United 93 - 8/10

A harrowing but very good look at the passengers who revolted against the hijackers on Flight 93 on 9/11. Powerfully acted and directed and definitely left an impact, but is also one of those films that you kind of never want to watch again because of these intensity.
 
Ginger Snaps Back: the Beginning. 9/10

I was surprised I liked this as much as I did. I guess part of it is how it made me want to play 2e Ravenloft D&D again (just some easy cosmetic changes) or read the old novels. I could go into the elements I like, and why I liked it better than Van Helsing (not that I disliked VH) which came out in the same year, but I can see why others wouldn't. And one reason I love it is too much of a spoiler.

Still, I'm glad that they resisted the temptation to make more in the franchise, and hope they don't reboot it thinking "all it needs is a ton of modern CGI to fix it."

But I will say that this is different in tone from the first movie despite some similarities. I love the first one as well, but the tone and style is different despite having a similar story. The first one was more artistic, meta, and comedic satire. This was more classic horror movie. (And takes place back in the pioneer days, though the same actresses as the first movie.) I can see the movies being linked all the same, the curse manifesting again in modern times.
 
Velvet Goldmine 7/10 - been meaning to watch this for the longest time. Didn't realise Christian Bale was in it!

Some issues with the story and the way it was told dragged the film down.
 
Scooby Doo and the Krypto too!- 7/10
Cute little crossover movie. The Krypto dog was brave and it was good to see Scooby have a fellow dog friend. The ending went a bit awry with the villains.
Overall I enjoyed it.

X: The Unknown (1956) - 4.5/10

Just about worth it for a couple of cheesy reaction scenes, and fun gooing practical effects (the Monster substance, whatever it was meant to be look more like a pile of poo 😛), but not much else. It came out the same year as The Ten Commandments. That film was 222 Minutes, this one was 76. Can you guess which one was more of a slog to get through?😉
 
Lego Scooby Doo Hollywood Beach Bash- 6/10

Fun little adventure, the lego rides look fun and the animation looked beautiful. The jinkies dance move looked fun. The mystery was predictable but the lego characters made it cute and fun.

I saw this yesterday. It wasn't great. I actually got bored and almost fell asleep.

The first one was too boring for me to consider watching this, especially in the cinema. The nun was better in the conjuring
The Little Mermaid (2023) - 2/10

Terrible Live Action remake, lifeless and dull with little to no characterisation for anyone; Ariel is a pale shell of her cartoon counterpart, Triton is pathetic and Eric is kind of a wet sack. No one has any chemistry and therefore none of the relationships hold any weight. The songs are all underwhelming, the under the sea parts are either too dark to see anything or just lack colour and vibrance and I truly hated the CGI designs for Flounder, Scuttle and Sebastian. The only saving grace was Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, that woman was giving it her all and she was fantastic. But everything else was terrible and an insult to the original amazing film.

Night of the Creeps (1986) - 7.5/10

Silent Rage (1982) - 6/10
A Chuck Norris film which feels more like a B-movie crossed between The Terminator and Frankinstein and the better for it. Drags a bit in places, but pretty solid.

Also caught the last hour of The Stepfather Part 3 which looked like solid trash. Talking Pictures TV is Godsend right now since I have no Internet
