HOWEVER, I just can't see it as anything other than an "inspired by" to the franchise, like comparing Deep Space 9 to Babylon 5. It's noticeable, no point in trying to hide it, but still too different. Maybe comparing/contrasting the Friday the 13th franchise to Halloween (but I like DS9 vs B5 better).

Also, I did watch this all the way through and enjoyed the more "personal" elements that made me care about the characters more, but I doubt I'll watch it again or the sequels they teased. (Whereas I'll likely watch those with the character of Ash in it again, but at this point it's more gory humor than horror.)

And the fun goofiness that is part of the franchise isn't here. If you want that, go back and watch ED2 or Army of Darkness (or even that 3 season series).

I don't mean to imply one is better, they both have ways that outshine the other (and so which I actually like best is going to depend on my mood), though I will say I'd have preferred if they made it a separate franchise.

Meh . Director Guy Ritchie does frame a lovely shot but there's something forgettable about this story .Lacklustre use of the IP .

The Iron Mask (2020) 6.5/10 Wildly ambitious Chinese/Russian/American historical fantasy . Jackie Chan and Arnold Swarzneggar feature . Fun to watch .

I forgot I'd seen The Man from U.N.C.L.E. film...
Matilda the Musical, I haven't seen it on stage, but enjoyed it. I still prefer the film version, as I think it built up Matilda better, this added bits that weren't needed, and really the time on that could have been used to build up the relationship between Matilda and Miss Honey.
 
Coherence (2014): 8/10

This is just too hard for me to explain without making it pointless, and I found the trailer unhelpful (though Nicholas Brendon is one of the actors, and seemed to be based on his actual person, not that such is shown in the trailer other than his being there).

I liked it because it did a lot with minimal budget (it's actually painfully amateur at first, and I'm not certain if it got better after the first 10 minutes or so or if I just got used to it--also don't know if they were also trying to make it as "normal" as possible by deliberately doing it this way or not, as it seemed once the power goes off and they're then in twilight zone land, it's different, like a way to make it FEEL more alien, and also subtly underscore the growing paranoia and anxiety). I think it's well done once started in a way that's extremely rare for time travel and alternate timelines...I honestly don't know if a rewatch would cause me to see a lot more holes in it, or make it appreciate it all the more.

There was some indication that a couple of characters have shifted universes even before the in-universe explanation is given, so that we never actually get to know the "baseline" characters. I'm not sure if this is deliberate or not, but it added to the creepiness of it for me.

Violence, lust, romanticism is minimal, and no real CGI (maybe the comet, I don't know), so that would be a minus for some, but I found it a nice change of pace. Even the horror elements were light, and yet it goes from mildly creepy to deeply unsettling.

But overall, I'm impressed that they did so much with so little.

It actually feels like a classic Twilight Zone episode, one that is meant more to inspire disturbing thoughts on a universe we still know so little about, and if we're even "real" or not, or as good as we think we are, or are the ones the OTHERS should be worried about...just stretched out to an hour and half rather than a half hour.

Still, unlike many movies, I don't think they could've trimmed much without it making no sense at all (or at least feeling rushed rather than little it creep over you little by little, it's not made for jump scares or get the adrenaline pumping).

I just can't believe I never heard of this until recently.
 
The Pit and the Pendulum (1961) - 7/10

Urban Legend (1998) - 4.5/10
Overall pretty lame and dull post-Scream slasher. It has a descent gimmick but doesn’t do much with it. There’s the odd bright spot like the casting of Robert England and Brad Dourif, the opening of the film and the security guard character.

Sissy (2022) - 7/10
One of the better Shudder Originals, really worth checking out.

I watched this movie to just waste time but honestly this movie was amazing it started Ryan Gosling and great for action lovers and a little gore but overall I would definitely recommend
 
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 6/10
If you want a good score off me , avoid killing cute things as part of the story . Otherwise a decent cash-in thrill ride .
 
The Flash - 6
The middle of the film was an enjoyable, funny 80's style adventure but it took a while to get going, the special effects were awful and the third act was dull and clunky

Asteroid City - 7.5
This is probably the most Wes Anderson-y film he has ever done so will not win him any new fans but it is very funny in parts and there is such a compelling rhythm to the way the film flows while dealing with his usual themes of order, loneliness etc. Or maybe he is just taking the piss now but I enjoyed it either way !!
