia Holt (Cruel Summer), is a watchable lead.

Companion (2025) 5.5/10
Okay. But ultimately I was surprised by how predictable this was. People were raving about its twists and turns and...meh, not really. This was merely...solid. Elevated by great turns from Sophie Thatcher (one to watch since she's great in everything I've seen her in) and Jack Quaid (who is in serious danger of getting typecast as 'the crappy antagonist-boyfriend' because he's very good at it) but I wasn't really on board with the 'robots are people too' aspects of the film. The humans were awfully crappy, true, but doesn't mean I have to root for programmed sex-bot simply because it can 'act' like a human.

Mosquito Squadron - 7.5./10

IMDB only gave it a 5.7 rating but it is better than that. The story revolves around a V1 test station located in an old chateau in France. It looks like an exacting but ordinary job to knock out its underground manufacturing facility, but a complication is thrown in. In a Luftwaffe attack on the mosquito airbase, a Nazi aircraft drops a film canister showing POW's being loaded into the chateau. The bombing has to go ahead regardless, but one squadron leader comes up with an idea to let the prisoners escape before the chateau is bombed. Everything you want in an action movie.
