Happy Death Day 6.5/10

Enjoyable but pretty average horror flick with an interesting concept at its core. I didn't love it but it was entertaining.

I liked it a lot. Actually think the sequel is very solid too, but is different.
Captain America: Winter Soldier - 8/10
I hadn't seen it since my first watch of it a few years ago, so last night I decided I wanted another go. Just as good as I remember, in fact probably better since I enjoy Steve Rogers more as a character now that I've witnessed his full arc in all its glory. He used to be my least favorite Avenger so the movie didn't impress me as much as it probably should have in the past.

There are several standout moments; elevator fight scene, every fight scene with Bucky, the fun chemistry between Rogers and Natasha, "On your left," and so on. It is also smart by not focusing too much on its villain (granted, because we don't know who it is for a long while) what with Marvel's trend for un-impressive villains. Not that the surprise Hydra isn't a great reveal.

Yeah that film bored me to tears! Think Reeves was miscast in it. Ryder did a little better out of it.

Lol, I thought the exact opposite. Ryder was awful.

It was good, but I wouldn't watch it again, or I would stop before the end. It's more or less just another sad lesbian drama. I might read the book as I hear it has a happier ending. The actresses did a good job however. And I liked the aesthetic.

Safety Not Guaranteed (2012) 7.5/10
A really charming indie Sci-fi from the director of Tomorrowland and Jurassic World. The casting is perfect and they all have really good chemistry. Aubrey Plaza is again so likable and funny, in a really understated way. Mark Duplass is the perfect likable oddball. I enjoyed their relationship and how the film kept the suspense with his character and the time travel plot. Jake Johnson is also fun as the slimeball. There's good character growth too.

@Fuffy Baith Thanks! Was sure it was Trevorrow😀 Tomorrowland doesn't feel that much like a Bird film for some reason.

It's cause his name is similar to the word tomorrow. lol. But it is a Brad Bird film, it's what held up Incredibles 2! lol
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - 5/10
I've only seen a couple of Tarantino's movies, Inglorious Bastards, and bits of Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction. So, I'm not a prime fan for this movie. Here's what I'll say, it's definitely too long. I like a lot of the scenes, but I don't feel a connecting overall story. The stuff with Sharon Tate doesn't really pay off. What I do like, is that DiCaprio's character is this "washed up" actor doing bit parts not wanting to succumb to spaghetti westerns, but ultimately realizes that he is still a talented actor that is worth something. And Brad Pitt is a washed up stunt man basically DiCaprio's errand boy. Tate is the opposite an up and coming popular actress, so I get the parallels but I don't know if any of this really solidifies as a good story. I enjoy the performances and I loved the little girl in the western with DiCaprio's character. But ultimately it's too long to justify the thin story.

The Signourney Weaver/Jennifer Love-Hewitt movie? Omg I love that movie! It's so hilarious! Weaver kills it with the comedy. Great cast, I miss that movie. I think it's on Hulu or Prime.

A Secret Obsession (2019) - 7/10
I honestly don't get all the hate and low ratings for this one. It's not anything spectacular, but it's a fun 90 minutes with a PG13 thriller and some truly wonderful performances by the 3 main cast members. One of my favorite things about the script is that they give character work to very minor characters, like the nurse or the young cop, which makes the movie feel more real.

I think people should watch before judging, and keep in mind that it was made by someone who used to do Hallmark movies 😉

Alita: Battle Angle - 8/10

I enjoyed it. Amazing visual as expected and I can really appreciate that.
Should've watched this one in a proper cinema instead of the Blu-ray though...

Hope it has made enough money so they want to make another. I want to see more of this world.

(Re-watch) Friends With Benefits - 7/10

A pretty cute and funny rom com, which makes fun of standard rom com tropes. Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake have very good chemistry and their characters are fun and likeable. Forgot how enjoyable and funny this film is.

I enjoy this one quite a bit, too. Not typically a rom-com fan, but the chemistry is everything in this type of film.
The Hustle (2019) - 8.5/10
It's Ghostbusters and Ocean's 8 all over again, wherein I don't get what all the bad reviews are about. This one was beyond hilarious and I think I laughed harder than I have in years while watching a movie. Maybe someday I'll get sick and tired of Rebel Wilson being Rebel Wilson in every movie she's in, but it's not gonna happen anytime soon, I'll tell you that. And I've always loved Anne Hathaway, as well.

Honestly I think the problem often lies in expectations; if you walk into a film like this expecting anything other than a fun comedy romp then you're bound to be disappointed. It reminds me of how much I enjoyed Holmes and Watson because I knew it wasn't going to take itself seriously at all.

Also, I desperately want a Rebel Wilson/Melissa McCarthy film (in which they actually interact)!

I walked into Oceans 8 hoping for exactly that but was disappointed because it was awful. Same for the bits of Ghostbusters I've seen. It's cool if people enjoy them but the bad reviews are because they're bad films even if you've got low expectations.

First Man - 7/10

Ryan Gosling plays Neil Armstrong, first man on the moon, in this show that looks at his family life as well as the mission. Very realistic launch shots and flight dynamics and a nice opening with the X-15 rocket plane, something younger people might not know about.
 
The Dark Knight (2008) 9/10
Brilliant movie. I decided to give it another ago before watching Begins, as it’s the most popular of the Nolan trilogy. Great writing and acting. Heath Ledger stole every scene he was in. This film and Begins didn’t really click with me the first time around (never saw Rises) maybe because my nostalgia for the Tim Burton’s films was clouding my judgment and it’s hard to get into a new version of something anyway.

The Secret Life of Pets - 8/10
Just such a great animated comedy. I specifically adore Chloe the cat (she's every cat I've ever owned/known) and Snowball the bunny, voiced to perfection by Kevin Hart. It's literally Toy Story for pets and it's just as brilliant 😀

The Secret Life of Pets 2 - 7/10
Started out just eh okay, but by the time I was halfway through it, it got as good as the first one. Also, tons of Chloe and Snowball in this, so obviously I wasn't the only one who favored those two!
 
The Greatest Showman - 7/10

Wasn't bad, but didn't love it.

Bohemian Rhapsody - 8/10

I think this could be a good film to have in the background, think it was very well done.
