I like Cangel, but I have to admit that I enjoy Dangel a lot more. I've always been a sucker for couples with a lot of history and development, and IMO Dangel definitely fits the bill. I think that Darla and Angel really knew each other, and went through a lot together. Plus, I just love the spark between them. Although I know that even if Darla was still alive they just couldn't end up together [ really, I think that the heroes, meaning Buffy and Angel, really can't end up with anyone. In the end, they have to be alone.] I still like to imagine them together.

I totally agree.
Buffy of course, I found the Cordy and Angel thing so not ok and icky to me. Angel always will belong with Buffy. She completes him and that's how I see it always being 🙂

Buffy!

I haven't watched Angel, only the episodes with Buffy, but the idea of Angel loving someone else irks me for one simple reason:

"In 243 years, I have loved only one person."

^ Buffy.

Having him fall in love with someone else ruins that.

Like I said, I haven't watched Angel, but in my humble opinion, no matter who Buffy and Angel date/love/etc they will always be totally and completely 100% IN love with each other. Real, true love.

Considering they can't be together that's a pretty depressing POV!

"In 243 years, I have loved only one person." <---So things can't change? Why not?
Uh, SPIKE!!!!!!!! 😀

Did everyone around here forget about Spangel?: erm :

So you don't like Cangel because it ruins Bangel? Like, he's not going to love the same exact person FOREVER, that'd be the most ridiculous thing. 😀 They both have separate lives now, and they're not going to keep holding onto the past. I'd definitely recommend Ats, it's very telling Angel- wise. 🙂

How is it icky? Although I'm not a huge fan, I recognize and accept that it's a beautiful relationship full of friendship, acceptance, fun, and love. 😀

Buffy and Cordy are equal. In what bizzaro world we are living in?

Well, how aren't they? They're both loyal, friendly, perky, brave, honest, etc. 😀

Yep, like WO said, you shouldn't hate Cangel only because you think Angel and Buffy are meant to be together. I don't like them because I just don't feel that they should be together, I see it like this: Cordy for Angel is someone who Riley is for Buffy, she loves him, but they are not meant to be together 😀

That is what I meant. I don't like Cangel because I don't think they're a good fit. I just started watching AtS and like Xander with Buffy, I enjoy their friendship and think they're better off as friends.

I have to disagree. 🙂 Cordy and Angel met in the very beginning. Cordy was immediately physically attracted to him, but Angel just brushed her off, still in love with his precious Buffer. A few years later, they met again, and became co- workers. They soon became really good friends, and then best friends. Angel himself remarked that Cordy was his best friend and knew him better than anyone else ever had. Their relationship went much deeper than Bangel; They actually HAD a foundation, whereas Bangel was built completely on romance. They were friends, they understood each other, they loved each other unconditionally, and they would've given up anything for the other. Like in Angel S3 "Birthday" when Cordy
kissed Angel to take the visions away that were torturing him, even though she knew the visions would kill her in a few hours.

Good friends become lovers all the time 😀, and ALL good relationships have "best friendy-ship" 😀 . They made each other better people, and had a fun, sweet relationship. So I'm cool with it, although I prefer Spangel and Dangel.

excellent post :)
I voted for Darla because she and Angel together were the most fun to watch. My 2nd choice would be Cordelia, post season one, pre-season 4. They really did develop some great chemistry and I think they knew each other very well and trusted each other. They had the solid foundation I never saw with Angel and Buffy.

Although I love Dangel, I have to say that Spangel was most fun to watch. Angel is a pretty NON humorous character on his own, but with Spike he's the funniest guy ever. 😀

The one thing I have to say about this is -.-"-.-"-.-"-.-" etc.
Angel and Buffy weren't friends? Ok, the true is they couldn't be just friends, but in their relathionship they were friends and lovers, because without the friends thins relathionship is all sex, sex, sex, little rest and then again sex. Bangel wasn't that. I never said Cangel wasn't what you claim they are, I just said I don't see it. They're nothing to me, in the end of the day, just friends. We all see what we want to see, that is the beauty of tv shows and movies.

Buffy herself said in Lovers Walk "we're not friends. We'll never BE friends." So clearly, they weren't friends. 😀

Also, romance and sex are NOT the same thing. Romance is all the cutesy kissing and and roses and moonlit bike rides, stuff like that. There are a lot of extremely romantic relationships that were never consummated at all. 🙂 Like, Spuffy S7 was romantic, but as far as we know they never slept together. 🙂

So, basically, Bangel was all about the romance. It was pretty dramatic, with really early proclamations of love, kissing instead of hugging, and eternal sacrifice and all that craziness. 😀 Friends are what Tara and Willow were. 😀 They were sweet to each other, they treated each other with respect, they hugged and supported each other, befriended each others' friends, etc. That's actually one of my issues with Bangel: It's all about the kissing and the romance. A real relationship goes a lot deeper than that to where you have a deep love and acceptance for the person, a great understanding, instead of just a surface attraction. Which is why I prefer 'ships like Spangel, Dangel, Cangel, Spuffy, and Tillow. Like Anya said in Hell's Bell's:

"I, Anya, want to marry you, Xander, because ... I love you and I'll always love you. And ... before I knew you, I was like a completely different person. Not even a person, really... ...and I had seen what love could do to people, and it was ... hurt and sadness. Alone was better. And then, suddenly there was you, and ... you knew me. You saw me, and it was this ... thing. You make me feel safe and warm. So, I get it now. I finally get love, Xander. I really do."

Buffy herself said in Lovers Walk "we're not friends. We'll never BE friends." So clearly, they weren't friends. 😀
Have to agree with this. Buffy's word is final say. Here's the entire exchange:

Angel: Hey. I was wondering when you were coming.
Buffy: I'm not coming back. We're not friends. We never were. And I can fool Giles, and I can fool my friends, but I can't fool myself. Or Spike, for some reason. What I want from you I can never have. You don't need me to take care of you anymore. So I'm gonna go.
Angel: I don't accept that.
Buffy: You have to.
Angel: How can... There's gotta be some way we can still see each other.
Buffy: There is: Tell me that you don't love me.

By saying this, Buffy is stating her belief that people in love can't be friends.

Has she said anything since that proves she has changed her stance on his issue? No.

As it stands - if you believe Buffy's still in love with him - it's safe to assume Buffy still believes that people in love cannot be friends. Therefore, her and Angel are NOT friends.

Also, romance and sex are NOT the same thing. Romance is all the cutesy kissing and and roses and moonlit bike rides, stuff like that. Moonlight bike rides, lol? Like, Angel and Spike on the motorcycle in TGIQ?

lol, there's some real romance for you. Take that Bangels! 😉

No but really; exactly. Spuffy was seething with romance in S7, and it certainly wasn't about sex.

I'd also like to point out the obvious that you can definitely engage in sex with some one and not have it not be romantic, for instance, Spuffy season 6. I don't think anyone thinks sex in the DMP parking lot was romantic.

Sex does not always equal romance, agreed.

Agreed. I prefer those ships as well for these very reasons.

The one thing I have to say about this is -.-"-.-"-.-"-.-" etc.

I'm not sure I get what you're trying to say here; that B/A weren't friends but they...were?

It is simply not true that w/o friendship a relationship is only sex. What if the people in questions aren't sleeping together, as B/A were not for most of their relationship? What do they have then? Nothing by your definition.

We do all see what we want to see, I'll admit that on some level but you simply can not ignore what the characters have said simply because it didn't suit your ship. You don't believe Angel loved Cordelia? He said he did! I ship Spuffy obviously, but I don't ignore the canonical evidence that Buffy has feelings for Angel, do I?

All that actually proves is that Buffy felt that she and Angel could never be friends. They were always more than that. However, it in no way implies that she believes all people who are in love cannot be friends.

She said that. But they tried to be friends, only friends, just friends. With them that doesn't work that way. Friendship comes with the lovers side. I'll never belive they weren't friends, because without friendship relathionship just can't work.

I don't believe she was saying that at all. They were in love... like really in love. Buffy didn't want to get back together with him because she didn't want what happened before to happen again. There, she was telling Angel that they couldn't just be friends because she loved him too much and it would be too hard to be just friends because she wanted more from him.

When she says 'Tell me you don't love me' she's saying if he doesn't love her, then they'll be able to be around each other because it won't be too hard to not be more than friends. He does love her though, and she loves him, so they can't.

I hope that made sense 😛

True, that's what I'm talking about. I guess I should have specified "JUST" friends. Her and Angel. Usually, though, people's personal experiences color their opinion on the matter in general. Hence my belief that Buffy believes that people in love can not "only" be friends. I think it's safe to assume that if Buffy believes that her and Angel can't even be friends because they're so in love, then it is reasonable to assume that her opinion on this matter applies to other people in the same position as her. Just my opinion. I don't think it's that insane 🙂

For what it's worth, I agree with Buffy. I don't think people in love can "just be friends", either.

Yes, I agree. They were too in love to be friends. I don't get where you're arguing with me. You believe that two people who are that in love can't be friends, yes? So do I.

I agree to a certain extent but I also believe that a degree of friendship is part of every romantic relationship. Friendship does not have to come first in the building of relationships but I do believe it does eventually come at some stage. In a romantic relationship there is a level of comraderie, of trust, of just hanging out and enjoying the company of that person, of shared interests and/or history. All these things are the backbone of friendships. What differs from the two is the sexual attraction and affection. Also there is the distinction between loving a friend and being in love.

Where I agree with Buffy is that you cannot be just a friend to the person you are in love with. Especially if you had been romantically involved before trying to be just friends.

So isn't that like saying you're either together as a couple or not, and therefore you're technically not "friends"?

If you were trying to say they can't be JUST friends because they love each other too much and want more than that, then I do agree with you. I thought you were saying Buffy thinks that her and Angel can't ever be friends at all just because they're in love, which I don't agree with. lol

Yes, that's what I meant to say. Perhaps I should have worded it more carefully :)
Willow-Tree agrees: So isn't that like saying you're either together as a couple or not, and therefore you're technically not "friends"?

If I understand your meaning correctly then, yes. If you are going out with someone you would not introduce them as your "friend" to someone else, nor would you introduce your friend as a boyfriend/girlfriend. However, I also don't believe that just because that is the main or most important "title" or description of the relationship you have with a person that it emcompasses the entirity of the relationship. Like I said before, alot of the components that make a friendship go into making a romantic relationship. Just because you don't define it as a friendship doesn't mean that friendship isn't part of what you have with that person.
