Really good sci-fi! The only thing is that it feels more like the pilot of a show, they open many questions, but the ending is SUPER open. And by that I mean they literally add more mysteries all the way up to the very final scene. Still, the movie was very good, not sure if at some point there was suppose to be a fallow up, but I would surely watch more of it if it ever came out. The premise is pretty cool and well executed. They lost a few point though because at times the acting is pretty bad. Still, worth a watch.
Edit: apparently this was a pilot of a show that did not get picked up. Now I'm a bit sad, this would have been good!
I saw this to. Once it got going i really enjoyed it. I thought it was a cool sci fi premise. Yea i was a bit sad it didn't get picked up as a show. It has a similar ending to the Battlestar Galactica mini series. I wanted to know more about everything!
Mad Max: Fury Road 8/10
I had my doubts seeing this movie. I'm not a big fan of 'car' movies. It thankfully wasn't what I was expecting. The outfits and make up were amazing. You can tell they used very little CGI. The acting was also very good. I am a fan of Tom Hardy. Honestly...he didn't really speak that much. Which it is funny. The story line was a little hard to follow because they explained everything very quickly with narration and little dialogue.
Nice review should finally be seeing this this week.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) 9/10
One of my favourite films of the last decade. A richly inventive, moving, but off-kilter love story. It is beautifully designed with a dreamy score, and with a finely balanced script which mixes comedy, with melodrama. It features maybe Jim Curry's best ever performance as he completely transforms himself in the lead role, and Kate Winslett does quirky and unpredictable very nicely. I also like the touch about her different hair colours reflecting the different moods of the character. Pretty much all the cast do a great job Tom Wilkinson is great as always, and Kristin Dunst, Mark Rufflo and Jane Adams are all good. This should be on anyone's list of best romantic comedies even if its not a obverous date film. @The Bronze Might have something to do with the narrative being non-linar. It does take a bit of getting into, but once it gets going it is really worth it.

I'd heard bad stuff about it, but I do like Sandra Bullock so I thought I'd give it a try.
As an old Bill & Ted fan I feel a bit like... I know Keanu Reeves was never really that good but... like, did he forget how to act? Or, in all honestly, did he just do this movie for the paycheck...
All in all it's not a terrible movie. It just gets a bit frustrating trying to keep the time lines in check in your head and to find their conversations believable. But it was entertaining enough to have on while I was folding laundry and stuff.
One thing though...
At the end we're supposed to believe that again she's two years ahead, and he's coming to see her (and will die) only she figures out two years later that he did die because she was the one trying to save him and manages to warn him in advance so he doesn't die, and yay, happy ending. Except... him dying was the whole reason why she went out to that Lake House in the first place, why she was motivated to even start a conversation with him, and learned some life lesson she rattled off in the middle of the movie to him as she was deciding to move on... so if she stops him from dying in the past, that means that never happened and that means that her future couldn't possibly look the same... i.e. because she stops him from dying, they would never have started corresponding or met... That's like a MAJOR plot hole!
Also I'm adding Sandy B and Keanu Reeves to people who really shouldn't smooch each other on-screen. There was no appeal in that. Ick. They had nothing on the all-reigning horrible-kiss-scene champions Alyssa Milano and Julian McMahon, but it was still pretty bad.
Skanky VampMoney? There is none. Couldnt pay me. No desire. My opinion of you lessened. Granted, being a B&T fan elevated it again but the lake house? no. no. I'd watch Time Traveler's Wife again before Lake House.

Not sure KR could ever act really its just that when cast as geek zen dudes he's actually pretty watchable. Bullock's a great old school actress. Plenty of charm and charisma and can sell you the back off your shirt. Sadly, I suspect this was not her finest moment😱
I found the full length The Day After (1983) on You Tube and finally watched it the entire way through. I truly wish I could see it in 1983, as I believe it would have been a 9.5/10! Unfortunately it hasn't aged well though, and for that reason I'm giving it a 8/10. I have heard my parents talk at length about marching on anti nuclear marches and how frightening the threat seemed, even in Australia, which for some reason seems to survive almost all apocalyptic world views in film! It is realistic, bleak and gritty. I almost can't comprehend this being made today which speaks to how brave the film was. There was no happy ending in this one, and I'm glad that the threat of nuclear devastation doesn't seem as imminent 30 years later.
I've waited over a decade for this movie. Where do I begin?
First off, I really liked it. It wasn't quite what I expected - which isn't bad - but it's very difficult for me to put into words what I expected in the first place. But none of that matters now, because, after having followed the production of this film for almost three years, I have finally watched it and it is a great feeling.
At the very least, this is an entertaining action adventure, for Jurassic Park fans, like me, it is a lot more than that. I do have some complaints, however. I will try not to talk too much about the details and I will tag spoilers.
Basically, the movie is about a hybrid dinosaur that was created to attract more visitors. Of course, the dinosaur escapes and wreaks havoc. The trailers may have given a lot of the basic plot away, but there is still much to enjoy.
Unlike what people on the Internet say based on the trailers, the CGI is insanely good. And I do mean that. I'm person who's very skeptical towards this kind of stuff. There are certain scenes where you do get that feeling that you're looking at CGI, but some of the close-ups are simply breathtaking. It was sometimes difficult for me to tell whether I was looking at a practical dinosaur or not.
The film also includes one of the most emotional scenes that I have ever seen in a science fiction adventure.
This is the scene where Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) interact with a dying (animatronic) Apatosaurus, and it is beautiful and touching to watch.
Towards the third act of the movie, the raptors, who are being used by security chief Vic Hoskins (Vincent D'Onofrio) to find the escaped hybrid, turn on Owen, their trainer, because of a kind of conversation between them and the hybrid. The explanation for this is that the hybrid's genetic code consists partly of the Velociraptor genome. Initially, I was very turned off by this notion, but in the third (and probably most hated) part of the series, they introduced that raptors are capable of communicating by using a certain vocal chamber in their skull. I don't particularly like this aspect of the third film, but the writers of Jurassic World have every right to acknowledge and use it in service of the story, and I respect that.
Personally, I think this blows things like Godzilla (2014) out of the water (they're completely different stories, mind you, but they're somewhat comparable, for obvious reasons), and I think it is a lot more entertaining than the Marvel movies over and over again, simply because we haven't seen a movie like this in a long time. Of all the countless sequels being released, this is definitely one of the most original ones.
Bottom line, if you're looking for an entertaining thrill ride, you may enjoy Jurassic World a lot. There's plenty of action and humor in the film. If you're a fan of the other Jurassic Park movies, it's a little more complicated, but chances are you'll like it as well, maybe even love it.

I didn't really care for the first two movies, but this one is a different family and a bit of a different story, but I actually enjoyed this one, I'd watch it again. It was pretty fun, had a few scary moments, but also a good story, and for me I'm the kind of person I need everything explained to me, so this movie works for me at least.
Mad Max: Fury Road-7/10
I'm a bit down on this one, every one says it's great, and I'm just like "meh". Again, I like more story and exposition, and this just didn't have enough of that for me. It's a movie I'd have to watch a couple more times to get into it. It was all car action, and while it looked visually great, thats just not my kind of movie. Also I didn not like Tom Hardy's accent. He doesn't speak a lot, but he slipped in and out of his 'Bane' accent sometimes and that just bugged me. Also didn't think Charlize Theron was as amazing as everyone says. To me, no body really does anything. Again, I'd have to rewatch it. But I did think the villain looked creepy as hell. I just did not like seeing him at all. It's a good movie, and a cool world, they just didn't do a lot with it to me.

That's not exactly what I meant by that. I mean that, in terms of "monster" movies, Jurassic World delivers a lot more than the Godzilla remake did and it's a lot more fun, in my opinion. I wouldn't have had to pick Godzilla, but it is the one recent movie that is most similar to Jurassic Park. Jurassic World is more over-the-top than the other Jurassic Park movies, but it still does feel like Jurassic Park, although maybe not all the time. But some of the stuff is almost straight out of the novel, so it depends on what you consider to be "Jurassic Park", since there is a lot of very weird stuff in the novels.

Overall it was a decent, well acted horror with some genuinely creepy moments. I'm probably rating it a bit lower mostly because I was told by a few sources that it was the best horror in years. While it was certainly good, it seemed like a pretty standard demonic possession movie to me. I didn't think it was quite as new and original as many reviewers seemed to. But nevertheless, definitely worth watching.

I was so excited to see this movie and for good reason, it was awesome! A good, fun and scary adventure movie. It had a quick pace similar to the first movie, and a lot of good call backs as well. The dinos were pretty awesome, I love the water dinosaur, so cool. The raptors do get to be bad ass, and I really liked the ending climax. Chris Pratt was great in this, not too joke-y, pretty bad ass too, and looking good I thought. lol. Bryce Dallas Howard, I thought she was good in this, never really cared for her work before, but she did a good job. The kids story line was done well and played into the movie as I was hoping. I do wish that there would have been more practical effects and animatronics but the CGI was still amazing. I really want to go back and see this again. There was a good amount of comedy, a few which I did feel kind of out of place but I guess that just shows how comedy has changed in movies since the 1st one. But still super awesome, especially if you're a fan of the franchise. Totally recommend it!

Yea there were some shots that should have been animotronics and some i could tell if they were but with CGI enhancements. I do want to see it again and see how i feel.
@JCoatsworth and Fuffy Baith I don't want to spoil this JP lovefest you guys are having (or maybe I do😀) but there seems to be a huge backlash against the film with a lot of people claiming that its potrayal of women is really sexist and very outdated. Your thoughts on that? And don't just say its entertainment so it doesn't matter because being sexist is no more acceptable in a main stream film as it would be in more indie fare, in some ways its worse. Just to point out I have not seen the film yet so can't comment so just wanted to throw it out there.
Satyricon (1969) 5.5./10
Normally I would really be into mad art house fare such as this but this is just too stagiey and self-important, and tries to throw too many things at the screen. This is a rare occusion where a Fellini film fails to engage cinematically.
Mad Max: Days of Fury Road (2015) 8/10
A unique mainstream film in that stays true to the director's artistic vision just about all the way through. Its a deliciously bonkers thrill ride which is imposible to take your eyes off, and which does a good job in updating the gender roles of the original films. I liked that Charlize Theron's character was basically the centre of the film and that was just as tough and way more complexed and smart than Max. The other female roles were also very different and interesting. The one weak point for me was Tom Hardy who still doesn't convince me as an actor, his acient was all over the place and he just mumbled for way too much of the film, it reminded me of his Baine in Batman. That aside I really enjoyed this.
The Eyes of Laura Mars (1977) 7.5/10
This thriller is a little dated now, but at the time the plot was pretty unique, the cast including Tommy Lee Jones, Faye Dunaway and Brad Douriff are excellent, and the direction and story are both inventive and keeps you on the edge of your sit. The representation of the fashion industry is spot-on too.
Pit and the Pendulum (1961) 9/10
Poe's lines retain their rich poetic quality and for once the tension and enjoyment of the film is added to by leaving much of it in not least because the cast deliver them with dramatic tension and ripe verve. Corman's direction and colour schemes are truly unique, the atmosphere carefully builds, and the twists and turns slowly build as do the scares. One of the great ever horrors and Vincent Price is just as good as always.

I think Whedon is to blame for alot of that for his comment he made upon seeing a trailer. I don't think there really is anything in the film that is 'sexist' or 'outdated'
I know people have issue (not sexist related) with her outrunning a T-Rex in her heels, but that was the actress' choice as she went against the directors wishes. So, I don't really see a problem with that either.

Yea I've heard some of those comments. But i don't really see how it was sexist. She out runs a t rex in heels, which is nit realistic but the point is she steps up to take action. How is that sexist? Because she's a work aholic? I just thought her character progressed logically throughout the film. I'm not against sexism in movies because it exists in the real world so why can't movies reflect that if it's a part of the story. But like i said i didn't really think there was anything really sexist about the movie. I still enjoyed it.
Even to the point where she and Pratt were on top of the waterfall and he suggests she go and wait for him because the jungle is dangerous. How she rolls up sleeves, et al and kinda puts him in his place. I don't see where that could be construed as sexist.
And the other important thing to remember, which people don't mention when they criticize the relationship between the two leads, is that they were once a couple, or hinted at being one, who've since went their separate ways. There was the line she said in the opening about having a history with Owen as to why she didn't want him brought in. So the "sexist" dialogue is more understandable than if they were, until that point, two strangers.
