While We're Young (2015) 7.5/10

Latest from Noah Baumbach. Some of his films I really like such as The Squid and the Whale and his last one Frances Ha, but others such as Margot at the Wedding and Greenberg I have found really annoying and self-indulgent.

Anyway, this is on the higher end. Its a sharp satire about growing how relationships change, and whether the other use of technology is making it harder for people to create true art, and also be true to themselves. Ben Stiller and Noami Watts make for a convincing couple, and both manage to blend the comedy and drama very nicely. I think Stiller's character might be one of his best ever. The film was mostly played for laughs, but the later half was darker and quite subtle too. I did find the Adam Driver character a bit too annoying, and maybe the writing for the females didn't quite match that of the male characters. Amanda Seyfried was given very little to do which was a shame. But yeah really worth seeing.
 
The Duff - 6/10

It's an entertaining enough Teen Comedy. Nothing that hasn't been seen before but there are some good lines in here. There's not much to say about it really, predictable but funny. The emphasis on social media is a bit tiresome for us older folks!

Age of Ultron - 6.5/10

It feels like we might have reached the Super Hero saturation point now. There's some funny lines in here. A few decent action scenes and it's entertaining enough. That's it though. It feels just like every other film and the plot is even thinner than usual. Possibly my fault for seeing all the Super Hero films when they come out but I'm beginning to lose interest. 
@Mr Trick it's not really my type of film but I enjoyed it for the most part. I think for the target audience and people who haven't seen the films it's copying it's going to be brilliant for them.

Ultron- but see, that was the first one to me.. and the second just seemed to give MORE of what was wrong with the first.
Airplane! - 7/10
I don't think it's quite as funny as The Naked Gun, but there were some really awesome moments. Most notably the "And don't call me Shirley" scene. That's just great. If I liked these two movies, is it recommendable to watch Top Secrete!?

I think Airplane was better than Naked Gun, but, they are close. Top Secret is not bad, but not on their levels. I still remember the backwards scene though.
@Mr. Pole that's a fair point. I don't see the first one as the master piece that a lot of other people do either. I thought it worked better than this one though. It was nice to see so many of the heroes from other films brought together. The conflicts and tensions were better between the characters. The dialogue and jokes in the first film were better and I like Loki. I'd probably say the first was about 7.5 out of 10. Since then we've had a whole new wave of the same sort of films and Ultron just comes off looking a bit tired.

That's the thing, there was hardly any tension at all, you just didnt feel the tension. Everything about it just seemed flat.

the Hulk spitting the tooth and Tony's 'sorry'
actually made me laugh out loud though.

That bit was great! There was no threat at all in Ultron. All those action scenes but no sense of danger
The reason I think the first Airplane is a comedy masterpiece is because it set a trend for that form of comedy where there was a joke just about every minute, but also that you sometimes had to look closely at the screen to see what it was. I like Naked Gun too just not as much.
 
Easy A - 8.5/10

Super Funny, Emma Stone is amazing. The only thing I take points off for is the acting of some of the other characters is awful. But Penn Badgley is super hot.

The Breakfast Club- it was only $7 for the DVD so I 'lashed' out and bought it. I think I give it a 5/10.
I really tried to like it but I think it sort of bored me from the beginning. The premise is good but it is very outdated so that might be half the problem. I know its a classic but it might be worth re-doing it for a more modern approach.

Actually think you maybe onto something, and I could easily see a remake working with the right cast. I just think you have to put it in context and say that the concept and characters were original for the time and that it influenced a whole new trend. In some ways it is a cheesy classic, but I think it is very well written and funny and powerful in places too.
 
Never commented on this type of thread before, so my review might be a bit lacking 😛
Bring It On (2000)-7/10
Usually, movies that put emphasis on cheer leading bore me a bit-but this one pulled me in the storyline fairly easily for some reason.

The funny, quotable one liners were a nice touch ("Bite Me!").
Long story short: Loved it 🙂

8/10 Fight Club
Felt like watching it again, first time in ages, because I read a theory online that posited that maybe Marla was imaginary as well, haha. So of course I had to re-visit it and watch it with this in mind. Long story short - still love the movie, but don't put much stock in that new theory. 🙂

(Part of the fun of watching it was remembering how nutty me and my friends were for it back in -99, and I mean we were obsessed, haha. Didn't really make me feel like that anymore but then, I'm not a teenager anymore either 😉 )

Marla is one of the HBC's most vivid and exciting characters. She shows real menace in that film and has struggled to live up to the performance ever since. Yeah can't put much stock in that theory, it would just be that the Norton character was imaginaring the interactions between Tyler and Marla🙂 Have to say while it is an excellent film I would still put it a bit behind other Fincher films such as Zodaic, Se7en and Gone Girl. The second half doesn't quite match the first and the twist doesn't work for me. How about you? Where would you rank it with his other films?🙂

No, you're not a teenager anymore, but even better you are a strong, smart, and witty woman in the prime of your life😛 Oh and least I leave out a bad arse moderator 😉
 
Toy Story - 8/10
A really good family film. It still looks great even though it's 20 years old this year! I just looked it up and that's insane. There are bits in it that I'd forgotten that had me laughing out loud. It will go down as a classic.

You are making me want to rewatch the sequel and rate it (I prefer the second movie to the first, but have seen the entire trilogy an unhealthy amount of times already :P)

It was a fun reason to re-visit the movie though, so whoever came up with that idea, thanks!

Out of those I'd rate Seven at the top, then Fight Club, Zodiac and last but not least Gone Girl. (additionally somewhere below the fires of Mordor I would place The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo. Okay... maybe not that low. But low.)

Not seen TGWTDT yet, and won't rush to as I was really pleased with the Swedish versions or were they Danish? Shit I've had a mental block!😱 My least favourite Fincher film is the Game. The actors really bad, it drags on, and it has another pointless twist.

I'd rank Fight Club after Fincher's other movies (that I have seen) as well. It's a good movie, but I never quite understood why people are so fascinated by it.
However, I just love Zodiac. The atmosphere, the characters, the soundtrack. Amazing film. I've read about people complaining that it's boring and lengthy, but I have no problem with the film's ~160 minutes. I like that slow, realistic style.

Zodiac is an amazing film. I've seen it more than Fight Club and Se7en combined probably.

I really agree, and I think the length just adds to the tension because it is all about this case being stretched out over so many years and how the Gyllenhaal and Rufflo characters let it consume their lives. Every bit of information is crucial in the film. I think its fantastic.
 
Just saw 'Unfriended'.

Not too bad overall for what it was. I suggest not reading this if you don't want to be spoiled on the movie.


I didn't know the entire movie was going to be from the view of behind a computer screen with a bunch of friends on Skype. I think everyone in the cinema was confused when the movie first started based on that former.
Your typical teen horror scenario; killed off one by one each time being more gross or shocking than the one before. I'm probably scarred for life from seeing one person (possessed) shoving his hand into a blender that was switched on - that one will stay with you.
Fairly predictable movie but still amusing nonetheless.
