Should they have kept Cordelia?

I think I nicked this idea off someone else; but it would have been interesting if Angel etc had gone to W&H (Angel making the exec. decision because of connor); cordy wakes up a few episodes in, refuses to get involves & spike then goes on her side doing the old Angel Investigations stint while the others muck up W&H.

I haven't exactly thought the specifics through, but yeah.

Yeah, that would have been excellent, though I'd guess that they couldn't afford both James & Charisma. It would also make sense since as Wesley pointed out, Cordy doesn't really have a choice, she can't walk away fro TPTB, because the visions will continue regardless, and she'll feel compelled to rescue those people.
 
I honestly don't understand why she needed 10 weeks off however, I am not a parent so I guess I can't understand. Holly Marie Combs had her son on April 26 2004 at the end of Season Six of Charmed and then went back to work in June/July for Season Seven. She just took her son with her! And Charisma's son was born on March 23 2003, which gave her a month longer than Holly to spend time with her child. Usually most shows start shooting again in June/July and I would say Angel was no exception! Oh well...Where did she speak about asking for time off?

It's an interview on YouTube. I don't think she wanted a block of 10 weeks off, just ten weeks off over the course of the season.
 
I've nearly finished watching all 5 seasons of Angel over the last few weeks and am amazed that my favourite character was dumped.

I wasn't too happy with the sleeping with Connor and going evil bit either.

That said, even without Cordelia, the standard in Season 5 is an improvement on Season 4. At least we saw Cordy in "You're Welcome", even if it did bring a tear to my eye. I just think Cordy was the soul of Angel Investigations since Day One and Season 5 could have been really special.

So, I've the final 3 episodes of Season 5 left to watch...and then I start Buffy (which I've never seen all of).
 
I love season five but the lack of Charisma/Cordelia will always be a big regret for me.

Would she have had a role to play at W&H? Probably not. I can see her agreeing initially, if only to keep her eye on what was happening, but she would have been the first one of the team to choose to walk away. I can actually see her deciding to go with Spike and helping him with his mission, although obviously that would have involved Lindsay going with a different tactic to using the Doyle identity. That would have led to a really interesting parallel with the whole Buffy/Angel/Spike triangle, this time with Cordy in the middle and in an ethical choice position rather than a romantic one.

Would have been interesting, either way.

I'm glad she wasn't in it her charcter would've had to have changed to keep her fresh with W+H much like Gunn and Fred changed.

What could she have done?
 
Yes! I definitely think Cordy should have been a regular in season 5 and should have never been killed off. (Although, I have no Idea how she would have fit in at W&H.) She's been around since "Welcome to the Hellmouth" for god's sake. Killing Cordy off is like killing off one the original 4 Scoobies or Angel.


I also had no problem and enjoyed Spike being a regular in season 5 of Angel. I would like to see more Spike/Cordelia interaction. I hate the fact that Spike and Cordy only have 2 scenes together in the entire Buffyverse despite both of them being major characters on both shows.

I agree with this. That scene in You're Welcome with Angel, Cordelia and Spike was magical. it made me think "if only..." They would have made an awesome trio.

Cordy was great in seasons one and two, but by the time season five came around i was glad to see the back of her. Her character from s3 had went downhill big time. Coincidently, i heard s3 was when Joss stopped focusing on Angel as much!
 
I never considered keeping her around for the final 10 episodes of the season, but really that would have made a lot more sense than having her there for just an episode. As much as I loved her in season 1 and 2, and even taking into account that it was probably just a writers thing in season 4, I hated her in season 4. I mean... agh. I didn't like that her and Angel fell for each other; it just felt too easy and in no way right for those characters.

Anyway, yes, I wish they would have kept her.
 
I just finished watching all the Angel seasons. And I must say I really did fall in love with Cordelia's character throughout the show. So needless to say I was very upset with how the 4th season ended and having to watch all of season 5 without her. Then when they had her back for the one episode to officially kill her off I was so devastated! There was so much more to be done with her character. I felt like they built her into this amazing essential character in the show, and then just abruptly ended it all for her. Then when they killed her off, there was no morning, no nothing, it was like nothing happened! But the second Fred was dieing it was this major deal with all the other characters. There was more invested with Cordelia, yet her death was nothing next to Fred's. I have just been waiting to express my feelings on this topic and to find others who felt the same way because my fiance, who I watched all the seasons with, didn't seem to care like I did. I on the other hand was very upset and at a loss as to why she was so suddenly cut out of the show and have been looking for answers.

Yes! Cordelia was part of the Buffyverse from day one, yet her death was treated like a dusted vampire!

Agreed. I do not understand why there was hardly any recognition of her death by the other characters, especially Angel and Wesley! A scene with all of them by her grave- away from Wolfram and Hart- would have shown that the characters respected and loved Cordy.

I agree, I think Cordelia should have been in season 5 of Angel and that Charisma should have taken her son with her on the set if she wanted to be with him even if I'm not a parent. Also, even if they managed a season without Cordelia it still wasn't the same without her.
 
I'm pretty sure it was Joss- and not Charisma- who decided that Cordelia be discontinued for season five.

There's another thread (can't remember the name of it), where someone posted a link to a Comic Con with Charisma Carpenter. She actually talks quite openly about what happened, saying that she was not going on maternity leave; it was Joss who decided Cordelia's fate.

I do wish that Cordelia would have made it to the end. Fred, the only other female, was killed off, as was Wesley, the longest running character beside Cordelia. Very upsetting. :cry3:

The simple answer to this is yes. In fact I think they should have finished in the same way that it all began with just Angel, Cordy and Wes standing shoulder to shoulder. If they had to kill off some characters then Gunn, Fred and Lorne should have gone first (in that order).

But don't mind me. I am still bitter from the way they treated my favourite characters. It makes it almost impossible to re-watch any of the seasons knowing that ultimately it had all been for nothing.
 
My least favorite thing about Angel is what they did to Cordelia's character. It was unforgivable 🙁 I hate season 4 and I hate that she wasn't in season 5 as her old self (though I do like how they took her out, at least, that she got to come back and help save the day).
 
actually after season 4 I was kind of sick of her and glad to see her go. I had started growing weary of her at the second half of s3.
I think it's a shame cause it was really what they did to the character and not the character in herself, but it was done and once she was gone I didn't miss her because of it.
