Should they have kept Cordelia?

On one hand, I wish that Charisma Carpenter had stayed for Season 5. She made a strong leading lady. On the other hand, I really can't see Cordelia willing to be a part of W&H.
 
No, as much as I loved Cordelia in the first couple seasons of Angel, I was ready to see her go by the end of season four and not just because of the Jasmine arc. I didn't like the direction they went with the character in mid season three. It was like they threw everything that made her an interesting character out the window so they could do a (let's face it, it's a Joss show) completely doomed romantic storyline with Angel.

As I was watching S5 I kept thinking what they couldn't really be getting rid of Cordelia.....it just wasn't the same without her. Angel wasn't the same with out her. The storyline just seemed so unbelievable. Obviously, she got pregnant and that was why she wasn't on the show. I definately didn't see her agreeing to go to Wolfrom and Heart but I think she would have done it if that was what Angel really wanted. If they had had a dialogue between her and Angel as far as why he wanted to go to W&H maybe I wouldn't have been so upset when they just all showed up to meet the limo....ok. So they would have all just left each other behind so they could work for the big bad? Where was Cordy to put her two cents in? Oh yeah, she was just....gone in some coma somewhere.
 
I definitely thought Cordy should have been in season 5 of Angel, I could see a lot of potential on where they could have taken her character. After her being posessed by Jasmine and knowing her body was used to murder would have made it interesting to see her come to terms with it all. It would have added so many more levels to her, also seeing her run her own department would have been awesome.

As much as I love Spike being on Angel I just wished they had left him dead at the end of Buffy, it would have made his death more meaningful. To me him being there was once again to fill the void of Cordy like they did to him on Buffy in season 4.But Cordy should have been in season 5 even if it was as a recurring role, there was so many paths left they could have taken he too.

But her final show was soo cool!
She should have been in them but the plots of the finals series i dont exactly no how she could have fitted in?
 
Cordy should have been on the outside, with spike, doing the right thing. That would have been an interesting dynamic, with angel slowly getting more and more jealous of spike, while cordy, acting on a vision would know angel needed to be at WR&H until such time she could reveal what angel needed to know.

It would also kept them apart for the season, a sacrifice cordy made, but angel did not know.
 
To some degree I think they should have kept Cordelia. But at the same time,When they did the whole Cordelia becomes pregnant with Connors baby thing. I thought that was really pathetic. Granted, What happens afterwards with Jasmine was really cool. So I guess in a way the baby thing wasnt a total loss. But still, I think Cordelia was alot more useful in the earlier seasons of Angel. When she actually had something to contribute other than memory loss and a demon child.
 
I love CORDELIA! I think she was gonna be the BIG BAD for Season Four until she got pregnant! We can't hate on Cordy for what happened to her, even before Jasmine, she was gonna turn bad from what I have read. Probably because she became part demon. When she got preggers they had to change the story and rearrange it a bit.

I totally missed her in Season Five. It just didn't feel complete. I agree Spike's death would have meant more if he had died in the Sunny dale fiasco!

I have to say though YOUR WELCOME was done beautifully. I have read that Charisma wasn't gonna come back and play her and let Joss kill her off until he she read the script! It was just so much sadness at once at the end! I know they thought they would probably get a Six Season and we would see more Fred shining through. I wanted to kill myself by the time it was over! LORD!

I read that David and Charisma had an extremely hard time getting through those scenes and they were in fact, real tears in the takes! Beautiful ending to a extraordinary character!!
 
I think Cordelia should not have been killed off... I truly don't see the logic, what purpose it serves, I guess Joss wanting to go out with a bang again? What Spike's death wasn't enough for him?? And Fred??

lol. Seriously though, she was essential in my opinion and she shouldn't have been booted. I really don't like the show after the whole higher being and Cordy cradle robbing and all that... It just wasn't the same.
 
Cordelia was the heart. Notice how they all just fell apart when she was possessed by Jasmine and not as lovey dovey as usual? Same for season 5. I just can't imagine the dark tone of that season being pulled off as successfully with her there as much as I love the character and was outraged they killed her off, I think the writers knew that a move to Wolfram and Hart would've been impossible with her alive.
 
I was so so soooo happy Cordy wasn't in s5. While watching s5 i didn't even notice she was missing, when she comes back for you're welcome i thought 'omg, i forgot she existed' but she is the only main character i didn't like really.

I thought the same thing. They could have pulled off YW just fine if Cordelia had stayed in the higher plane during season 4.

They were gonna make Cordelia evil regardless. But she was gonna be the big bad and there would have been a big fight scene with her and Angel. At least, that's what I heard.

I can't see Cordelia being a part of W&H either. It wouldn't have worked.

I like Spike too but they should have left him dead. His return really cheapened everything. And he wasn't even important on Angel so why bring him back?

That would have been awesome. Cordelia and Spike were great together. It's sad they only have like three scenes together on both series.
 
As much as I love Cordy I really couldn't see her the same way I used to after everything with Jasmine. It was nice too bring her back for that one episode. I would have loved to see her fight though as she had become such a differnt and brave person.
 
Willow & Angel both recovered from similar experiences and in those cases a part of them was doing the evil, in Cordelia's case, her body was 100% hijacked.
 
She was always my favorite Angel character, and seeing her dead just broke my heart. Especially having Fred die almost RIGHT after Cordelia's death...they should have just kept Cordy.

There's only one point I'm a little worried about...Angel going 'bad', ergo being 'corrupted' by the firm (which he did to get into the Order of the Thorn). I don't know if they could've pulled that off so easily with Cordy around. Especially with Cangel.

I agree. I don't think Cordy would have allowed it. She would have reminded him what his real mission was. She would have pointed out the glaring contridiction in taking over W&H. I think that in order to allow that storyline to happen with Angel - him allowing himself to become corrupted - Cordy had to be out of the picture. Unfortunately.

Now, if the story had gone a totally different way? Yes, she should have been there.

I agree with Purple Poof as well. Her and Harmony are the longest running Buffyverse characters. They should have been given "better" endings. What Skip said totally ruined for me the whole thing with her being elevated to a higher being, and Harmony was just thrown aside, played out to "betray" Angel. How lame.
 
I think Cordy could have worked perfectly in S5 of Angel especially if they'd brung her back like let's say three episodes after the season began. That way the crew would have already been at WR and H, and they could have explained to Cordy the Connor situation and instead of what happened in "You're Welcome" have Cordy slowly but surely except things. Make amends with her friends, and Connor before eventually recieving her visions back which would have set up for the ending we got in "Not Fade Away".

I was also wondering if Cordy had been there for "Not Fade Away" what mission would Angel have sent her on ,(the one Spike recieved perhaps) because by this time Cordy seemed to retain her fighting abilities and probably she'd had her demonic powers.
 
I think it was best the way they ended it.
Don't get me wrong, I liked Cordy but after all the things that happened in season 4 I just felt that was it for her.
I really loved that they gave her one last fair well episode but I think it was good to leave it at that.

Cordy's end wasn't organic. Joss worked it out well and honestly I didn't even think about Cordy being gone until she returned, but it's not like Cordy was written out because she was no longer needed.

Charisma said that she requested 10 weeks off during S5 so she could raise her child (Maternity Leave), but Joss didn't want to pay her for the season if she was gone 1/3+ of the time.
