Think the key is that Affleck is well cast as a bland everyday guy. He is someone like Eastwood who will go on to have a much more interesting directing career IMO, but sometimes there are characters which are just made for him like this. Also, because most the depth comes from the Amy character then Affleck does not have as much to do as Pike which is a good thing. Didn't notice them being nervous during the sex scenes but then maybe I wasn't looking out for it.

I agree. I didn't dislike Affleck in anything I've seen him in, but I really love the movies he's directed, Gone Baby Gone, The Town and Argo. His brother is a better actor, in my opinion.

If you want a cute romantic movie - look to the 80s 😉
It was charming and entertaining, first sight of pretty much everyone was "oh my god, so young!" (mostly Vincent D'Onofrio) and just... cute and simple. I enjoyed it 🙂

I did enjoy this movie but its one where you don't realise you have been sucked in until its too late lol... Nice ending...

Funny and unpredictable with a great cast and awesome effects.

This is one I need to revisit because lots of people I know seem to really like it. It left me totally cold, and was just a one note film, which wasted most of the cast.

"King Solomon's Mines" (1950) with Stewart Granger and Deborah Kerr (Shoot me, I like classic movies)

It's always a treat for me to see a movie where the actors get by more on their acting ability as their prettiness, and there is an actual story to be told. My only complaint is that Mr Haggard's book was much better than the movie, which is a common trait of all movies based on books.

7/10 "Edge of Tomorrow"

This is a story of an alien invasion where several people have the ability to reset the day but one character has lost the ability due to a blood transfusion and another carries on but also loses the ability before the big showdown. Tom Cruise has his usual encyclopaedia salesman smile, as fake as can be. This story solves some of the problems with some Buffy stories - how to acquire and lose a supernatural capability thereby putting a character at real risk.

Will have to track that down. Have only seen the 80s version with Sharon Stone which I don't remember being that great. Love Deborah Kerr!😛

I was beginning to think that I was all alone in feeling totally underwhelmed by this so called "blockbuster."

I second that. It's complete crap and it's criminal how many good films fall under the radar because this piece of 'horse hooey' (to quote Willow) gets all the promotion. There's no story, no chemistry, no nothing. The writing is awful and the actors are just two nobodies with zilch by way of acting talent. I really am failing to understand why anybody would pay cinema prices these days to sit through 3 quarters of cringe worthy soft core porn.

Pet Sematary - 7/10

Last movie I saw was a re-watch of Pet Sematary. I'd give it a solid 7/10 just for making me cry lol. I love the story, any adaptation of a Stephen King novel is usually good owing to the quality of the source material. I loved how the movie is fundamentally supernatural as is common with King's work however deals with the absolution that is death. Having lost my own dad at a young age I really felt for the family in the movie and some of the scenes with the dad holding the lifeless body of his little boy and carrying him home were just heartbreaking...especially when he had to kill him again. Him sitting there watching his son helplessly die again because he couldn't bring him back how he was was so despairing. The opening scene was so atmospheric with the music and panning slowly around the pet graveyard. I thought it was really well done. The Zelda scenes were just as I remembered them so many years ago...scary as hell even to this day. Although those few scenes are really the only creepy parts to the movie, it's still a classic and I think it was actually incredibly moving and thought provoking as far as horror movies go. Also great to see Herman Munster!! 😀


Survival Quest - 7/10

Lance Henriksen is my favourite actor - no matter what he does he is just fantastic. I stumbled across this movie and loved it. I'm not entirely sure what I would class it genre wise, probably a thriller suspense or possibly mild action. The story centres around a group of unlikely individuals who all choose to participate in a survival scheme programme led by Lance Henriksen's character who spends all his time out in the wilderness. The participants are all people who you would expect to be useless: a criminal, divorcee, old man, nerd etc however all come together and learn to trust one with the help of their instructor. They're sharing the time with another group that are all about survival of the fittest and naturally the two groups come to blows which of course ends in disaster. I found this movie entertaining and really uplifting at the same time. Any story surrounding an underdog is always good and I thought the movie was shamefully overlooked and underrated - probably owing to the time it was released when a lot of good and similar movies overshadowed it. My only complaint is it could have done with a bit more blood and gore and possibly more emphasis on the suspence and hunter/hunted aspects as well as the bonding which is nailed. Again..Lance is a legend 😀


You're Next - 8/10

Another underrated and little known recent slasher movie. In terms of the scares and storyline it's all pretty cliche but I found this movie really fun. I watched it with my best friend who thought I'd like it and I did 😀 It could have been a lot scarier BUT it was funny and I found so many parts hilariously silly and over the top that I didn't really mind. There's a twist at the end which (if you've seen enough horror movies as I have) you'll get pretty early on but it's still nice to see how it pans out. The masked killers were pretty original and I loved how it set up the family at the dinner table and just went crazy from there on in. It was so fun and the kills were gory, creative and over the top - as they should be! Overall it's not that scary but it's fun to watch and doesn't take itself too seriously. The lead actress (can't remember her name) was great and I look forward to hopefully seeing her in more stuff. 
It's definitely love or hate I think. It could have been made a lot better but it's a guilty pleasure of mine and I always found it oddly endearing because of the actual story. But I do understand why people don't like it.

Run, Lola, Run: 10/10

How did I not know about this film until recently? My friend introduced me to this amazing German film not too long ago, and I loved it from the very beginning. This is an existential piece, using multiple viewpoints, and different outcomes that come together in this fantastic tale of a woman who needs to obtain 100,00 in twenty minutes to save her boyfriend's life. This was tailor made just for me. It's funny, thrilling, sad, and exhilarating all at once.

Superbad - I haven't seen this in ages. I still don't think its that freaking amazing like a lot of people do but it is pretty funny 7/10

Planet Terror - I'm not a big Robert Rodriguez fan, but I do love the fact that he loves John Carpenter, which is obvious in this movie. Plus I just love all the over the top cheesiness and the gore 😉 7/10

I thought it was a good adaptation of the book - initially I was sceptical of certain exclusions but it wasn't really noticeable in the story so those were clearly good cuts!
I did find the tempo a bit too slow and meandering at times (though conversely the ending is very rushed), but I kind of felt like the books were the same, there's a lack of direction and purpose. That said, it is pretty much an exposition movie, setting up the characters of a series so I really do hope they make the sequels (not looking like it right now because the ratings are too low). It was cozy to watch and the acting (save the woman who played the principal) was good. If I had been a teenager I think I would have liked it a lot more.

You probably haven't because they're not that big outside of Sweden.
It's YA novels about a group of girls (and a boy) who discover that they make up a magic Circle who need to stop demons from destroying the world. It's a pretty basic set up 🙂

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me - 7/10
I didn't like this quite as much as the series, although it was very interesting to see the events leading up the the series. However, I was slightly disappointed when the complete focus shifted to Laura. I would have liked to see Cooper investigate the other cases, and what happened to him and Windom Earle, which I thought would be the focus of this film. I also like that it was a lot darker and more disturbing than the series.

Lost Highway - 7/10
One of the weirdest films I have ever seen. And I like it. My rating is only preliminary, because I honestly have to watch this film again to really say how much I liked it.

I didnt think it was a bad thing.. but I am sure that if people were expecting it to be like the series they might find the description of disjointed, um, generous. 
Besides.. the movie had Lil, so.. ya know.. that scene was gold
