As in washed up 90210 star Iain Ziering?😱 Now if it had been a washed up Melrose Place actor then I might had been interested😉 Also wheeling out Hasselhoff just for the noveity and for him to prove he has sense of humour after all is becoming a little cliché now😀

Murder in the First (1995) 7/10

A strong and engaging true life story, the period details are nicely reproduced, and the details of the case make it a noteworthy film, but at times it was a bit too melodramatic and Kevin Bacon's performance was a little too showy and hammy (pun not intended😀), but the likes of Christian Slater, Gary Oldman and William H. Macy are excellent. The ending tried to tie things up a bit too neatly, but really worth seeing.

Montage of Heck (2015) 5/10

The newest documentary about the late Kurt Cobain. Wasn't great. Wasn't anything really. If you've read up about the guy then you'll learn nothing new from watching this. The biography, Heavier Than Heaven by Charles R. Cross, offered more information, insight and history. The only positive for me was seeing unseen footage of Kurt and his infant daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, together.

I never saw the first Magic Mike movie, but I wanted to have a night out with friends and this is what everyone wanted to watch. 🙂 It was surprisingly awesome; it was funny, sexy, and also romantic. It wasn't made to be considered fine cinema, but I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would- and not just for the hot bodies. 🙂

But isn't the first film more romantic, because at the end of that Mike actually choses the love of the girl over his career as a stripper. I haven't seen this one, but I don't see a lot of point to it, everything to be said on this subject was said in the first movie and should have been left at that.

I've read Heavier than Heaven, the problem is that a lot of the information comes from Courtney and is extremely biased. She tries to make it seem like she was constantly going to rehab and making him go to rehab, yet HE was the one that kept pulling HER back in. That's bull. They were both junkies that were bad for each other's habits. I think there is useful information to be found in the book and it's certainly better than many other bios, but the fact that the author depended on Courtney Love for a lot of information makes it, by default, biased and frankly untrue at times. And I could've done without the author waxing poetic about Kurt's "final moments" at the very end.

Courtney Love is a compulsive liar when it comes to this time in her life because she did a ton of drugs and always tries to retell history to make it seem like she didn't do nearly as many as the media would have you believe (she did, hence Frances Bean being taken from them by DCF). Every bio out there is not fully truthful, you have to take them for what they are.

Come As You Are also suffers the same fate about trying to cover up just how bad their drug problems were. That book came out in the midst of the media drama about their drug problem as a couple and directly after Frances Bean was taken from them. It's constantly brought up in the book that they're clean or the media is just lying. When you consider the context of when the book came out, these parts are essentially propaganda (and also blatantly false). Still, the book is an excellent bio on the band. You just have to be careful going into anything Kurt Cobain related because they all have their fair share of falsehoods. biases, and embellishments.

I'd say Heaver Than Heaven and Come As You Are are the perennial starting points for anyone that is hungry for more knowledge about the band and Kurt Cobain, but anyone picking these books up must be aware of the issues I have voiced in this post. I found Heavier Than Heaven to be a great source of information on Kurt's life pre-Nirvana. Come As You Are also goes into detail about this too, but the information on the band's history in his particular bio is simply invaluable. Michael Azerrad went above and beyond, and most of his writing is based on interviews with the band. I've seen a lot of buzz about Everett True's Nirvana bio too, but I haven't read it for myself yet.

We'll never know the full truth of Kurt Cobain's life and many events will forever be shrouded in mystery. Even he was a story teller that constantly embellished his own life or outright lied, like that bit in Montage of Heck about going to the train tracks, out of his own mouth.

From this point on, nothing about Kurt Cobain will introduce anything "new." We know all we are going to know, and many things will be left untold.

Yeah. I'd say I was always very aware they were addicted to drugs and that Love lied through her teeth. Heavier Than Heaven was a great biography on the band, I agree. Even if it was all mostly fabricated tales from Cobain, you could look at HTH as a story, that made it readable.
To be honest, I've never really enjoyed finding much out about the artists I respect, political views, personal problems, etc etc, it has a way of ruining something you held quite highly.

My dad's friend was quite friendly with Kurt though, and he said he was a very likeable guy. He was all about the music.
 
Sunset Blvd (1962) 10/10

The first of two classic film screenings. The script for this Hollywood satire is razor sharp, and one of the best in terms of pacing and character from that era. Wilder's direction is perfect, and it merges melodrama, thriller, comedy and even a bit of romance tightly. The performances are excellent too, and its good to have some contrasting female characters who actually drive the drama on in places, even though it is basically a male in the lead role.

The Breakfast Club (1985) 8/10

Like the previous film the first time I have seen this on a big screen and it is even more eye catching and powerful than on the small screen. A true original for teen films at the time which balances comedy and drama very nicely, each character actually subverts their stereotypes, the casting is just about spot on, and the music is cool and cheesy in a fun way. Puts about 90% of modern teen films to shame.

The Legend of Barney Thompson (2015) 5.5/10

Right this one was a bit different😀 Its directed by Robert Carlyle and stars him and Emma Thompson, its a black comedy set in Scotland and felt like it was trying to be mix between Pulp Fiction and Trainspotting. I wanted more from Thompson she just transformed herself for the part and was just really funny and had some great scenes with Carlyle. The jokes were very hit and miss, and after awhile some of the stereotypes got a bit annoying, Ray Winstone seemed to be phony it in, but the second half was better with a fun twist and some darkly twisted humour. Nice soundtrack too.

Pretty good zombie flick, much more realistic than most zombie apocalypse movie, I think if ever there was an outbreak, that's basically how it would be dealt with. Arnold does a fin job in a more serious role, although at times it's hard to take him seriously with that accent, but that's not like it's his fault.

The Hunt (Jagten) -9/10
Not a feel good movie at all, but it's realistic, and very sad. Mads does a fine job, he's a great actor. And it's not a topic that I've seen explored before. It's about an innocent man being accused of pedophilia, and the damage it does to his reputation, and his family. It's a really sad movie, and although it has a semi happy ending, it shows that once the damage is done, it can never be fully repaired. This man's life is essentially ruined. It also shows the power adults have over children, and what happens when a case isn't properly dealt with. Anyone that knows anything about investigations of child abuse will recognize that these are the consequences of not following proper protocols.

Flu (Gamgi)-7/10
The first 3/4 of this movie is A+, but the ending basically turns into a Hollywood trope. With a more realistic ending, I would have given this a higher rating. Still, it was at the very least an entertaining movie, about an outbreak of mutated avian flue that is quickly spreading through a town of South Korea. After being put under quarantine, things quickly escalate into chaos. But seriously, the ending will just make you wonder how it is that the main character never got sick, while everyone around him is dying left and right.

What accent is Arnie supposed to be doing in it? I heard that it wasn't as bad most of his recent films, and might be worth a look.

Yes! Great film a really tough subject was handled very sensitivity. Really was very gritty and powerful too and the acting is spot on too. You should also watch Festern by the same director if you have not already.

I just mean Arnie's natural accent. I dunno, I guess it's just because I got used to his Austrian's accent just sounding really badass in action movies, too badass to play a sensitive daddy lol.

I heard about Festern, well I looked it up after having watched the Hunt. It's on my list of stuff to watch, but I gotta be in the mood for it 😛 They're not exactly light hearted movies.

Yeah, but its not the same thing. The Batman films were reboots and you certainly couldn't say they were anything like the previous films. And careful you affend the nerds with talk like that😉
