Should she have been in the credits?

So, I know there's a similar thread already, but this is a bit different.

Amber Benson appears in the opening credits twice... Once More With Feeling and Seeing Red. So I'm wondering who thinks that was a good move by Joss not having her in them until then or if you think she should've been in the credits for longer.

I think that she should've been in the credits from the beginning of Season Five until Seeing Red. She DID appear in almost every episode and I, at least, consider her a Scooby. I am glad that she got credit in Once More With Feeling, though.

Does it really matter? I mean, we are all well aware that characters with less screen time made it into the credits, but we also know that the entire fan base, also back then, considered Tara as a main character.
And it's not really like JW just wanted to expres how Tara isn't part of the team, it was about money issues I think, and crowdedness in the opening.
Although I do think when Riley left would've been a good opportunity to open a space for Tara in the opening credits...

I always thought she should have. Tara's character deserved a place. I'm sure they could have made room somehow.

I thought it was because he wanted to kill off a character when they appeared in the credits & therefore shock the viewers/rub it in more?

The problem was that they kept postponing her death because none of them wanted her to leave. =P

I read the first thing somewhere, too.
It does seem a bit strange that, if she was a regular character, she should have been acknowledged as such from the beginning, the same way that James Marsters was throughout the entire 5th season of "Angel."

I'm sure I remember somewhere reading that Joss wanted Tara in the credits, but due to issues with the network they wouldn't allow any more people to be credited since they then got paid a set sum of money per episode regardless of whether they were in it, or how much screen time they had. It was when I was writing a textual analysis of Buffy and I remember skimming over some issues about it I think. Either way, like previously said, the fans know she was a main character and I guess that is what matters in the end.

In all fairness, that was different. Spike was already an established character since Buffy s4, and since that show had ended it was pretty clear he was there to stay. Plus, I think it might've been part of his contract...just like Cordy and Angel stayed regulars when starting AtS. In my continuum, and I'm sure in JW's as well, the shows go together, and just because one character permanently crosses to the other show doesn't mean he/she has to start from zero again.
On a slightly different note...on Angel, most characters came into the credits fairly fast anyway...just look at Wesley, Gunn, Fred and Connor!

Well, Wes sort of crossed over from Buffy too so he had about a half a year under his belt before becoming a regular. And Angel's cast started off so much smaller that it kind of made sense to fill it out a bit more. But Lorne kind of got the same deal as Tara for awhile there. He was in a lot of season 2, the vast majority of season three and only toward the end of season four did Andy finally make the credits.

Oh no. We's 'bout to fight. Tara is WAY cooler than Oz.

I totally agree about Andy Hallett deserving to be in the credits a lot sooner than he got in
But Wesley on Buffy is pretty much an ENTIRELY different character than Wes on Angel.

And I definitely think Amber should have been in the credits.

being put in the credits entitles you with a higher pay... dont quote me on that, but im nearly positive

and maybe amber didnt want to commit, but she ended up being in every episode

I actually remember reading somewhere that Amber Benson asked not to be in the credits.

I'm quoting this from another forum and thread. Please contact me if you want to see it.

Now on this point in regards to Tara I will defend Joss to a point. The decision not to include Amber in the credits was not Joss' but AMber's. As a full cast member she would have to have been at work the whole time, whether she was actually needed in a scene straight away or not. But as a guest star she was only needed on thos days she was genuinely filming which allowed her to concentrate on her other projects.

Thankies, I didnt blame either Joss or Amber, and at the time was annoyed by it, but I couldn't care now, as it's been said, we know she was a central-ish character, and most fans love her I think.

Maybe she didn't get paid as much, but was free to do her own thing...

YES she should have been in the credits, 3 seasons she was in it. Its bs. Same With Lorne. Was it s4 or 5 before he was credited? And that muppet Connor was in the credits before Lorne! I assume seeing as Amber and Andy(i assume again) are shy and quiet, Joss took advantage and never main credited them, as they weren't gonna demand more money as they rightfully could have.

I don't blame Joss for them not being in the Titles at all, I'm sure he tried with the networks to get them up there in the Titles.

I wondered why in season 7 Btvs Aly was made into the 'And'. You know what I mean right, the part of the Titles that Tony used to occupy.

And in season 6! Never got it, either.
Nu uh. I don't blame Joss at all. Didn't he say that it was because the networks would not let him because it would have made the intro to long?
Yes, I wondered why Aly was too. I read somewhere that when you add the "and" it means that the actor is getting paid less or something like that. I really hope where I read it was bogus though, cause Aly is great.

I really hope so too, I'm sure-ish that i saw it happen to Holly on Charmed, she got made the 'And'

anyone know the why the 'And' exists, and what is its significance... ??
