Insurgent - 4/10

I watched the first film when it came out and thought it was alright but nothing special. This one is almost instantly forgettable and a bit dull. The lead characters Tris and Four are just kinda there going through the motions, you don't really like them or care what happens to them. The whole thing comes across as a poor mans Hunger Games.

Home - 1/10

My bad run at the cinema continued this afternoon. My partner thought the trailer for Home looked entertaining so we checked it out. We left within an hour I believe. This was boring and made no sense. Clearly just hoping to sell alien toys to children.

I appreciate that I'm not exactly the target audience but there's no reason films aimed at children have to be awful. Toy Story and Shrek being obvious examples and recently I thought both How To Train Your Dragon films were great. So avoid this even if you have kids, they deserve better.

Magnolia - 8/10
Wow! Have to watch it again. I can't really form a definite opinion yet, as there's so much happening and a lot of weird stuff as well, but the actors' performances were fantastic. Tom Cruise, who I generally don't exactly like, was amazing in this film, and so was Julianne Moore.

Magnolia - 8/10
Wow! Have to watch it again. I can't really form a definite opinion yet, as there's so much happening and a lot of weird stuff as well, but the actors' performances were fantastic. Tom Cruise, who I generally don't exactly like, was amazing in this film, and so was Julianne Moore.

It really is unlike many films you will ever see. The use of music is fantastic, and fairy tale elements weaved into the darker material was very impressive. Great cast and I agree it was a great bit of casting with Cruise.

Approaite Behaviour (2015) 7/10

Decent indie feature about an Iranian woman trying to find her feet education/career wise, while dealing with her families more traditional attitudes towards her sexuality. It follows a long term relationship she but how unsettled her life is as she constently has one night stands etc... The leads are really good, but sometimes the humour felt forced, the flow was nice and natural, but it was hard to care about the characer at times, and it could have been a bit more funny, but overall I liked it.

Jumanji - 7.5/10

After walking out of Home we went back to our place and thought we'd try out a classic kids film instead. This was much better. It's an old film but I think it holds up pretty well, only a few times was the CGI a bit ropey. All in all it looked really good in HD and it was great fun hearing the stampede crashing around. Definitely benefits from new surround sound options and larger screens. The story is fun and even a little edgy for a children's market. Nothing mind blowing but very enjoyable.

I have a Cineworld Unlimited card. Means I pay £16.40 per month and can see as many films as I like. It's good value if you're likely to see more than 2 films a month. It does mean I get to see a lot of films with my partner and if both of us decide a film is rubbish we don't feel bad walking out. We can always go straight into another film while we're there if we fancy it. Usually though she's picked the low quality film and I endure it, while my choices are 90% awesome 😎.

Jumanji is a Joe Jonston film. Like I say nothing ground breaking but it's fun. It's all about surviving a game full of wild animals and hunters. Loads of carnage and amusing moments. I'm not the biggest family films fan, I tend to groan a little if I see a rating under 15 flash up at the cinema. I do have a few favourites though. I love the Back To The Future trilogy. Always makes me smile and can re-watch it, including the anniversary showing at the cinema. Jurassic Park is another favourite that still holds up well. I liked Hook as a kid, haven't seen it in a long time. Recently I was really impressed with both How To Train Your Dragon films, I'm always recommending them to people.

Well I prefer going to my local picturehouse is the only other thing. But you tend to get a good range at Cineworld too and I think I would go pretty often if I had that card.

Ginger Snaps - 7/10

I thought it was pretty good, I'd watch it again. I like the teen drama mixed with a supernatural aspect. It was a pretty cool take on werewolves. Kind of reminded me of Buffy the early seasons. Supernatural metaphors for teenage problems. And some good humor with the mom character, which was needed to break up all the drama and death talk. So overall good movie. And Ginger was hot until she turned crazy and wolfed out. lol

You're a lil too excited. lol. I couldn't find the sequels online, but I'm curious to see where it goes. I'll try and get my hands on them. And hairy werewolf girl is a lil too kinky for me, I'll stick with her normal (human) look. lol.

Ya, the movies are hard to find online 🙁 I tried looking it up and couldn't find it. The second one is on Youtube but you gotta pay for it. I wish they were on Netflix. You can find the third one in Youtube for free though, just put Ginger Snaps Back the Beginning full movie, looks like some people managed to upload it in parts. (PS, you don't need to watch the second first, the third is unrelated).

Yea I don't mind paying. I rented the first one online for like $2.99, not bad. I'd prefer to watch the second and then the 3rd, I like things in order. lol. But I''ll check them both out and let you know.

Looper (2012) 7.5/10

Really inventive, stylish and a tad bit confusing Sci-Fi drama. Its nice to see Willis back doing the brooding action stuff (which he still does well despite his age), and JGL, Emily Blunt and Jeff Daniels all do a fine job too. Overall a throught provoking and exciting film.

 

[Faith Monroe]

(the new version) Cinderella: 9/10, a lot better than I expected from a Disney remake, it was really glamorous and sweet, and the storyline was very close to being identical to the original.

Heathers: 8/10: I enjoyed the dark humor in this one, and the violence of the killings really didn't get to me. It was actually really enjoyable.

I saw this one yesterday. It does exactly what it says on the tin. A straight forward remake of the cartoon with actors. There were a few laughs and it was easy enough viewing. The costume department were having a right laugh. Check out the Princes trousers. Anyway it was probably fantastic for small girls and Disney princess fans.

Get Hard - 8/10

My choice of film today. Will Ferrell doing what he does best. Making an hilarious film. The whole thing is stupid and over the top and thoroughly enjoyable. You're laughing throughout and the scene with the whiteboard near the end is just brilliant.

The Hanging Tree (1959) 5/10

Pretty bland Gary Cooper Western which me and my Mum watched just as something light to pass the time this afternoon. There are some amusing moments, and it is watchable enough, but does drag on and seems a bit dated now.
