21 Jump Street - 7/10
This movie was pretty hyped for me. A lot of my friends told me how hilarious it was. I didn't think it was that funny, though it did have its moments.

John Carter of Mars 10/10 I went to see it last night on a last minute whim with no expectations, and it was surprisingly a pretty amazing Sci-Fi movie. The CGI was fantastic, story was good enough and most of the characters were distinguished and likable. When compared to "Avatar" (which it undeniably will be) it is much, much more entertaining and doesn't try to take itself too seriously. I saw it in 3D and in a giant IMAX-esque theater which really added to the experience, and if you have that choice I'd definitely go and see it.

These are some of Cameron's comments concerning "Avatar" and its John Carter/Edgar Rice Burroughs connection:

JAMES CAMERON:
“With ‘Avatar,’ I thought, forget all these chick flicks and do a classic guys’ adventure movie, something in the Edgar Rice Burroughs mold, like John Carter of Mars.” (The New Yorker, October 26, 2009)

*****************

“We’re doing this story that takes place out in the rain forest, a very simple story, almost classic in a sense, almost an Edgar Rice Burroughs kind of adventure.” (regarding “Avatar”)

***************

“It could have been an Edgar Rice Burroughs-type story.” (regarding “Avatar”)

***************

“Ultimately he becomes a messianic leader who leads them into battle … in the old school Edgar Rice Burroughs, Rudyard Kipling, H. Rider Haggard way. Where a guy kinda wanders into another culture, then rises through the ranks.” (regarding “Avatar”)

*************

“My inspiration is every single science fiction book I read as a kid. And a few that weren’t science fiction. The Edgar Rice Burroughs books, H. Rider Haggard — the manly, jungle adventure writers. I wanted to do an old fashioned jungle adventure, just set it on another planet.” (regarding “Avatar”)

"John Carter" will, indeed, be compared to "Avatar," as well as "Lord Of The Rings," "Star Wars," and other similar movies, and rightly so, since Edgar Rice Burroughs and John Carter of Mars was the direct inspiration for all of them. Burroughs may, indeed, be the greatest single inspiration for the entire science fiction/fantasy genre of the 20th Century, and is single handedly responsible for the sub-genre known as "sword and science," (swashbuckler adventures in fantastic realms, with no magic involved)

Inception - 7/10
That threshold from 7 to 8 that raises a movie from "very good" to "I'd watch it right again"... Always very difficult to decide.

L.A. Confidential - 9/10
Awesome movie!

Living Dead Boy agrees: This is one of my favorite movies! It didn't do much for me at first, but after a rewatch or two, I was sold. It's a lot deeper than people realize.

It is, indeed, a good movie. I really liked how it started, but at some point it got a bit too weird for my taste.
I don't have anything against weird movies 🙄 it was that certain kind of weird.
I didn't really like how the movie developed with that
Project Mayhem
.
But Edward Norton's and Brad Pitt's performances were really awesome! I like both actors very much.

Living Dead Boy
I actually liked "Project Mayhem". It was sort of commentary about society. Well, the movie has too many ideas and metaphors going for it, so it's impossible to list, but this is definitely my kind of weird. ;)
The Muppets(2011) - 8/10

It's the MUPPETS, guys! it made me smile. I always watched the muppets even the animated baby muppets.

Easy A - 9/10. Saw this movie on Netflix a while back, watched it and ended up, much to my surprise, loving it. I bought the blu-ray a few weeks ago to pad out a 'get three for 20' dealio. Was glad I did. Such a great movie.

I love that movie.
Clash of the titans.
I wanted to like this movie, i really did. For the first hour i kept looking out for things to like. But, after an hour i was consigned to the fact it was lame, characters had no personality. It was ALL special effects. Totally forgetable.
3/10. Rubbish.

most movies of today are all special effects and have characters without personality. it's just sad.
Drive: 10/10

This is either a love or hate film, but I honestly don't understand the hate. An absolutely brilliant, slow burn of a thriller, and it's instantly one of my favorite films. Ryan Gosling gives his best performance.

7/10 - What's your number?
I was pleasantly surprised, I thought it was going to be crap but it was actually really funny and only momentarily stupid (her insistance on lying to 'Disgusting Donald' bugged me, what do you care what he thinks?) Anna Faris was rather funny, though I'm not really a fan, and Chris Evans.... yum yum, what a cutie! Their chemistry was rather great too. Easy and fun.

Worst movie of 2011.
I just saw "The Artist" I was afraid it wouldn't be as great as I expected and I was wrong This is an amazing movie, touching, funny and incredibly inventive. Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Béjo are perfect as usual. 10/10

A Blockbuster near me is going out of business and I wound up spending quite a bit on DVDs and blu-rays. So a few I've recently watched:

Law Abiding Citizen- 9/10. Love the movie, don't love the ending.

The Sweetest Thing- 8/10. Still love this movie, but it wasn't as funny as I remember.

The Last House on the Left (new version)- 6.5/10. It was just... meh. If you think about it, not much is going on for the majority of the movie.

21 Jump Street 9/10 both me and my boyfriend enjoyed it a lot. I was rather dubious as it had had a lot of good press and sometimes that ruins it for me as I then have high expectations, but it didn't disappoint.

Tenebrae.

I am loving these Arrow releases 😀 For sure one of Argentos best films, love the story and the soundtrack is sick!. 4/5.

1991: The Year Punk Broke: 10/10

The best concert movie ever. Absolutely brilliant. It centers around the blooming punk and grunge scene in the early 90's. Sonic Youth is the major band, and it shows them on their European tour, with Nirvana opening for them. It's so fascinating to see them play "Smells Like Teen Spirit" before they even made it big. And Kurt was a hilarious mess, trashing sets everywhere they played. It also features various other bands like Babes In Toyland, Dinosaur Jr, The Ramones, even a rare glimpse of Courtney Love on the brink of her fame. An amazing, insightful look back at an extrodinary musical era.
