Spoiler! Scream VI - Spoilers

I just rewatched it and loved it. To me, it’s clear that this was the middle of a trilogy. The revenge was pretty clear from the beginning, as soon as Bailey said something to the effect of “I’ll kill for my family”. I thought “he’s the killer”. I did get sidetracked for a hot second during that phone call in the final act, where he claims Kirby hasn’t worked for the FBI in months and I was like OMG IS IT KIRBY?! But as soon as he appeared at the end, I was like “oh hell no. It’s the frakking cop”.

I did love all the scenes with the core four. And I love the cheesiness of them. I don’t know why everyone hates Mindy, because I love her. But probably because she’s me in a lesbian body. I’m loud and in your face and all about the meta commentary. And I adore Jasmine!

I can’t get over how much Melissa has settled into her role as Sam, and how this film really subverts the final girl mantra into final girls, because both sisters are equal in this franchise. Melissa and Jenna are so convincing as sisters, and give the dynamic I really wish the Vaughn-Vera sisters would have had in the Charmed reboot. Nothing is over played, and their relationship is organic given the storyline of abandonment from the previous film and how they navigated moving forward from the events of that film.

I think the mom is going to show up in the 7th film as a red herring and she’s going to be killed. Lol. Calling it now. If she’s revealed as a killer, I’ll be disappointed. It would call back scream 4 if the mom is killed and a red herring, as if she is getting revenge on Sam for coming back and ruining her life with her younger daughter, even though it was clear from the fifth film that she was a bit of an alcoholic and absentee mom.

Ok, so I am very late to the party, but I finally watched Scream VI yesterday.

First of all, keep in mind I'm a little biased when it comes to Scream, because I'll always watch a movie involving Ghostface. 🤣 Love the character quite a bit, as he was my major introduction to the horror genre.

With that said, I thought the movie was decently enjoyable. It had a really good opening (my favorite since Scream 2), some intense sequences (the store, the apartment, and the train), and good kills (or so I thought). I got a kick out of seeing Ghostface with a shotgun. 🤣 Ah, and the Ghostface 'museum' was neat. I also do like Sam as protagonist! She is a good replacement for Sidney. I just hope they do more with her dark side moving forward.

I'll admit that, again, I didn't fully guess who the killers were. For almost the entire movie, I thought the promiscuous neighbour (Quinn) was one of the killers, along with her unseen boyfriend, but I never thought her father was in on it. Oh, and that other guy, Ethan, seemed way too obvious. I wonder if I'll guess all the killers correctly one day. 😆 As for the motive, meh. It wasn't my favorite. Who cares about Ritchie? It's like a repeat of Scream 2, but with more people.

Similarly to others in this thread, my main issue with the movie is that way too many characters survived killing blows (as if the knives were made of plastic). I don't even see the point in keeping all these characters alive. Only Sam and Tara really matter, imo. It cheapens the drama and the 'kills'. It also makes little sense. And before anyone points it out, I did not like how they kept saving Dewey back then either. I don't need perfectly happy endings in... most... of my horror movies. 😉

Also, this has always been a pet peeve of mine with the Scream franchise in particular... For the love of god... WHEN YOU HAVE GHOSTFACE ON THE GROUND, STUNNED, DON'T JUST RUN AWAY! You are literally three people against one, you can just keep on kicking Ghostface in the head and pick his/her weapon and just finish the creep! This idiocy happened in past Scream movies too, but in this one it happened so often it was ridiculous. At least give me a reason to believe they'd want to run away from a slouched, beaten up person on the ground. They're not facing unstoppable Michael Myers!

With that off my chest, I still liked the movie! I'd put it after 4 probably on my list: 1 > 2 > 4 > 6 > 5 > 3 👍

Snap! Pretty sure that's my ranking for the Scream films.

I do think it was better than 5 for sure. The actors were all much more comfortable in their roles, and found who the characters were. This really helps the plot and to begin to care about the characters. You could also see how the killings were effecting them, especially after Gale was attacked.

I wonder what Scream 7 is going to look like now without Sam and Tara. I'm guessing they will do what they can to get Sidney back as the main character.

They really want to destroy this franchise, don't they?

First they lowball Neve freaking Campbell for VI, then they fire Melissa Barrera for standing up for Palestine. And no, she's not antisemitic at all. Read her whole timeline, it's clear she condemns Hamas, radical Islam, and the Israeli government all at the same time and wants the best for all the innocent Israeli and Palestinian lives caught in the crossfire. And the stuff about it being a scheduling issue for Ortega is an excuse; they'd move the shoot for her if she wanted them to, especially since they have to rewrite the script now that Melissa is gone anyway. Ortega is also heavily pro-Palestine so I'm guessing she doesn't want to come back out of solidarity with Melissa.

They have no choice now. They have to give Neve a dumptruck full of money to pull their asses out of the fire. I hope she bends these clowns over a barrel and takes them for every damn dollar they have.

Much better!! I thought the last two were beyond dumb plus the main cast all had massive plot armor.

No dumber than many Scream movies, they all follow a similar pattern
Spyglass and Paramount are about to pay out to bring back Neve, Courtney, Hayden, and Patrick Dempsey. Maybe Mason and Jasmine will come back to showcase the “new” generation, but also because they are Meeks, it makes them an homage to Randy. And they should just go all out and no one should be safe. I wonder if they will kill Tara and Sam off screen? Or have them be in another location and the killers have a reason to not include them in the current spree?

If it brings Neve, Hayden and Courtney back, that’s all I need…

Ortega had a scheduling conflict and was out before the writers strike happened. They knew about her leaving for months. She's producing and filming the next season of Wednesday.

They absolutely wouldn't have announced it today if that were the case. That's a PR excuse.

There were articles written weeks ago that talked up her scheduling conflicts.
It's not a PR excuse as you can verify the dates on the Wednesday show. It's probably a PR move though.
The Wrap reported less than a month ago that they were working out the schedules for her to do both. Then a day after Melissa gets fired for making the same types of social media posts that Jenna has been making for years, Jenna is suddenly gone? I don't buy it for a second.

Jenna is one of the biggest stars in the world right now and easily the biggest star in the horror genre. Paramount would absolutely, 100% work around Jenna's schedule to have her in the movie, even in a reduced role.

Agreed. This is a disgrace by the studio, and censorship of the worse kind. No matter what anybody thinks about the recent movies this is no way to treat their stars. There’s now talk of the Mindy actress leaving too. That would be 3 of the last films 4 leads. It could force the studios hands. They may push hard to get Campbell back, but not sure she would want to touch them now.

I’m waiting for streaming on this one. Their not getting my money.

Evidently it didn't work out. Two weeks ago they said they were still having difficulty. Wednesday is "her" show, and now she has even more responsibility. She's second fiddle in Scream. I don't think she dropped out because of IG comments.

edit: or solely because of IG comments

Same, I wish Matthew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich could come back too but that would probably be unrealistic.

Bringing back Stu or Billy as living characters would be the absolute dumbest thing in the history of the franchise. Neither one of them had anything resembling an ambiguous ending. They're super duper dead.

They could introduce Stu's secret daughter, and then the ghost of Stu can talk with the ghost of Billy.

Billy isn't a ghost, he's a delusion from Sam's mental illness. Without Melissa there's no reason to bring back Skeet at all.
Of course there is. When they discover Stu's love child he can bring Billy along with him.

Yeah, I know he wasn't ghost, still acted like one and was about as dumb as one. It was just a fan service ploy and his ghost had no real importance to the character. In fact, not seeing the ghost could have been better for the character. I just really hated that movie. I mean, seriously, how many people living in a little apartment in NYC just happens to keep a 20ft ladder in their apartment? Seriously.

Haters the Casper Billy stuff agree there.
Looks like they do intend to move forward with legacy characters. No word on whether the Meeks twins will return but the Carpenter sisters are for sure gone. The writers of 5 and 6 are going to write a brand new script.

Negotiations haven't started yet but here are the legacy characters still alive:
Sidney Prescott (1-5)
Gale Weathers (1-6)
Kirby Reed (4, 6)
Chad Meeks-Martin (5-6)
Mindy Meeks-Martin (5-6)
Danny Brackett (6) [Samantha's boyfriend; they'll probably leave him out without Samantha]
Mark Kincaid (3) [the detective; mentioned as Sidney's husband in 5 and 6 but not seen]
Detective Wallace (3) [Kincaid's partner; very minor character but he's the only other named character who survives 3]
Martha Meeks (3, 5) [Randy's sister/the twins' mother]
Neil Prescott (1, 3) [Sidney's father; they mentioned he was dead in a Scream 4 deleted scene but they could ignore that if they wanted]
Hank Loomis (1, 3) [Billy's father; they'll probably continue ignoring this character given the absence of Samantha]

I enjoyed Kirby’s return last time and would be up for a bigger part for her. I’m not in favour of a Sidney return. She’s been in 5 Scream films and they’ve done all they can with the character at this point. I like the idea of letting her leave to live a happy life with her family. Maybe do something with her or her kids in the future. Same with Gale, I don’t see what more they can do with her.
